Good morning!
I hope all of you had a great Halloween! I’m willing to wager that your Halloween was better than Sadie’s Halloween.
She spent the holiday stressed out by all of the kids in costumes and the never-ending ring of the doorbell.
Once the trick-or-treaters seemed to be done for the night, Sadie calmed down and tried to coerce my sister into playing with her by crawling on top of her laptop as she was trying to work.
(Clearly vizslas are nicknamed velcro dogs for a reason.)
Leslie spent the night with us because she has a work event to attend close by today and Sadie was all too happy to have another cuddle buddy in the house.
We passed out candy together and saw some really cute costumes and some pretty freaky ones, too. One teenage girl came dressed as a witch and carried a live snake with her. Hardcore.
As the trick-or-treaters came by, Leslie, Ryan and I started talking about our past Halloween costumes. I surprisingly could not remember that many of mine! I know I’ve been the Energizer Bunny (still my all-time favorite costume!), Dorothy, Cinderella, a ‘50s girl, a firewoman, a bunny and a pirate, but that’s all I can recall!
Workout
This morning we were off to the gym early again. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical before breaking out the Nike Training Club app and completing a Get Focused advanced arm definer workout. It was another winner!
Breakfast
Once we made it home from the gym, we said goodbye to my sister before it was time to walk Sadie and eat breakfast.
Today’s morning meal featured a bowl of overnight oats that I prepped last night.
Served with a hot mug of coffee!
And now I’m off to blow dry my hair before heading into work.
Happy Friday!
Question of the Morning
- What is the best costume you’ve ever worn on Halloween?
- What was the best Halloween costume you saw this year?
I saw a couple dressed up as Miley Cyrus and a wrecking ball and thought that was pretty darn funny!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
Zoey sported her pumpkin shirt, too! 🙂 Best costume I ever wore was a pumpkin costume… only because my husband dressed up as Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater… lol
Lindsey says
We saw a Dad and his kid dressed as Mario and Luigi go karting down the street!
My favourite costume of mine was probably when I dressed up as a 20’s Flapper or a cop from the show Reno 911.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
Love the Mario/Luigi idea! 🙂
Laura says
My lab tried to tackle every trick-or-treater at the door. He did not understand they were not there to play with him. He’s a chocolate and hyper is putting it nicely!
Jenny says
I think my best one was this year actually! My office went with a Gilligan’s Island theme and I was Ginger. HA!!
Tessa says
I downloaded the Nike App this week, and I have already done 2 workous with it! I love that you can tailor your workout to what you want to focus on and it takes care of everything for you. Almost like a personal trainer app! Thank you so much for the tip.
Jackie says
My best was princess peach and my boyfriend was Mario!
Kelly @ Femme Fitale says
My favourite was being Body Break’s Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod with my husband…any Canadian will know who these 90s tv fitness icons are! I’m all about comfortable and funny costumes.
Yesterday I saw a little guy in a hooded sweater. He was riding a bike with a little pug dog in the bicycle basket wrapped in a white sheet, only showing its face. ET and Elliot! So cute!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
Yes! Hal & Joanne make great costumes! 🙂
tam says
Hi,
Is there any way of getting the workouts from the nike training app online? I don’t have an Iphone or smart phone so can’t download them. Thanks Tamsin x
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
We had zero trick or treaters due to the HORRIBLE weather we had but really I only remember being two things as a little girl: a mermaid and little red riding hood. It was always so cold so my mom would make me wear a sweater underneath and it used to make me SO mad! haha
Dana says
Aw, poor Sadie! My pup was the same way! She was super freaked out by all of the Halloween chaos! She looked adorable though!
Melissa says
The best costumes I’ve ever worn on Halloween is: Britney Spears (from her Baby One More Time video) and Avril Lavigne!
Vanessa V says
Poor Sadie! My pup hates the doorbell too so I put a chair outside at the bottom of the stairs with candy in a basket. It was raining so we even rigged an umbrella over the basket! That helped a lot. I didn’t get to see all of the cute costumes on the trick or treaters but it made my dog happy haha!
My best costume was when i was 6 (i think) and I was Pebbles Flinstone. I had a faux fur dress and a (toy) bone in my hair! I loved it.
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
That pic of Sadie and your sister is hilarious!
You know what, I can really remember what I was for Halloween most years. I remember being Witchiepoo from some show and a DIY vampire and witch but I wouldn’t say they were my favorite. I think I might’ve dressed as Madonna one year aaaaaand I just dated myself with all of those reference. Awesome.
We never get trick or treaters so I didn’t get to see any kids but saw some great dog costumes last weekend. My favorite was a huge plush dragonfly and a shark.
Audra says
I loved the Little House on the Prairie books, so my favorite costume as a kid was Laura Ingalls Wilder (and my favorite doll got a matching pioneer outfit to go with it)
QueenofFitness says
OMG!!! i was laura ingalls wilder too for halloween. in 4th grade.
Laura @losingrace says
My parents have a viszla and he is nuts- I can’t imagine how insane he would be going if people were constantly coming to the door ( they live in middle of nowhere so thankfully they don’t get trick or treaters). That is the first time I have heard they are nick named velcro dogs- but it totally makes sense!!!
I saw a lot of super cute costumes last night when we took my nephew trick or treating. Hard to say what my favorite was!
Jess says
The best costume I’ve wear was last year when I and 3 more friends dressed-up as seasons. I was fall and I loved the dress because, although it was a costume, it was very chick and comfortable and simple. Funny costumes I have seen: a group of people dressed as Teletubbies, a guy as a Chanel purse, and another guy dressed as a woman lifesaver with huge boobs and a little hair down there (it was funny!). Also, lots of guys with high heels sitting on the floor because they can’t stand it anymore, it reminded me: women’s power!!
anne says
My dog Jasper sympathises with Sadie. I was going to get him a Cerberus costume, but I forgot. Never mind, he was doing a pretty good Cerberus impression on his own, scaring little trick-or-treaters 😀 I had to scratch him and play soothing music in between door rings, he was so unsettled. Poor guys!
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
Poor Sadie! My dog gets stressed out like that about fireworks, and, unfortunately, the local football team as been shooting them off at every home game!
A few years ago, I dressed up as a gypsy, and that was one of my favorite costumes. I’m usually not that creative!
I would’ve slammed the door in the little witch’s face. I am deathly afraid of snakes, and I couldn’t handle that!
Stacey says
Last year I was the inmate and my boyfriend was the cop. It was pretty nice getting to run around in an orange jumpsuit all night. This year my friend dressed her 7month old as a strawberry which was adorable.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I went to a party last night in Wicker Park, which is kind of the “hipster” neighborhood of Chicago. The costumes were SO impressive! Very few “slutty ___”, most everyone was really creative and went all out! One girl was a jelly fish, and she carried a clear umbrella over her that had lights all over it, iridescent tissue paper (plastic?) and things dangling down from around the edges. Very cool!
peanutbutterfingers says
That’s awesome!
Laurel says
Did the Nike app this morning…died. Thank you for sharing that…I feel like I have a personal trainer on my phone…for free!
peanutbutterfingers says
That’s exactly how I feel every time!! So glad you liked it, too!
Michelle @ A Healthy Mrs says
I was just going to comment saying the same thing! I used the NTC yesterday for the first time, and I can totally feel it today! Hurts so good 🙂
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
When I was at dinner yesterday in the dining hall, there was a group of people dressed as Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. It was perfect!! Haha, poor Sadie!
Ashley says
My favorite Halloween costume as a kiddo was a pumpkin I think — I was pretty tiny but I remember loving it. As an adult, I LOVED Zach and I’s first Halloween when we went dressed as Bill and Sookie from True Blood! 🙂
Alisha says
I can’t wait we just found it we are coming to Venice FL for thanksgiving! Is there a body pump class close by, or will you be teaching that week?!
Ashley @ BrocBlog says
I take pride in being hilariously lame with my costumes. Witch, ghost, pumpkin, etc.
Katie says
Best Halloween costume I saw this year…My 7 month old guy in his scarecrow costume 🙂 I must say… If a kid with a live snake came to my front door I’m not sure what I would do. I’m assuming a heart attack would occur!!!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Haha. That is funny that Sadie went cray with all the costumes & door bell ringing 😉
Kimberly says
I was realizing last night that all my costumes have been pretty generic (Gypsy, Native American, Cowgirl, Angel etc.). I’m just not that creative when it comes to Halloween! I have friends who always come up with the best couple costumes! This year they were a mermaid and a fisherman, last year they were Calvin and Hobbes (so cute!).
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
My coworker dressed as a night stand and labeled herself “one night stand”. It was hysterical.
Jessica says
My mom went all out to make me an Elvis costume. Homemade costumes were always the best.
Lindsay says
Sadly, not a single trick-or-treater came by our house last night (it was pouring rain all day and night here in Wisconsin) .. BUT, I did get ENGAGED last night, so I’d say it was THE BEST HALLOWEEN EVER!
As a friend of mine so aptly put it after she found out: “Happy Halloween! This trick got a treat” 😉
Kellie @ keeprunninkellie says
Julie, it’s so funny that you said your favorite past costume was the Energizer bunny because that’s what I was this Halloween! You can see what my version looked like here:
http://keeprunninkellie.com/2013/10/28/how-not-to-be-crafty-halloween-festivities-and-a-nice-recovery/
I had to make my own drum because I couldn’t find one anywhere! Anyway, just thought I’d point that out 🙂
DW says
So a way to help with the canine stress is: sit outside and hand out candy. We do this and leave our dogs inside the house. That way, they aren’t freaked out by the doorbell ringing and we don’t have to constantly open the door for kids and hold the dogs back.
We usually sit out front with a fire pit and beer have a great time.
Holly says
I found a crazy picture of my dad in his ’80s getup (zoobaz and all) and then found in storage the actual outfit he was wearing in the photo. I put it on for a Halloween costume and carried the photo with me all night.
Holly says
*Zubaz. Clearly, I’m not an ’80s child.
Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine says
Too funny! Poor Sadie. Always alert. 🙂
Chelsea @ BigBitesLittleBudget says
Haha watching dogs on Halloween cracks me up! My puppy goes crazy with that many people around and doesn’t settle down until the end of the night. It makes for an entertaining show!
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I love my adult Halloween costumes better than my kid costumes! A few years ago, I was a peacock and I made almost my whole costume and I loved it!
Danielle @ Green is the New Black says
Poor dog! Mine has a hard time as well! One of my co-workers dressed as the “food police” which was pretty cute! She was dressed as a police officer, buy had a banana instead of a gun!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Teenage mutan hero turtle…homemade when I was about 6! Loved it! Best one was a guy from work as a pirate but it a really expensive get up, make up and all. Looked like belonged in a movie!
erica says
my favorite costume I wore was o-ren ishii from kill bill.
I honestly didn’t see very many costumes this year, but my friend dressed up as a “wrecking ball” and her super buff bf dressed up as miley cyrus. it was the BEST.
for kid’s costumes my friend’s twin daughters were pandas and their cousin dressed up as a zookeeper. it was the cutest ever.
Becky says
I actually used the 7 minute workout app this morning that you talked about a few days ago! Thanks for sharing that! My favorite costume that I have ever worn was a ladybug a couple of years ago!
Jamie says
I did a handmade (sorta) cruella deville a couple years ago that was my fave. I think the most clever i saw this year was a guy with several grey paint swatches attached to a suit..50 shades of Grey. Hilarious.
Livi says
I saw Flo the Progressive Lady last night- hilarious!
QueenofFitness says
my best halloween costume was RAINBOW BRITE! does anyone remember her from the early 80’s? my mom, who is a sewer, made the whole costume: the dress, the boots, and the wig. my grandfather died in august and my family has been cleaning the house to get it ready for sale and found a polaroid of me in the costume this week. i was also a kabuki dancer in 3rd grade. we put chopsticks through my bun, and made an obi for my waist. i wore a flowered polyester robe and some flip flops. i was laura ingalls wilder in 3rd grade. in 2nd grade i may have been punky brewster but i can’t remember.
Nicole says
I was a “ceiling fan” last night (only for $3 burritos at Chipotle) – my shirt said “Go Ceilings!” and I had pom-poms. It was super easy. My husband was “Johnny Football”
My BIL and his GF were Tom Hanks in Castaway and Wilson the volleyball. It was cute. We also saw a couple dressed as a baby and child molester. Really bizarre.
Missy says
That’s more Halloween costumes that I can recall! We were trying to remember them the other night but I could only remember a scarecrow, a witch, and a pumpkin! Bummer!
Alison @ Daily Moves and Grooves says
Sadie is so funny and adorable! Also, if someone came trick-or-treating with a live snake, I would be fuh-reaked out.
My favorite Halloween costume I’ve ever worn was actually this year’s! I was a kangaroo! It was basically a onesie with a pouch, tail, and ears, so I was super comfy all day. I remember I was a flamingo one year and a toucan another. All my animal costumes are my favorites, haha!
sarah @makingitmyhome.blogspot.com says
carrying a live snake-that is hard core! impressive
Cathryn says
Totally off topic but I read Divergent in 2 days!!! I had to get Insurgent immediately after! My husband thinks I’m nuts…
peanutbutterfingers says
It’s a great book!!!
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
In Australia we don’t really celebrate Halloween so I’ve only really dressed up once for Halloween as a Zombie Cheerleader and my boyfriend went as a Zombie Football player 🙂
Poor Sadie! She does look darn cute in her halloween outfit though.
