After yesterday’s workout to some fantastic Michael Jackson songs, I remembered just how much music can invigorate a workout. It was high time for me to update my iPod with some new motivational music.
Since many of you weighed in with song suggestions on the PBF Facebook page and Twitter, I thought you might be interested in my latest playlist to get some ideas for a workout playlist of your own.
As always, this playlist has a lot of throwback ‘90s music (my fav!).
Enjoy!

Workout
You better believe my new playlist gave me renewed energy as I tackled this morning’s workout. I began my workout with 20 minutes on the elliptical before hopping off to conquer a total-body weights workout that looked like this:
Exercise | Weights | Reps | Sets |
Leg press | 130 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Incline bicep curls | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Side shoulder raises | 10 lbs. | 20 | 3 |
Tricep dips | Bodyweight | 15 | 3 |
Deadlifts | 25 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Leg extensions | 40 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Chest press | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Bicep rows | 15 lbs. | 15 | 3 |
Hamstring ball curls | Bodyweight | 20 | 3 |
Various crunches | Bodyweight | 30 | 3 |
I was actually pretty proud of myself for doing a chest exercise on my own. I typically skip chest and back exercises when I do my own strength training (thank goodness BodyPump doesn’t neglect them!), but since I know I will likely be joining a gym in Ocala that doesn’t have BodyPump, I’m trying to incorporate those moves back into my own routine.
Breakfast
After my workout and Sadie’s morning walk, breakfast time arrived!
My morning meal included two toasted waffles, muenster cheese and veggie bacon.
I ended up eating it like a waffle sandwich and it was crunchy, cheesy, salty and delicious.
A solid amount of peanut butter fingers were also enjoyed as the waffles toasted because I am apparently too impatient to wait the 90 seconds it takes to toast a waffle to eat something.
Gotta get to work!
Today is Ryan’s last day of work at his current company and he will likely be home in the early afternoon. We’re hoping to see a late afternoon/early evening showing of the latest Harry Potter movie, so I’m hoping I can fly through some of the more mundane things on my to-do list today knowing that there’s such a fun activity awaiting me later today!
Meg says
I want that playlist in my ears RIGHT now. Hah. Oh and Ryan’s face in that picture is totally priceless, hahaha made my morning brighter 😉

Stephanie says
I LOVE the “Let’s Get Married” remix! Reminds me of when I was younger…*sigh*…good times! 🙂
krista says
Girl you can lift so much more than that for chest press and deadlifts! Lifting heavy is good. Didn’t you learn that too on O2? 😉
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
of course. 🙂 it’s actually my wrists that prevent me from doing more than that on deadlifts. my legs are fine, but my wrists feel weak. and 15 lbs. actually felt right for chest press for me.
krista says
Oh I thought those were total weight, not DB weights! My bad (bringing back an early 2000’s saying right there!!)
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
ooooh haha – yes, dumbbell weights. total weight for deadlifts = 50 lbs. chest press = 30 lbs.
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I hope Ryan has a great last day of work!
The picture of you two dancing is hilarious.
Lisa @ Mrs. Fish says
Awesome playlist! Love waffle sandwiches! 🙂
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
Ahh, I can’t WAIT to see the new HP! I don’t know if I will brave the crowds tonight though… we will see.
I also had a waffle sandwich this morning, only with peanut butter and banana. It was a yumfest, fo’ sho’.
I am totally downloading a few of those songs to invigorate my iPod…I need some new running motivation.
Cait's Plate says
Oh man – you have some great ones on that (TLC “No Scrubs” is a CLASSIC! Also obsessed with Glee’s “Teenage Dream”).
That waffle sandwich looks awesome – I used to make them a lot and haven’t in a long while – thanks for the reminder 🙂
Love that picture of you and Ryan dancing at your wedding. His face is perfect.
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
fact: ryan LOVES the glee version of “teenage dream.”
fact 2.0: he would probably kill me for sharing that.
Cait's Plate says
Hahahah – tell him not to kill you. That just made me like him 1000x better 🙂
Hilliary Wolfe @ Happily Ever Healthy says

Lizzy says
Hi Julie,
That wafflewich looks soo good I am convinced cheese makes everything taste better. I too always have tons of peanut butter fingers in the morning haha and I tend to beat myself up about it I was wondering if you had any advice?
Thanks!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
oh i feel ya! i’ve definitely ate enough pb fingers to qualify as a meal many times. this has actually been a struggle for me b/c i’ll just keep going! i’ve found that concentrating on the fact that i’m eating pb finger after pb finger really helps. and sometimes i’ll set a limit – like “have three AMAZING pb fingers, and then move on.” it’s hard, but having an ending in mind before you uncap the jar helps… sometimes. 😉
Lizzy says
Thanks Julie that’s great advice I will remember that next time!!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Hey Julie! Quick question for ya (and I’m sure you’ve covered this before, but I have no idea where). Do you take a rest day each week from working out? Or do you typically work out 7 days a week? Just curious. I usually take 1 rest day, because I don’t want to overdo it… but I am wondering if it’s ok to still do some ‘light’ cardio. I know you aren’t a ‘fitness expert’ or anything. Just curious your perspective! 😉
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
oh i definitely take a rest day… or two! (under my work it out page, you can see my daily workout log, just in case you’re curious – last week i took three rest days!). and you’re right, i’m not a fitness expert, but i will often make my rest days “active rest” days and still take sadie on a long walk or something b/c i like to move!
Lindsey says
I need to make a new playlist! I just can never remember song names! Maybe this is my weekend project 🙂
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
If you like Country, there are some really great new ones out right now like “You Lie” and “Honeybee”. Not exactly fast songs, but still a lot of fun!
Enjoy HP7.2!!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
i loooove country. 🙂 thanks for the suggestions!
Anne @strawberryjampackedlife says
Well in that case, also try Ashton Shepherd’s “Look it up”. It makes me laugh.
We’re going to see Brad Paisley (along with Jerrod Neiman, Blake Shelton, and Thomspon Square) tomorrow night. SO EXCITED! This’ll be my second time seeing Brad and he’s AWESOME!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
oooh he’s a dreamboat! 😀
Lizzy @ runbakerace says
Can’t wait to see Harry Potter! So jealous you might go today. Love the new playlist. In my spin class this morning the instruct played some good ole 90’s tunes. I missed Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik, such a good song.
Sarah says
PYT gets me everytime! It will now be stuck in my head all day, thank you very much!

I LOVE that Pitbull song! You’re so right it’s the song of the summer. I’ve found my lil tush swaying in the car numerous time, I just can’t help it! He’s been on a roll lately cause his song with Miss Lopez was a booty shaker as well
alyssa - fashion fitness foodie says
What kind of waffles do you eat? i swear the vans ones always take like 9 minutes so by then i could’ve polished off the entire peanut butter container.

90’s music rocks. I was recently talking about that DJ Cool song to a coworker who graduated this past year. Can you believe he didn’t know it!? Omg, I have never felt so old. But then I thought about the fact that when I was 14 or 15 when that song came out he was 7. Reality check!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
Oh my, those songs really bring me back! And that veggie bacon. It is good. Really good. I haven’t had regular bacon in 14 years and, to me, that stuff is darn close to the real thing.
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Haha I love your dancing picture! Cute.
Julie says
That photo of you & Ryan cracks me up!! Love the playlist.
Holly says
TOTALLY random, but I love that your favorite song of the summer is Give Me Everything! I always call Pitbull my boyfriend (even though I’m married..we all have to have our ‘married bf’ 😉 )as a joke..all of my friend’s refer to him as that to me- lol! He’s not even that cute, but he just has that swagger..HAHA! Ok, now I feel like a TOTAL nerd..but I just had to share!
His new album is AWESOME! I listen to it almost every day on my way to work & home from work…gets me pumped up 😀
