It’s the start of another week! I hope it’s a good one for you guys.
Our weekend was filled with summer fun. Barbeques, outdoor pool time, card games and quite a few fruity cocktails.
On Saturday morning, Ryan and I spent some time outside washing our cars while Sadie had a blast in her kiddie pool.
Since the temperatures climbed into the upper 90s and the humidity was raging, Sadie was more than happy to relax in her pool (with her frisbee close by, of course).
Then it was time for the adults to enjoy some pool time! Ryan and I drove over to Eric and Amanda’s house for a barbeque by their pool.
Our afternoon started with drinks! Everyone else drank out of normal cups but Eric thought it would be amusing to make me drink out of a stein.
The guys did a great job of taking over both food and drinks for the day.
Sadie helped!
We had burgers, potato salad, chips, dip, ice cream cupcakes and fruit pops.
Eric made the cheeseburgers by mixing bacon and shredded cheddar cheese into the ground beef and topping the patties with sliced green olives before melting cheese on top. They were fantastic and I topped mine with all the veggies, ketchup and mustard.
We all enjoyed Miami Vices (pina colada + strawberry daiquiri) with dinner.
Oh yes!
Dessert was a combination of ice cream cupcakes and fruit bars.
Ryan and I found those bars while Ryan was on a mission to find the traditional flavored ice pops that remind everyone of childhood.
Remember these?
The two people we asked at Publix about them had absolutely no idea what we were talking about and told us to check a specialty foods store. What!? I’m pretty sure every summer camp in America has hundreds of these babies stored in their freezers and I doubt they’re shopping at specialty stores.
The fruit bars we ended up buying were pretty good and 5,000 times better for us, I’m sure, because they were made with real fruit and didn’t look neon.
After dessert, we spent the rest of the night sipping on our drinks outside by the pool and playing cards.
It was a great summer Saturday!
Question of the Morning
- What was your favorite childhood ice cream treat?
I loved two ice cream truck classics: Choco Tacos and strawberry shortcake bars!
Oh my goodness, all that food looks delish! Love your outfit by the way! Cute!
Thanks!!
Ice cream sandwiches, Drumsticks and Flinstones Push Pops!!! I’m from FL so there was nothing better on a pool day then to take a break and have Mom bring out a frozen snack!
I loved Flinstone’s Push Pops, too!!
Geez, Sadie is just too adorable, she’s just like a little kid 🙂 I never tried either of those. I just to get the big cup of frozen lemonade, it was more like a icee. YUM!
Strawberry shortcake bars are still my fave! Just looking at those freezie pops (that’s what we called them back in the day anyways) makes my teeth hurt lol. I remember going through the box in the freezer looking for purple or red!
Oh I love Miami Vices!!! We went to St. Lucia on our honeymoon last October, and I drank so many of those 🙂 Those flavored ice pops were amazing! I have seen them at WalMart as well as dollar stores (I live in California).
Sadie looks so happy in that little pool! Adorable! Looks like a fun weekend.
I still love the strawberry shortcake bars, i see them at the gas station all the time and want!
Drumsticks! I used to love the fudge at the bottom tip of the cone :)!
Aww, I love Sadie! Looks like you guys had an awesome weekend. Happy Monday!
Love your vizsla! My husband and I are hopefully getting one soon. You’re blog inspires me 🙂 I have to say I liked the choco taco myself haha!
First off, these Sadie pictures are just killin’ me! I’m trying to convince my boyfriend to adopt an adult vizla to keep our lab company and your pictures are helping my case 🙂
Secondly, what a great topic for the morning! I loved the Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Bars from the ice cream truck. Come to think of it, I think they still have them. Must have a baby so that I can justify buying them!!
Oh my gosh I LOVED those Strawberry Shortcake pops… soooo good! Now I am craving one.
summertime bbqs are the absolute best 🙂 my friend & i are hosting a margaritaville themed bbq at her house this saturday. i’m so excited! we’re going to make a batch of margaritas inside a carved out watermelon (crossing my fingers that it actually works…)
those fruit bars remind me of otter pops, which i used to LOVE when i was a little kid!
I loved those ice pops when I was a kid!! Total throwback.
This so reminds me of all those childhood classics I loved. Like ring pops, warheads, all those fun things. Not exactly ice cream truck food, but I was never a huge fan of those besides they had warhead ice cream, which I was all about. Or the mickey mouse pops I loved!
Sounds like such a fun Summertime bbq! Those are always the best.
I loooove your mint green tank top! My favorite color! I think they sell those pops at Walmarts but I am not sure. I always loved choco tacos and drumsticks with the huge fudge chunk at the end!
What??? How could they not know what a freeze-pop was?? We have them all over here in Minnesota! 🙂
FYI those popsicles (freezepops is what we call them) are usually avaialbe in most Walmarts, Kmarts, basically any cheap store. When I lifeguarded patrons used to buy us packs of 100s when the temps got really high!
I’ve recently seen Otter Pops at my grocery store, which I haven’t seen since I was a child!
I loved Big Sticks! They sold them at the snack shack in elementary school for 25 cents. Can’t beat a sweet treat that’s cheap AND gives you cherry red lips!
ooooh strawberry shortcake bars- i loved those!! always got them from the icecream truck 🙂
i was just at costco yesterday and they had a (big) box of those freeze pops!
i loved the bomb pops (red, white and blue ones) and screwballs (had the gumball in the bottom that was all crumbly and kind of gross, but i loved it as a kid).
We call those freeze pops Otter Pops here on the wesr coast. They are sold at costco in bulk and I am pretty sure they make up a good 75 percent of my husbands diet every summer.
I love your phone case! Where did you get it/order it?
Looks like a fun weekend 🙂 my fav ice cream treat growing up were definitely the ice cream “Drumsticks”. Yum!

That looks like a perfect summer Saturday! This weekend I went camping and a friend brought his visla – it was my first time ever spending time around one and I couldn’t help but think of Sadie. I was cracking up at his neediness all weekend, and when my friend tried to get him to swim (in a life jacket of course) out to fetch marshmallows, it was the most hilarious/pathetic/adorable display I’ve ever seen.
Oh my gosh…LOVE strawberry shortcake bars!! It makes me think of going to my grandma’s pool in Indiana. She’d let us get a treat from the snack bar and I almost always got a strawberry shortcake bar. I also loved ice cream sandwiches growing up. Now I’m hungry! 😀
Aww looks like a perfect summer weekend. I wish I could get my dog to like the kiddie pool!! Sooooo cute! Those ice pops are classic but I would have to say my favorite childhood treat had to be any of those cartoon ice cream pops like sponge bob or tweety bird 🙂
I’m new to your blog, but I just love all the pics of your puppy! She’s definitely got character!
Otterpops were always the perfect summer treat. And does anyone else remember Squeezeits? Are those still around?
We have Flavor Ice up here in NH! I’m dealing with morning sickness these days (yay babies, boo pregnancy) and I swear that Flavor Ice are getting me through it. I eat about six of them a day and very little else!
I used to love those strawberry bars. We just got back from Punta Cana and if I look at another Piña Colada I’m going to puke!
Sadie in the kiddie pool- too cute! Our vizsla doesn’t seem to be a fan of the water. We’ve tried swimming a few times this summer and she absolutely freaks. Does Sadie swim?
Favorite summer treat was and still is frozen lemonade (the kind you can find at a ballpark).
I love weekends like that! I love the ice cream on the left. They used to make it in vanilla almond and it was amaaaazing.
drumsticks!! my grandparents always (and still do) kept them in their house!!
Oh my gosh I loved those flavor ice things! I still buy the motts applesauce ones! I also loved the vanilla ice cream bars covered in crunch bar chocolate.
Yes!! Flavor Ice is the bomb dot com! I remember loving Nutty Buddy’s!! So good!!
Ohhh those strawberry shortcakes ice cream bars are sooo delish!!! What an amazing lookin’ burger–he’s talented, hah! The ingredients in the meat sound pretty creative, too.
They sell the fla-vor-ice at my publix on the juice aisle (near the fruit snacks).
I used to love those ice pops when I was in middle and elementary school; we called them jolly pops and our school would sell them to us for a dime! Ah, to be young again, ha! Your phone case is super cute by the way; I’m currently obsessed with chevron print at the moment. Where did you get it?!
My local Home Depot has those ice pops (the non-healthy version) in a freezer in the store during the summer to cool down customers as they shop. I love the idea!
What a lucky puppy! She looks like she is in heaven in that kiddie pool 🙂
My kids still eat those Fla-Vor-Ice things! We’ve tried the Power of Fruit bars, and the didn’t go over well. I figure it’s okay for a treat every now and then to eat the neon kind. 🙂 I loved the Brown Cow as a kid!!!
omg, I LOVE choco tacos!
but growning up I was all about those ice cream push pops!
Such a great Saturday!
I was a huge fan of those strawberry shortcake bars, but I also loved the teenage mutant ninja turtle bars with the gum as the eyes 🙂
Ohhhhhh chaco tacos how I loved thee!
What a fun Sat you guys all had!
I loooove Otter Pops!
P.S. Everything tastes better out of a stein.
I really liked orange push pops! Choco tacos were excellent too:)
Choco tacos were the BEST!!! I swear I’d hunt down the ice cream man during summer so I could buy one!
I loved the choco-taco! That was always my go-to ice cream treat at the store. Those and the chocolate covered ice cream cones. you know the ones with chocolate inside the cones and at the bottom there would be a big chunk of melt in your mouth chocolate. Yum!
I LOVE Snickers Ice Cream bars- they were always an extra special treat on hot summer days! We also always had fudgesicles in the fridge for after the pool! Sounds like ya’ll had a great weekend!
Baby bottle pops were the single best thing ever 🙂
I subsisted on solely otter pops when I had mono! I think I just got them at Safeway. They aren’t usually in the freezer aisle, they’re just room temp in large boxes! I’ve found them in New York, Delaware, Washington, and California though (sometimes under “flav-or-ice”) so they’re definitely still around.
