Summery Salad

October 14, 2011 by Julie 103 Comments

Who is ready for the weekend? Any exciting plans out there?

Ryan’s dad is coming in town tonight and then I’m off to Orlando tomorrow for a baby shower for my friend Carrie.

It will actually be the first baby shower I’ve ever been to and I’m not really sure what to expect. Are they like bridal showers where women just hang out and watch the mommy-to-be open gifts?

Regardless, I am excited!

Lunch

I was also awfully excited to dig into a delicious lunch.

Check out this salad!

crab salad2

The salad included a yummy mix of avocado, tomatoes, corn, crab meat, red onions and cilantro, all dressed up in honey mustard.

So summery! Fall, what?

After lunch, I took a brief breather to run to the Verizon store.

My phone has been experiencing major issues.

droid pink cover 001

(Of course Sadie is my background.)

Most recently, I couldn’t hear anyone speak through anything but the loud speaker, and their voices were crazy quiet. I’ve been communicating solely by text with most people other than Ryan who served as my “tester” when I needed someone to call to see if it was working again.

Apparently the “Advanced Task Killer” app does more harm than good on many phones, so the woman I worked with at Verizon delete that off my phone, installed an update and popped out the phone’s battery, blew on it, and popped it back in.

Any other Nintendo lovers remember when you’d just take a Nintendo game that was acting funky out of the console, blow on it, put it back in the console and then it was as good as new again?

If only everything could be so easily fixed!

P.S. The original title of this post was “Just Blow On It.” Smile

Question of the Afternoon

  • What was/is your favorite video game?

Mine was definitely Donkey Kong. Anyone else remember the mine cart level? So cool!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

OMG lol I think I’m only like 5 years older than you but I totally remember doing that. Why did that always work??? Salad looks yum-o!! I just got the iPhone in the mail today…my phone is so jacked up it’s really funny. My kids have dropped it, I have dropped it, screen cracked in multiple places, slow as molasses etc. Can’t wait to get my phone up and running! You too, that’s a pain!

Oooh have fun at the baby shower! I’ve only been to one, but it was quite similar to a bridal shower, I thought–lots of opening tiny little baby gifts, lots of eating yummy things, and lots of squealing. Although we did play baby bingo with all the presents my cousin received! Alas, I did not win the centerpiece.

P.S. I totally want to go back to my parents’ house and dig out my old Sega Genesis now. 🙂

My favorite game was the original Super Mario. I still have my Nintendo somewhere in the basement. Maybe one day when my son is older, I’ll dig it out and have him see what video games used to be.

Baby showers are bridal showers but with baby gifts. I love em too!

Yep, baby showers are pretty chill. I’ve been to a few (most recently my best friend’s, and I was all “WHA??? I’m too young for this!”…but they’re basically just lots of presents, food, and silly games (if you get lucky you wont have to taste baby food mixtures…although that would make for a hilarious blog post)

haha I have the original Nintendo, and I was actually playing it last month and had to blow on it to work! I used to have a ton of games, but sadly I can’t find them 🙁 I only have Mario 1 and duckhunt, and Mario 3. Both still awesome, but I remeber loving Dr. Mario which I can’t find and upsets me!

I went to my very first baby shower last year for one of my really good friends. I had so much fun! I think the best game that we played was when we cut pieces of yarn to the length that we thought would wrap around her belly. The person who guessed the closest length won a gift. Have fun! 🙂

Also, my phone hates me as well… I can’t hear calls or voicemails, and couldn’t text last night either. But I think Sprint just called to say the replacement was in, so hooray! (Though they did try to tell me by calling the cell phone that can’t receive calls…)

Baby showers and bridal showers are fairly similar in my mind – sometimes you play silly games, watch the mom-to-be open presents, have cake and generally just enjoy the company of the fab women you are with!

Oh, and that blowing trick? Priceless. Also worked with VHS, if I remember correctly 🙂

Hahahahahahaha …. LOL (almost fell off my chair!!) …. HA! Yeah …. “Blow on It” ….. very good. You should have used that as your header. Why? Because that would be appropriate, AND ….. very-very funny.

    YOU are hysterical Julie. Honestly.

The pics you title w/Sophie are something I look forward to! Honestly. I need to print some of them …. but, I don’t think they will come out okay. Ha. So cute!

The baby shower will be super-fun. It might give you and the hubs ideas!! My niece had her first little bebe this past June. There were 5 babies born into the family!! What a summer it was!!! There are still several mommies-to-be left. I’m definitely broke. HA!

What gift did you decide for bebe? Good quality swaddlers are a fantastic. There is soooo much to choose from. First-time mamas need everything. It’s all highly expensive too.

Ohgosh. That braless diva female. Ugh. She is definitely “on the make.” For something. Warn Ryan.

Julie …. keep makin us laugh. I love it! You are gorgeous/intelligent …. in every single way.

Have a fun/safe trip (drive) to Orlando!!

baby showers are sort of fun idk. i have been to a couple and i love the socializing and eating but sometimes the games are quite silly and long. i like to play some but one baby shower i went to they just went on and on and it was just too much. i love the toilet paper game where you have to guess how big her belly is.

    could just be me though:)

it is fun to watch her open the gifts, they are so cute!

    have fun!

Omg, I don’t envy you. I’d rather be doing anything than going to a baby/bridal shower. Everyone will talk about her belly and touch it and sometimes measure it with toilet paper.

You might have to look in some diapers at melted candy bars. Then women will tell their giving birth horror stories.

Hopefully there’s alcohol and people you like. GOOD LUCK! 🙂

As for the games, way would be the ORIGINAL Nintendo…none of the Super NES you were talking about. Mario 3 I think takes the bill on this post, and your better half would agree, that TECMO Bowl for the Nintendo would be a close second.
