This morning my breakfast bowl contained:
- 1 c. Greek yogurt
- 1/2 c. cottage cheese
- 1 white nectarine, chopped
- Sweetener to taste
Protein-packed, nutrient-rich and completely uncomplicated.
Those of you crunched on time in the morning might enjoy this lil’ baby because it can be assembled in less than two minutes. Lightning fast!
Workout
I was craving a cold and creamy breakfast after my five-mile run with Sadie.
We flew through our run this morning!
I blame the cupcake (or two) that I had after dinner last night for the extra energy. 😉
When we got home, I rolled out my yoga mat for some stretching…
…Which didn’t last too long because I had some uninvited company show up.
Since a five mile run is clearly a walk in the park for Sadie, I let her out back to play around for a while and expend some more of her never-ending energy while I assembled my breakfast and lunch.
Swamp Beast
Okay, now it’s time for a serious discussion. 😉
For the past week, every time I’ve gone into our bathroom to take a shower in the morning, I’ve noticed that my towel has been removed from the towel rack and thrown over the shower curtain. I’ve been a little confused, but assumed Ryan used my towel to wash his face or something and hung it over the shower curtain to dry instead of placing it back in its proper place.
Before stepping into the shower, I would hang my towel back up on the towel rack and shower as usual.
Last night as Ryan and I were going to sleep he asked me if I’ve been enjoying the new location of my towel.
I started laughing and told him I had no idea why he’s been taking it off the towel rack putting it over the shower curtain. I told him I’ve hung it back up every day before showering, to which he said I was thwarting his plan!
Apparently Ryan has been moving my towel in an effort to prevent my inner “Swamp Beast” from coming out.
Here’s the thing: When I’m done showering, I step out of the shower and walk across the bathroom to get my towel off the towel rack.
Ryan feels that I trek too much water across the bathroom when I do this, causing our bathroom to look like a swamp (Hence his new nickname for me: Swamp Beast).
I don’t like drying off in the shower because I feel like it’s muggy and not as clean as the soft rugs in our bathroom. I like to jump right out when my shower is done, pump my fists in the air, proclaim “I’m clean!” and watch Sadie stare at her naked mama in confusion. (Totally kidding, but I do jump out of the shower right away.)
Ryan thinks I should fold my towel and set it on top of the toilet before I shower, since this would allow me to reach my towel from the shower. I prefer walking the two teeny steps to grab my towel off the towel rack because toilets (even when closed and covered with a toilet seat cover) are just plain gross.
We were laughing pretty hard before going to sleep last night about Ryan’s passive little plan to tame my inner Swamp Beast, which I clearly didn’t catch on to at all.
So, now I have a question for you:
Do you dry off in the shower, or do dry off once you get out of the shower?
I know I can’t be the only Swamp Beast out there…
Jessica @ How Sweet says
Hahahah I do the same thing…I always get the entire floor wet. But luckily, our towel rack is a bit closer to the shower now. I just can’t dry off IN the shower. It’s weird.
Paige says
Hahaha 🙂 I love it!
We have a towel rack within arms reach of our shower… so I step out onto the bathmat, grab my towel, and then head into the bedroom where the fan is going so I can quickly cool off (and avoid all that humidity, ew).
I’m with Ryan in that it would drive me crazy to have a puddle of water, but with you in that I *have* to get out of there immediately!
Bethany says
Haha, this argument had me cracking up! I step out of the shower before drying off, but I have a mat that I stay on to catch all the water (my towel rack is right next to the shower so it’s within grabbing distance). Water on the bathroom floor is one of my pet peeves and I’m always chiding my boyfriend about it. Hope you and Ryan come to a happy compromise!
MelissaNibbles says
I dry off in the shower because water all over the floor drives me nuts. Plus, I’m scared of not wiping it up and getting mold in my bathroom! Gross!
Mellissa says
I would totally call you Swamp Beast on that one too 😉 I dry off outside of the shower but have my towel on the ledge of our whirpool tub so I grab the towel as soon as I open the shower door.
Rachel says
I actually do it in the shower because I don’t like water on my floor. But to be fair, my bathroom is so small I could pretty much step out of the shower and right into the bedroom. Also, since my skin is so dry I use baby oil right before I get out, and I REALLY don’t want that all over the floor.
Meg says
Hahaha too funny! I am a total swamp beast too! I cannot stand the humidity in the shower, guh! 😛 Swamp beasts unite! Sometimes I even trek across the hallway back to my room when I’m home alone to take a “towel nap” – where you wrap yourself in your towel and nap to dry off 😀 It’s amazing and I highly recommend it.
Love the lightning fast breakfast, and Sadie obviously doesn’t agree that stretching is necessary at all 😉
Enjoy your day!
peanutbutterfingers says
I’ve left my towel in the bedroom before too & trek water all over the upstairs of our apartment. Shhh… don’t tell Ryan. 😉
Jessica says
BAAAAAhahahhaha! Sounds like I have something in common with your fiance (and you have something in common with my husband!) Favian always gets the bathroom all wet and I can’t stand it!! If I’m around when he takes a shower, I always, always, ALWAYS go in and place the folded towel on the sink (closer to the shower than the toilet). He knows why I do this, too. We have a nice bath mat that soaks up most of his water, but I just don’t understand why he doesn’t at least dry off his feet with each step to keep it a little dry. My argument is that over the years, it can could cause a moisture buildup and mold in our bathroom, which can easily be prevented by simply drying each foot before stepping out! Plus, I don’t like stepping on a wet floor when my feet are dry… :()
Edible Amy says
I like to get out of the shower as soon as I’m done. It gets hot and sticky in there like you said. I like to feel the fresh air on my skin even if I dribble a little water on the floor!
Courtney @ Three Months says
I fold my towel and place it on the toilet seat!! I begin to dry off in the shower and then step out – so a little of both.
Amy @ Second City Randomness says
I get out first fo sho’.
I have a towel rack, but when shower time comes, I move the towel to the top of the toilet. Not the actual closed seat, but the back part. Because it seems less gross… lol
bubblegumgymkat says
Hahaha that is too funny…water on the bathroom floor is one of my pet peves. I always dry off before.
Therese says
Ha! My boyfriend and I are the opposite! He’s the one that steps out of the showering leaving the floor a wet mess and I’m the one that steps on the wet mess and scrunches my nose in annoyance!
I do happen to leave the towel on top of the toilet and dry off my upper body in the shower and then that’s when it gets weird. When I open the door I put half the towel on the floor, step on it (our bath mat sucks), dry my feet, step off the mat and then dry the lower half of my body. Sounds like a lot of work but it’s not really! LOL
I love hearing about people’s routines, it’s what makes us unique individuals!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says
I have a hook next to my shower so I take the towel off the rack before I go in and put it on the hook. Then I can grab my towel without getting water all over the place. When I’m done, it goes back on the rack and my husband is free to use the hook while he’s showering. I know, kinda a complicated system but it works. I also usually dry off in the shower since it’s too cold outside.
Denise says
I dry outside of the shower as well. It also drives my hubby crazy, although he doesn’t call me a swamp beast. I do NOT have rugs on my floor because that is gross to me (isn’t hilarious how every person has quirks?) and I’ve fallen before on the slick tile. Dislocated me knee that time. Anyway, I throw a hand towel on the floor to step on. I have a stack especially for this. I’m happy because all knees are intact and I can dry off outside of the shower, dearest hubby is happy because there is no slip ‘n slide in the bathroom!
Heather says
don’t you love when dogs tackle you when you’re working out? mine do it all the time when i’m doing ab work…bah!
Anna says
I dry off outside of the shower, but when I’m feeling nice I dry my tracks so that my hub doesn’t get mad (or slip on my wet tracks and break his neck, which would make him REALLY mad!) 🙂
morriskr says
Oh my goodness I would have to follow you around and wipe up the wet feet spots! LOL. I grab my towel while still in the shower, step out of the shower onto the bath rug and dry off there. I wipe my feet first though before stepping on the bath rug! I cannot stand “wet” anywhere but my towel! You crazy swamp beast! 😉
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
HAHAHA – this totally made me think of my toilet paper debate with the hubby!
I dry off in the shower, since it’s easy enough for me to hang my towel on the shower door rack.
But your issue definitely gave me a good laugh this morning. 🙂
lisaou11 says
I dont even like drying off at all! Im an “air dryer”! So, if I HAVE to dry off, I definitely do it OUT of the shower!
atastelife says
I have to side with Ryan. I take my towel and throw it over the shower door so that I can dry out before I get out. I can’t stand when the bathroom floor is a “swamp.” But Big Guy can be a “swamp beast” occassionally but I’ve learned to pick my battles. haha.
Kristen says
I just had to comment because my boyfriend says the same thing to me! Lol, I prefer to step out and grab my towel and dry off outside the shower…I like the air helping dry me off; he says it makes me trek water EVERYWHERE! haha I still do it though and he gave up 😉 Love your blog and think it’s fun how you work Sadie into almost every post. Have a nice day!
jensanders52 says
Hahha! Welcome to the almost world of married life!!!
I do bring my towel closer to the shower, so I don’t get the floor wet. However, in college I lived with a swamp beast who would drip water every where! There were several occasions when one of us would almost kill ourselves walking into the bathroom after one of her showers. Water on the floor = slippery mess! 😉
Maybe you could install a hook closer to the shower to hang your towel on instead of laying it on the toilet.
Jams says
Blake is my swamp beast. I dry myself before I get out of the shower mostly.. Blake will get out and walk around. There is water all over the place by the time he’s done!
I’m glad y’all got a good laugh last night!
effcubed says
I am a swamp beast. I can’t dry off in the shower, I have to walk across the bathroom to get my towel. (Swamp Beasts are cool! :-P)
Sara says
🙂 This post made me laugh! First, for Sadie interrupting your streching. I do P90X (an at home workout program) and my dog, Diesel, always gets in my way and tries to play with me when I’m working out. The Swamp Beast story was hilarious. I’m definately not a swamp beast and I keep my towel right within grabbing reach of the shower.
Andrea says
Ha Ha! I am with Ryan on this one. I prefer to have my towel in an area I can reach right when I get out so I don’t get the floor soaked.
Stef says
Hey,
as I cannot reach a towel from inside my shower I have to step outside. But we have a special towel on the bathroom floor in front of the shower which will soak up the water so that you don’t stand in a puddle of water. Because otherwise I would lie flat on my face every time I leave the shower…I’m just no good with slippery surfaces!
How about that idea so Ryan has a dry floor and you can hop out of the shower?
Tracey @ TropicalHappiness says
My towel is always within reach. One of my biggest pet peeves is a damp bathroom rug… blech! I go so far as to stretch my body out of the shower and around the wall to grab my facewash if I left it on the sink… whatever I do, I don’t step out of the shower! LOL!
Shanna, like Banana says
Nope, I’m a towel-off-in-the-shower girl. Mugginess in all! But then I shoot my fan in the bathroom while I’m getting dressed to release that hot air.
Janna's Keeping it Real! says
I am a “get out and dry” kind of girl, for sure! I cringe at the thought of having anything on or near the toilet, so i would veto that idea in a heartbeat!
what a funny little battle this must have been! he he he =0)
emily says
You are clearly a FL girl! When I lived in the Caribbean I stepped out, now that I’m in Buffalo I stay in my warmth bubble in the shower.
Andrea says
I am a total swamp beast, has driven everyone I have ever shared a bathroom with crazy!
Sarra H says
I never towel off in the shower either, I love getting out of the shower asap as soon as I’m done!!
P.s. you have the most amazing abs I’ve ever seen!!! 🙂
Melissa says
This is too funny! I start drying off in the shower & when I have one leg & foot dry, I step out & then finish drying on the rug. Isn’t it so funny how everyone has their own method? I wouldn’t have even thought about this if you hadn’t brought it up!
elaine @ Om Sweet Om says
Hahah thanks for sharing this hilarious story, especially on this gloomy, cold morning (seriously, what is wrong with Los Angeles weather?!).
I know how much I hate other people making a “swamp” in the bathroom, so I dry off in the shower. My sister definitely is a major swamp beast!
Marissa says
Well, considering my bathroom is just slightly bigger than your average broom cupboard, the only place I really have room to dry off is in my shower! Heheh.
Jen @ Spacks Scramble says
Love it! I dry off in the shower and am always nagging on my husband when he walks across the floor, getting water everywhere. Maybe I need to try the subtle hint of putting the towel within reach. Thanks for the tip
Kt says
That is so funny! My sister and her bf apparently have that exact same uh… difference of opinion… all the time! She hates it when “people get out of the shower wet” which is pretty funny.
Personally, I walk across the bathroom to get my towel, but our bathroom is about 5 feet wide 🙂
Kelly says
Too funny! I am on Ryan with this one (sorry) and I usually dry in the shower beause I don’t like trekking water across our bathroom floor. But we have a REALLY big bathroom (seriously we lucked out when we bought the house) and from our shower to the sink is easily 8 to 10 or so feet. So that would be one long wet walk! haha! (Oh and our toilet has it’s own private room on the other side of the bathroom so that isn’t an option either) But I like how you own being the “swamp beast!”
Amber K says
I step out on the bath mat and just from there I can reach my towel. I would definitely think drying off in the actual shower would be way too hot!
Plus our drain likse to get clogged, and my towel would get sopping wet!
Stacey @ Tipping the (Kitchen!) Scales says
I towel down outside of the shower but like many, have my towel within arms reach so as not to get the floor wet! Good job on the run.
Mama says
Now I know why the bathroom rugs in our house are always wet! I always dry everything off before stepping out of the tub or shower because I don’t like the mess. I understand your issue with the towel on the toilet, but how about a towel rack on the far side of the shower?? It takes so long for those mats to dry! Funny, my little swamp monster! Love, Mama xo
Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices says
Oh my goodness Julie, this was SO funny!! Thank you for a great afternoon laugh 😀
I usually dry off in the shower, but I can understand not wanting to be in the humid air. & the part about you jumping out & saying “i’m clean” had me cracking up!!!
Oh, and a side note- I had to run out on my lunch break to grab something & my office is right on Lake Eola, well, I saw this girl walking a Sadie dog & I had to do a double take really quick. I was like OMG Sadie, but then I saw the girl walking her & it definitely wasn’t you.
peanutbutterfingers says
aw! i wish i was!
Kristy says
I’m and outtie! I put down a used towel to soak up the water and replace it with the towel I was using to dry when I get a new clean one. Make sense?
MASHley says
ash – haha. i loved this argument. i confess i prefer to dry off in the tub/shower. if anyone else borrows my shower and gets my floor all wet, i certainly don’t complain. but i’m not a huge fan of walking in there afterward and the place has puddles all over. especially when i don’t think about how they might have gotten it wet and i’m wearing socks…
Lauren says
OMG my hubby and I have this same exact argument al the time. He always hangs the towel over the shower rod to dry but I always put it back on the rack. He thinks it doesn’t dry completely by hanging it on the rack, but I hate the way it looks with a damp towel hanging over our shower. We honesty go back and forth about this all the time and can’t come up with a solution!! I can not dry off in the shower because I always drop the towel but he always dries off in the shower! Such a debate! 🙂
Marie says
Haha, so funny! I definitely like drying off outside of the shower but we have a mat that I stand on to catch any drips. I don’t like stepping on wet floors either. Isn’t it great, though, that you can laugh things off like this together instead of fighting? Love it! You guys are great together!
jessica says
This may be a silly question but why don’t you use a bathroom mat? I have one that’s right outside the shower on the bathroom floor so that I step onto it when getting out of the shower, then reach for my towel, and dry myself outside the shower.
JunieB says
in the shower…
