I’m pretty sure I didn’t stop sweating from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. It was sweatastic!
I took a group of runners out for a 5K run around the gym at 9 a.m. Our first runner’s club run went well, but my goodness it was HOT. Everyone returned red-faced and dripping in sweat, but I think the social aspect of the run kept our spirits high.
I had a lot of fun talking to Erika, a gym member and friend of mine who seems like my running twin. We both said that no matter how much we run, running always feels hard for us… but it also gives us a sense of accomplishment like no other form of exercise. Every single time I cross the finish line at the end of a half marathon, I am filled with the most amazing feeling.
I think that’s what keeps me coming back time and time again. It’s pretty fabulous! (Just in case you’re new to running and really want to build up to running a half marathon, check out this post: So You Want To Run a Half Marathon. I started by running a 5K and built my way up!)
After our ridiculously sweaty outdoor run, I was really hoping I’d have 15 minutes to quickly shower before my first appointment of the day, but that didn’t happen and I ended up working through the morning in my gross running clothes.
At one point, my personal training client said, “Do you smell that!? It smells like… soap.” I was shocked when she said “soap” and not “armpit” because, at that point, I was dying to take a shower and was concerned I was stinking up a storm. Unfortunately my morning was jam-packed so I didn’t get a chance to shower and before I knew it, I was back outside teaching water fitness and sweating my butt off again.
By the time I finally made it home from work, my shower felt beyond glorious. Oh to be clean again!
Lunch
Backing it up to my break room lunch…
I packed leftovers from Sunday night’s dinner. I know it looks pretty horrific, but it was so, so good. Ryan and I made Publix Apron’s date night chicken and loved it.
I tried a sample of the dish from the sample lady when I was grocery shopping on Sunday afternoon and knew we had to make it for dinner that night. I told Ryan that I felt like one of the chefs on Chopped when the recipe had me deglazing the pan with a cup of white wine. Snazzy!
If you’re looking for a delicious dinner, I highly recommend trying the date night chicken. (It’s called date night chicken because, not only is it a delicious “date night” dinner, but dates are one of the main ingredients in the dish.) And don’t worry, I’m sure you can pretty it up a bit, too!
Alright, folks, I’m outta here! My mission for the rest of the day?
Hydrate.

Question of the Afternoon
- When was the last time you were ridiculously sweaty this summer?
I was pretty sweaty after power yoga on Saturday, but any outdoor run in the summer in Florida takes the cake when it comes to sweating. Running in the humidity makes me sweat like a beast.
Melissa says
Wow, such a unique sounding meal! I don’t think I’ve ever had a date before, but now I’m curious!
Victoria says
Hmmmm sweatiest day…probably Ironman Louisville. 14 hours, 96F when we hit the marathon course. I wanted to burn my sportsbra by the end, especially since it had been in the Ohio River for over an hour before all the actual sweating. Nasty stuff.
peanutbutterfingers says
yeeeeesh! that’s amazing and congrats on your accomplishment!
Victoria says
I dunno if it’s so much “accomplishment” as “really stupid idea.”
My friend’s husband said she smelled like a bum by the end of the race.
Kaitlyn says
I feel the same way. I ran my first half in March and 2 mile runs still feel hard for me! Sometimes I can get myself pretty discouraged, but then I just remind myself that no matter how hard or slow I feel, I truly love running and the accomplishment that I feel!
Jeana says
I’m always sweatiest in hot yoga classes, but other than that, the sweatiest day this summer has to be the day I hiked in the middle of a 100-degree Texas day. Perhaps not the wisest idea–but I did hydrate!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
That does sound quite sweatastic! I agree with that running thing too–it is never super easy for me either, but races can be super fun!
I think I get sweatiest when teaching Zumba–I am always drenched by the end! Also, running in humidity is preeeetttyy sweaty too.
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
A few weeks ago I did a 2 hour Zumba class. I sweated SO much it was embarrassing! It basically look like I stepped into the shower with all my clothes on!!!
I running in the 5k Color Run this weekend! I’m so excited!!!
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Every week after spin…I always end up taking my top off in the car on the way home as I can’t bear to sit in it!
Melissa Chancellor says
There was that day in June where I went for a morning run, followed up by some full body strength training. After that I continued to deep-clean our house for about 2.5 hours, and furthermore gave our Chocolate Lab a bath outside. I could’ve stopped at this point but decided to do some light yardwork before FINALLY showering. My shower that day was definitely earned!!
Angie says
OMG…we were in Publix on Sunday and we walked in and the smell of the Date NIght Chicken sent us running to the back. The “Apron” lady always loves to see my boys because they always grab her recipes and ask her what she’s cooking!! I know my boys are secretly hoping their mom (ie ME) will get her act together and start cooking like dad does!! Not really seeing that in my future….! 🙂
Glad you had good run with your group!! I am constantly trying to find a consistent group to run with!
Lauren @ Peaks and Passports says
I feel the exact same way about running! Living up in the mountains, I’m totally spoiled and can’t remember the last time I was “sweatastic.” It might be all the way back over Memorial Day when I ran the Bolder Boulder, a super-fun 10k (http://peaksandpassports.com/2013/05/29/the-bolder-boulder-a-6-2-mile-party/). Does that make you hate me a little?
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
An outdoor military fitness class recently had me wanting to run in to the sea to cool off after!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
I am telling you..some of the best dishes are the least pretty ones! 😉
Rebecca says
I was wondering now that you are working at the gym how your eating habits have changed? To be honest they seem the same on the blog as previously (but maybe I am missing something and I realise you don’t post everything you consume) but given the amount of exercise you are now doing I assume what you consume has changed substantially? You seem to be really enjoying your new job, very happy for you!
Ashlee says
I just started running- and I consider myself pretty fitness challenged, so it doesn’t take much to get me sweaty. But nothing compares to Sunday, when I went on my first run using the App “Zombies, run”. The intervals of game where the “missions” are being transmitted gave me just enough time to slow and walk and regain some strength, before I forced myself to run again for the duration of a song. And of course, when the game character yells at you “They’re gaining on you! Run! Run!”, it made it that much easier to put on a little burst of speed, ha ha. I came home much sweatier than usual having pushed myself a little further than I had been on my previous runs. I’m not a real zombie fan or a game player. Most of the game Apps I’ve ever downloaded sat on my phone unused, but for those needing some fun motivation, I highly recommend this one.
…A friend of mine told me she’d probably take up running, if they made of Lord of the Rings version of this game. Escaping from Orcs would be pretty fun, I’d say. Any game developers out there? Lol
Cassie @RedLetterDaye says
I’ve been getting super sweaty during my workouts, but outdoor concerts and beach days take the sweat cake. ew! 😉
Rita says
I actually just got back from buying dates in order to make “date night chicken” for dinner tonight!! I sampled it at Publix as well and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Unfortunately I just realized that I am out of goat cheese and am debating whether or not to run back to the store. By the looks of your picture…did you leave out the goat cheese? If so, was it missed? I was also thinking about adding some sliced portabella mushrooms in the pan. Any thoughts?
Kristi says
Sunday when I went to yoga. It wasn’t hot yoga, but it got so hot in our room that I was dripping with sweat and the teacher was warning us that if we felt overheated to go into child’s pose. It was so sweaty, but it felt good!
Lauren says
The hottest workout I had this summer was walking out to my mailbox when it was 107 degrees here in good old PA. LOL I’m pretty sure I was doused in sweat just walking a total of 20 feet. Yikes! And I hate the way I smell after ANY workout. No matter what deodorant I use, I always end up smelling ><
Jennifer L says
Humidity always makes me feel like an absolute monster!
Jessica R @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad says
I’ve been trying to get out for some more fun runs which means I have been doing more evening runs instead of my super early runs. Those have been the sweatiest 3 mile runs EVER. There was one in particular where it was still 95 with the heat index over 100. I couldn’t stop sweating. I really should keep a towel in my car.
Lauren says
I spent an evening in downtown Chicago two weeks ago and it kept raining on and off…the period when it wasn’t raining was the grossest weather I’ve ever experienced. It was so humid and nasty! My boyfriend and I ended up hanging out in a Walgreens frozen food section just to feel normal haha
Lou says
Oh my gosh. Just checked out that chicken recipe. Looks delish!
My husband and I coach a high school cross country team. We have summer practice everyday at 4:30pm and it’s always HOT, HOT, HOT! I look like I jumped into a pool after practice is over and all I can think about until I get home is SHOWWWWERRRRR!.
Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
I was ridiculously sweaty after my 9 mile, 4500 elevation hike earlier this month! Now THAT was sweattastic 😉
Donna says
I sweat everyday that I do boot camp (6 days a week) and everytime I run outside (2 days a week) but I love it.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
I sweat a ton at the gym, especially when I do kettlebell swings. I carry a towel with me every day so I don’t start dripping on everything!
Jackie Macharsky says
Today doing the summer shape up!
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
That chicken looks delicious! I wish I had a publix by me. Maybe I can find the recipe though 🙂
The last time I was super sweaty was on the eve of my 30th birthday. I did an 11 mile run, and I was covered in sweat from head to toe!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black says
I’m always pretty sweaty it seems like. It gets pretty dang hot in New Mexico. But the last time would have to be after I did some HIIT running outside one morning. I just got really really hot.
Chelsea @ RunChelseaRun says
It’s so nice to hear that other people have a hard time running no matter what kind of shape they are in. I was training for a 10K and got up to 5 miles and still felt I was struggling when I would go out for my 2 mile run. Exercise is exercise no matter how well you do at it, better than doing nothing!
Brooke @ Running In Heels says
I have a hard time running during Wisconsin summers.. I would never survive in Florida!
Alex says
I’ve recently gotten really into crossfit! Unfortunately there is no AC and the other day we did a TON of arm work and then ran 2 miles in the heat! So sweatastic! (I love that word 🙂 )
Ps. I love your blog!
Nicole @ crazyabouthealthy.com says
I always get the sweatiest during spin classes!! I think it’s the speedy intervals. It’s unlike long distance running, so that’s why I think I sweat a ton.
Michelle @ Peanut Butter and Running Shoes says
Running outdoors in 90 degree heat. I didn’t find it to be ridiculously hard, but I was drenched!
megan says
I was VERY sweaty at 830 this morning after a 4 mile run. I can’t wait for summer in Florida to be over!!
Megan says
Today after Zumba I was soooooooooo sweaty!

Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
Your day sounds like spending 10 minutes out in the Arizona sun! I feel your pain 🙂
Allysia says
I couldn’t agree more with what you had to say about. I actually just wrote a post about it tonight. I’m new to blogging so I have a lot to learn, but it’s a start.
The sweatiest? That’s a hard one. I’ve been on some runs in the humid air that cause me to swear buckets. Like you said, it’s the accomplishment that has me coming back 🙂
Allysia says
Wow just posted with someone else’s blog name- autocorrect oops. Sorry!
Brienne says
Just a few weeks ago when it was ridiculous hot and humid, every morning when I came back from my run I would be dripping sweat. Ewww.
Love this post! I really want to find a 1/2 marathon to do sometime soon! Hopefully get a few more 5Ks and do a few 10Ks before though! Thanks for the motivation every day 🙂
Kelsey Yoki says
It was a 94+ day in Duluth MN – which is HOT for us (and humid!). Even though it was crazy warm, I still wanted to CrossFit that night. Well, by the end of the WOD, I was a sweaty mess. Took me more than a half hour to cool down!
Erika @ fortheloveofpeanutbutter says
I can hardly run when it’s cold out, let alone hot and humid! Props!
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny says
running will never be easy for me…but I love the feeling I get from it, so I build myself up a little more each time! Love that you’re starting a beginners running group – really great way to get into it.
Elle says
I love to sweat! And that lunch looks wonderful – I am going to find a recipe for date night chicken!
Tara@PNWRunner says
Everytime I come back from a long run in the heat of the day (yes I am crazy) I look like a hot mess. Just sweaty, but I dont care. It just shows how hard I just worked!! Sometimes I go to the store all sweaty, but yet again it doesn’t bother me!
kerry says
I love how good a shower feels when you’re desperate for one! haha
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
It is winter here but I was crazy sweaty on Sunday when I went for a run at the gym on the treadmill.
Sarah @ A Refining Adventure says
You were busy AND sweaty today! I sweat SO much anytime I do anything. I know it’s good for you, but it’s actually pretty annoying. Glad you were able to finally shower off! 🙂
Rebecca Jo says
I’m a wedding photographer & did a wedding on the hottest day of the year… luckily, I kept the bridal party inside as much as possible, but would bring people out one by one – but I was outside for all the pictures – & I wear black… I was literally dripping sweat down my back & thankful for the ceremony in the AC 🙂
Jenn F. says
I’m so glad to hear that others think running is hard! Some people look so effortless while running. I love the feeling of completing a run, whether its a race or training run or just a sunday runday, but I don’t always love it WHILE I’m running.
