Back in the gym nice and early for another quality workout!
Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical.
While peddling away, I watched a story about an adorable puppy that was rescued from a trash bag in Orlando. A horrible breeder threw the puppy away because it couldn’t walk. (It has a condition called “swimmer puppy syndrome” where puppies remain on their chest and their chest wall flattens out.)
With the help of hydrotherapy in the pool and massages, the puppy, Harper, is taking her first steps at 11 weeks old.

How adorable is Harper!? Those eye bore right into my soul. I hope she lives a long and happy life.
After my time on the elliptical was up, it was off to the weight room to complete a leg workout that included the following exercises:
- Squats
- Lunges
- Deadlifts
- One-legged leg press
- Hamstring curls
I upped my weights during squats today and worked hard to get 100 squats again. This time I needed a break after 60 squats in a row, but I finished the remaining 40 in one swoop.
My legs felt fatigued but not totally beat after this workout which is a good thing since I have a five-mile run on the agenda tomorrow.
Breakfast
Breakfast today was protein-packed!
Do you guys add milk to your scrambled eggs? I always do, but Ryan never does.
My scrambled eggs were made with two eggs, two small chicken breakfast sausages, milk and a quarter of a cup of shredded cheese.
The sausages really amped up the flavor profile of this dish.
Page Updates
Yesterday I spent some time revamping a couple of my recipe pages to hopefully make them a little more organized with the use of categories. I added new favorite recipes to the mix as well!
- Breakfast
- Dinner
- Snacks
- Desserts, Baked Goods and Sweet Treats (<— Definitely make the pumpkin spice cookies on this page this fall! They’re Ryan’s all-time favorite cookie and are ridiculously easy to make.)

peanutbutterfingers says
oh i know. i will NEVER understand animal cruelty. ever. 🙁
Carol says
Never? But you eat meat. Is it not cruel? Don´t get me wrong, i hate animal cruelty too but i do not eat meat and so on…..
BTW: I really love your blog! 🙂
Faith @ For the Health of It says
I did too. At work. Sorry guys, it’s just…allergies…sniff
Emily says
I’m not too sure I’ve ever had scramble eggs withooooout milk!
Shannon says
I meant to write thats is so sad that someone would put a dog in a trash bag 🙁
Shannon says
aw, thats so sad 🙁
your breakfast looks delish!
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Aw poor Harper 🙁 It’s so disheartening to hear what some people are capable of doing. A trash bag? That’s pretty repulsive.
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
Oh my goodness. I have tears in my eyes. I want that puppy so bad. I can’t believe how absolutely awful people are. I love dogs more than I love humans. What a sweetie pie! I hope he is brought into a loving family 🙂 I will look at that picture about 100 times today.
Meg says
Oh my goodness that puppy is so adorable and what a sweet (but so sad) story! I hope he has a beautiful life 🙂
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
I have to admit, that puppy is gorgeous AND it reminds me of that movie coming out I’ve seen 1,450 advertisements for with Morgan Freeman and the Dolphin. Which simultaneously looks like the worst film ever AND something that will make me weep openly like an infant…
Love that pop of sausage. Yum.
peanutbutterfingers says
ha! i totally agree about that movie – it looks totally cheesy but it really intrigues me at the same time. i think it’s my inner child coming out… the one who always wanted to be a dolphin trainer.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
Two things I can’t handle; stories about kids and stories about dogs. Cruelty to either two confirms my belief in evil.
Giulia @ Tutupa's Lab says
those blue eyes! harper is so cute!
Nicole says
Now I have to add those cookies to the list of recipes I haven’t tried yet, but want to! That pile keeps getting bigger.

Tara says
That puppy is so cute!!! About the eggs…I always add milk to scrambled eggs too because that is what my mom did, not quite sure why though. And about the pumpkin spice cookies…I tried those last year, and they have been a hit ever since. I bought the ingredients when I went grocery shopping last weekend! 🙂
Rachel says
Harper is absolutely adorable!!! I will never understand animal cruelty either. Plain selfishness is what it is. So heartbreaking, but great to see him doing well 🙂
I made the pumpkin spice cookies a couple of days ago, and I only have about 4 cookies left…I ate them all by myself. Deliciousness! And for somebody who isn’t the best baker, they are a must in my cookbook!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Harper is SO cute!!! Makes me really really want to get a dog again… I keep telling myself that it’s not the right time to do it, but photos like that just put me right back where I started! The new pages are lookin’ great! 🙂
mel says
get one!! There are so many dogs in need of a home! Dogs are incredible! If you don’t want to have to do a whole lot of work (ie potty training, running endless miles everyday, dog parks all the time) get an adult dog. I have one and he is wonderful and so easy! He just wants love, food, daily walks!
Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food says
How could anyone ever throw away a puppy! ahglkdalgknasldkng
nicole @ simply Nicole says
Those cookies are amazing. I made them a few weeks ago. Too bad my bf doesn’t like pumpkin, because I ended up eating most of them!
Mallory @ It's Only Life says
I don’t think I will ever understand the harsh actions of certain individuals. I speculate that they must be in a VERY bad place to do something like throw away a little puppy! 🙁
On a brighter note, your breakfast looks delicious!! I love chicken sausages/
allison @ thesundayflog says
awh! such a sweet story. there is a viszla that lives near me and i always see her on walks. reminds me of sadie 🙂 my favorite cookies this time of year are these pumpkin chocolate chip ones i make that are almost like muffin tops! i just made them but subbed pureed winter squash and they are sooo good!
Anna @ Food Fitness and Frolicking says
A trash bag, seriously? That’s so depressing, but I’m glad Harper is okay now!
What kind/brand of breakfast sausage do you like? I always have a hard time selecting ones that aren’t too salty, etc.
peanutbutterfingers says
i use alfresco brand and they’re delicious: http://www.alfrescoallnatural.com/FlavorDetails.aspx?ID=9706
Katherina @ Zephyr Runs says
I love scrambled eggs with milk and I also am nervous around any breeder because of the heinous reputation bad ones have. For me it’s just not worth it to run the risk of a bad breeder masking themselves as a good one.
Bee Goes Bananas says
How could anyone ever do that? I couldn’t imagine ever throwing out a love puppy. pPeople are crazy!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I usually don’t use milk, but that sounds like good idea! I bet it makes it super tasty!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I have not heard that puppy story — how horrible!!! I do not understand people who do such things.
Khushboo says
Do you think adding milk makes a difference? I never do but that may explain why I do not enjoy scrambled eggs made by myself ha! That’s terrible about the puppy! Granted I’m not the biggest fan of pets but animal cruelty is heartbreaking!
peanutbutterfingers says
i think it makes them fluffier!
Amy says
Julie, this morning was the first (of many) that I woke up early, at 5:00 am and went to the gym. Thanks to you!
peanutbutterfingers says
yayyy!
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
OMG poor puppy, that picture is so precious. This story breaks my heart, but I’m so glad somone found him and is giving him a chance!
I work in a pretty bad neighborhood in Miami, and there are stray dogs all over the place. I wish I lived on a huge farm, I would save all the little hood pups 🙂
Ali @ Ali Runs says
Oh my gosh, that puppy is adorable! I will never understand how some people can do such horrible things. I’m glad someone found Harper!
Andrea @ Onion in My Hair says
Harper just broke my heart…what gorgeous eyes!
I have to share these story with all my fellow animal lovers – thanks for posting, Julie!
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
That makes me so so sad! Harper is adorable. I cant believe people can be so heartless. My puppy brings me so much joy and I dont understand it!
I never add milk to my eggs but I always add way too much cheese 🙂
Hope says
Aw! Harper is adorable! I don’t know how anyone could be so heartless as to hurt an animal! It’s just so cruel!
I never add milk to my eggs but my fiance always does. I should try it!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Aww puppy!!! So cute, what a sad story though….
Taylor @ Crumbs Don't Count says
OMG, that is terrible…sometimes I understand why it is so much easier to love dogs than other humans. Dogs are so loyal and kind no matter how you treat them, and people can be so cruel and uncaring. I love his name too!! Harper…too cool!
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Yeah I would write a check for every cent in my bank account to help that puppy back to health. I am a sucker for animal stories!
Tara @ Chip Chip Hooray says
I love adding milk to my eggs–I feel like it definitely upps the “fluff” factor, and I always enjoy them more, especially in omelets or scrambles. Tell Ryan to get on board, sheesh! 🙂
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I will never understand how someone could abuse an animal. It just makes me sick. On a brighter note, I am not a big fan of milk with my eggs.
Samantha says
Knowing how much you miss Body Pump and reading your old post about how much weight you used inspired me to get my butt to a class I would have skipped AND to up my weights for squats and lunges. Thank you!
peanutbutterfingers says
awesome!! i <3 bodypump!
Stephanie says
It makes me so angry to hear stories about animal cruelty. I have a dog and I couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to do that to such a loving creature 🙁
Jenn says
It breaks my heart to see animal abuse stories. Did anyone ever watch the show Dog Town? When it was on I seriously felt like quitting my job and working towards a careen saving animals!
Wendi @ A Southern Yogi says
OH MY GOSH THAT PUPPY IS SO SWEET!!!!
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
I never, ever make breakfast sausage for myself because growing up we were totally more of a bacon family, but my boyfriend’s fam loves link sausage. After a few visits to their home for breakfast, I suddenly find myself hooked on the salty flavor w my eggs..
By the way, totally made a waffle-wich today for bfast with jam and eggs and it made me think of you! Weird considering I know you only through reading the blog, but I had to tell you since you inspired me w such a delicious bfast idea!
Cait's Plate says
I was thinking just this morning how I’m SO jealous of all your egg breakfasts. I need to start making eggs more. I go through such phases with food and right now it’s oatmeal/yogurt but I kind of miss my egg phase!
peanutbutterfingers says
i go through phases, too! first it was yogurt bowls, then smoothies and now eggs!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
That puppy melts my heart! OH MY! Poor little thing…I’m glad it got rescued.
chelsea says
Oh my god that poor adorable puppy! Who could be so cruel to an animal?! You should never give up hope on them <3
Emmarie @ BananasAnd Beer says
That puppy!! Oh, just so adorable. I hope he has a long happy life with a loving family!
Lindsey says
I teared up a little bit reading about Harper. That face is too precious. I will never understand how anyone could treat an animal that way.
Amanda says
That breeder’s name should be all over the place, with “Animal Abuser” as his title. He/She is obviously in it just for the money and not the animals. Shame on that person!
peanutbutterfingers says
agreed!
Melissa says
Oh that pup is tugging at my heart strings! Now that I’m working from home, I’m seriously considering a vizsla adoption . . . Sadie has me sold!
janiek says
I’ve never heard of making scrambled eggs with milk!! How interesting, im def. Trying that! How much milk do you use?
peanutbutterfingers says
a pretty small amount! i didn’t measure it, but it’s really just a splash! if i had to guess, i’d say i added about 3 tbsp. of milk for 2 eggs.
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
Harper’s story just breaks my heart. I don’t understand how anyone could be so cruel to animals, children, other people, etc. It’s just sickening. I always add milk to my scrambled eggs as well…but just a splash.
Kate @ NaturaStride says
oh my goodness – that puppy photo MADE my morning. Thank you.
Yea, I always add (almond) milk to scrambled eggs. Not sure why – I bet I wouldn’t tell the difference. I think it’s because that’s how my mom made ’em growing up.
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
Aw! What a story! Those eyes just scream “LOVE ME!” ….I want to take her home and give her a long happy life!!!
