Back in the gym nice and early for another quality workout!
Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical.
While peddling away, I watched a story about an adorable puppy that was rescued from a trash bag in Orlando. A horrible breeder threw the puppy away because it couldn’t walk. (It has a condition called “swimmer puppy syndrome” where puppies remain on their chest and their chest wall flattens out.)
With the help of hydrotherapy in the pool and massages, the puppy, Harper, is taking her first steps at 11 weeks old.

How adorable is Harper!? Those eye bore right into my soul. I hope she lives a long and happy life.
After my time on the elliptical was up, it was off to the weight room to complete a leg workout that included the following exercises:
- Squats
- Lunges
- Deadlifts
- One-legged leg press
- Hamstring curls
I upped my weights during squats today and worked hard to get 100 squats again. This time I needed a break after 60 squats in a row, but I finished the remaining 40 in one swoop.
My legs felt fatigued but not totally beat after this workout which is a good thing since I have a five-mile run on the agenda tomorrow.
Breakfast
Breakfast today was protein-packed!
Do you guys add milk to your scrambled eggs? I always do, but Ryan never does.
My scrambled eggs were made with two eggs, two small chicken breakfast sausages, milk and a quarter of a cup of shredded cheese.
The sausages really amped up the flavor profile of this dish.
Page Updates
Yesterday I spent some time revamping a couple of my recipe pages to hopefully make them a little more organized with the use of categories. I added new favorite recipes to the mix as well!
- Breakfast
- Dinner
- Snacks
- Desserts, Baked Goods and Sweet Treats (<— Definitely make the pumpkin spice cookies on this page this fall! They’re Ryan’s all-time favorite cookie and are ridiculously easy to make.)

I have two rescue pups at home and they are my life!! My hubby and I don’t know what we did before we got them. The people who did this to that precious puppy deserve to be shot…I’m sorry but they do! Karma will get them
On a happier note, I don’t add milk to my eggies. I’ve noticed you have been eating eggs alot for b fast (which I love!) are you trying to up your protein or are you just on a egg kick? haha. I get on kicks all the time! have a good day
peanutbutterfingers says
just on an egg kick! and i also recently started making ryan breakfast too (he used to eat at the work cafeteria at his old job) and he likes eggs. once i start making eggs for him, i get a craving for them as well and always end up making them for me, too.
mel says
haha I’m the same way. I make b fast for my hubby every am and I used to make mine while making his and I would always end up craving eggs (his favorite) while I was stuck with my oatmeal. Or I would make him oatmeal and me something else and also have food envy. I’m so weird. It’s just easier to eat similiar b fasts!
Missy Desiree says
I really don’t understand people & their unability to be so cruel and unloving to animals. I mean how can you not love that face! I saw this on the news last night also though.

I die at that picture of Harper. I am OBSESSED with Weinaraners. So adorable!
mel says
I just watched the story and it’s actually a pit bull, the most wonderful breed of pups!! I have one so I’m biased. haha
Gen says
What an adorable puppy!!! Hope it continues to heal!
Shephalli says
Thanks for sharing this story. Harper is super adorable! I am partial to labs but I always feel they are the most overbred breed out there. Also love the eggs. I will make to make it this weekend.
Kari Burghardt says
Bless that litte puppy’s heart. Lord help the person who did that to her. <3

Shephalli says
Just realized it was a pit bull! It looks so like a lab 🙂
Krystina (Organically Me) says
There are some skeezy pup breeders around here. 🙁 What a poor pupup! I’d scoop him right up.
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
In the trashcan??? That makes me a crazy mix between heartbroken and ready to kick someone’s @$$! Harper is adorable and I’m so glad she was rescued!
Theresa says
that picture/story broke/melted my heart at the same time…animal cruelty really gets to me, i can never understand how people can truly be that horrible 🙁
your breakfast looks delicious, i’ve been meaning to try chicken sausage, is it any good? i once tried the morningstar sausage and i wasnt a fan, blech.
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Ugh, that story about the dog makes me SO angry! I don’t understand how someone could be so cruel as to throw a dog away. I’m so glad Harper was rescued! What a cutie!
Laurie says
Oh, what a sad story about Harper, I’m glad that woman saved her! There is no saving grace for that man that did that to her! I’m glad she is doing so well and walking! I don’t think it will be any problem of her being adopted!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
THAT PUPPY is adorable.
aaand regarding your “of possible interest” articles… I take Tabata TNT at my gym.. it’s fanTAStic. I’m always so sore after class!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Oh my gosh that is the saddest (and happiest) thing ever! I hope she recovers fully and gets a great home. Breeders can be so cruel!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I am SO glad Harper was saved!! What a cutie-pie! I hope a really nice, loving family adopts her! <3 Animal cruelty makes my heart hurt.
Oh and yes I always put milk in eggs! Milk and cheese make eggs wonderful!
Colleen @ Jimmy Choos on the Treadmill says
That’s so sad–poor puppy!
I used to make my eggs with a splash of milk, but now I usually just add liquid egg whites or nothing at all. Taste-wise, I don’t notice much of a difference, but I’ve found that the eggs become extremely runny and thin if you add too much milk.
Kristen @ Chocolate Covered Kristen says
I use either a splash of milk or a little water – the liquid paired with the beating adds to the fluff factor. Scrambles need fluff!
Animal cruelty stories break my heart. I’m glad this one may at least have a happy ending.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I hate stories like that, but this one had a great ending! That puppy is too cute! 🙂
To answer your egg question… I usually only add a splash when I make eggs, but my husband adds way more. I prefer the less is more approach when it comes to adding milk!
Ruthie Hart says
Oh my gosh I just got a frog in my throat. I would take that beautiful puppy in a heartbeat!
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
Poor puppy! I’m glad this story had a happy ending.
Katherine says
that puppy is the most adorable thing ever! So sad hearing about animal cruelty.
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
People can be so cruel. I can’t believe anyone would just throw out this sweet puppy with the trash. So sad.
I always add milk to my eggs because it makes them a little creamier.
Nicole @ Giraffelegs says
milk is a must when scrambling eggs!
Tiff @ Love Sweat and Beers says
Go Harper Go! It’s unbelievable what people can do. Animals have feelings tooooo! Haven’t they ever seen Disney movies or had loving pets??? Goodness!
peanutbutterfingers says
haha love the disney movie comment 🙂
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Omg that puppy is so cute! And I don’t understand how people can be so mean to animals!! It breaks my heart! Have you ever added orange juice to your eggs before?? It’s really good!
peanutbutterfingers says
no i haven’t! i should try that – sounds kind of crazy!
Heather@The World Through My Eyes says
That puppy is absolutely adorable! Did you hear the story about the cat that was from Boulder, CO and went missing 5 years ago? It just showed up a few weeks ago in Manhattan and they were able to reunite her with her original family thanks to a microchip. Most adorable story ever!
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! i blogged about willow last week! so crazy!! it’s like homeward bound or something. 🙂
RunEatRepeat says
I put milk in my eggs too! My mom always did 🙂
Janine says
I LOVE tabata!!! Best workout ever!
Alexis says
I add milk to my scrambled eggs!!! That’s so funny because last week I asked my boyfriend how he wanted his eggs and he said scrambled and I was like, well crap, we are out of milk! And he was so confused, “what do you need milk for?!?!”
stevie says
that makes me want to cry the thought of someone even thinking of throwing a poor animal in a trash bag. Such an innocent and helpless animal. People need think again when pondering the thought of getting dogs from breeders or pet stores. There are so many dogs that are homeless or abused that are in shelters. Especially high kill shelters. We are giving them power that they don’t deserve, animals should not be seen as money or a way to make a living.
Yolie @ Practising Wellness says
I spy evidence of a pre-breakfast muffin attack, lol! 😛 Your muffin on the left appears to be missing most of the innard dough, lol! 😉 Looks like a delicious breakfast though!
And what a great workout – I’m loving your workouts recently. I think wrote that in a recent comment too, but it is so true so I shall have to reiterate it. 😉 They’ve been helping my jumpstart my weight lifting sessions at the gym too – and that 100 squats thing is awesome! I tend to do two sets of 50 but I’m working up.
That puppy story is amaazing. bless. how terrible that someone would do that to an innocent dog, it breaks my heart, but I am so glad he is in safe hands now <3
xyx
peanutbutterfingers says
haha! caught!
Yolie @ Practising Wellness says
PS Nope – I never add milk!
Sara @ RunnerWife says
I just don’t understand how anyone could be so cruel to that beautiful face! 🙂
I love your mix up of workouts – hopefully once I am past my marathon I can mix mine up a bit too!
Shauna says
I do the same thing with my eggs! I splash of milks make the consistency of the eggs so much more yummy.
I need to up my workout lately so I’ll give yours a shot at the gym today. Love the blog!
peanutbutterfingers says
thanks shauna! i hope you like it!
Amanda says
omg that is insane i’d take that baby pup in a heart beat look at those EYES! aww… some breeders can be so cruel…
Faith says
Oh that sweet baby! I almost cried. I hurt so bad for animals that are treated so cruelly…I just can’t understand it. I pray that precious thing finds a wonderful forever home and lives a long and happy life.
I always put milk in my eggs. Makes them moist and more fluffy.
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
that puppy is too adorable!!!! And I’ll have to take a look at those cookies – they sound delicious!
Lauren @ Sassy Molassy says
Seriously, how could someone give up – attempt to kill a pup like that?!!! He is adorable! I love his coloring and blue eyes. Thank goodness he was found.
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
Omigosh that poor, poor puppy!! It’s so cute too, how could anyone do that? Hopefully it’s now getting the help it needs and maybe the media attention will lead to a loving family that wants to adopt him! And ooh pumpkin spice cookies? YUM!
Mandy Robinson says
Goes to show how horrible some can be and how generous others can be. I am going to have to try out the 100 squats. I always love a challenge – gotta push the limits!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
That’s so sad about the puppy!
Kristin @ STUFT Mama says
Poor poor puppy. 🙁 Thanks for the pumpkin cookie recipe. I jst clicked on that 4 minutes workout too. Something I’m going to have to try. 🙂
Kasey says
I am glad the puppy got a second chance. I have a soft spot when it comes to dogs.
I was reading your guest post and didn’t realize you had gotten married in Oct 2010. My husband and I just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary last Sunday. We will have been dating for 6 years on 11/11/11. I hope your marriage is going great.
peanutbutterfingers says
congratulations to you both! how exciting!
Katie says
I love Tabata workouts! I don’t really enjoying formal workouts, but if it only takes 4 minutes then I’m all game. 🙂
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
That puppy is absolutely adorable!
courtney says
What kind of breakfast sausage do you usually use?
Also, I’m IN LOVE with that little pup. Can’t imagine the type of person that could do this. Just another reminder to due your research when getting a new pup – that you are not purchasing from a place that feeds from puppy mills.
peanutbutterfingers says
i used alfresco country style chicken sausage. it’s delish!
Rebecca says
You should definitely try this recipe sometime soon if you like easy baking. Just use a box of cake mix (of your choice) mixed with A CAN of soda. And that’s it, I swear! Sooo good and moist and you can switch up flavors ridiculously easy, like a chocolate cherry coke cake or a vanilla grape one! It’s a weight watchers recipe I think.. Idk how it works, buts it’s amazing.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Those eggs look delicious. My parents usually added milk to our scrambled eggs at home, but when I make them for myself I’m lazy and just mash the egg all up (if I even take the time to scramble it in the first place…fried eggs ftw).
That puppy story is horrifying! I’m glad the dog will probably be okay, but man. I don’t understand how people can treat animals like they’re not living, breathing creatures.
Genie says
Oh my goodness, that just breaks my heart. I’m so glad baby Harper was saved! He looks so much like my Zoey did at that age. Cutie patootie puppies.
