As the afternoon turned into evening yesterday, my throat began feeling progressively worse.
When I woke up this morning, it was very sore.
Iām not nauseous or puking, but my throat hurts and my body feels tired. With the weather changing from warm to cold every other day, people are coming down with colds left and right.
Iām hoping that by taking the day off work, relaxing and taking care of myself, Iāll feel better soon. Cross your fingers!
Though I wasnāt that hungry this morning (<āwhat!?), I headed into the kitchen to fix myself a light breakfast anyway since I know food = good.
I know many doctors recommend the āBRAT dietā (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) for sickies, and decided to adhere to the plan and make myself some āTā in the form of a toasted sweet wheat Alternative Bagel. I spread cream cheese on both bagel halves and topped one with homemade cranberry sauce. I ate the whole thing like a champ.
Now itās time for a little of thisā¦With this little oneā¦
And now I pose this question for you, to give me inspiration for my next movie selectionā¦
What is your favorite movie to watch when you are feeling under the weather?
Elizabeth says
Oh dear, tis the season to be sick! My roommate got a stomach bug and I am being extra careful/paranoid because I’m taking the GRE tomorrow. Feel better!

Mimi says
I’m sorry you’re not feeling well! I LOVE Love Actually (especially during the holidays!) I’m not sure what other movies to suggest, though… Although I will second the Elf suggestion!
Morgan @Some Kind of Sunshine says
Love Actually is perhaps my most favorite movie of all time, but another good “sick” movie is The Holiday! LOVe!
Sarra says
Home alone 2…haha LOVE this movie, it never gets old!! And anything old school; nothing beats old school movies (and shows)
Jess says
I hope you feel better!! I’m sure snuggling with Sadie will help š My favorite movie to curl up to is The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law..lovelovelove.
Meg says
I hope you feel better, Julie! I’m sure Sadie, lots of hot tea, blankets and good holiday movies will make you feel A LOT better š
Taryn says
I am sick and taking the day off too!! Hope you feel better soon!!
Holly @ couchpotatoathlete says
I like to watch Disney movies when I am sick — they make me cry and somehow crying helps me feel better? Or maybe it is because I end up blowing my nose 1000000 times?
Feel better!
Anne says
You are where I was a week ago. It started with a really bad sore throat, peaked 2 days later with a fever of 101, then stuffy nose 2 days after that. FEEL BETTER!!
Jordan P says
Ah thank goodness you’ve got your girl to keep you company. Love Actually is definitely one of mine, but also Scrooged, a Muppet Christmas Carol, and The Nightmare Before Christmas always make me feel better.
Pixie says
I am sorry your sick, I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes taking the day off is just what you need. I watch “You Got Mail”. I have seen it hundreds of times, and can watch it back to back when it’s on TNT, as if I’ve never seen it before. It annoys my husband to no end.
Amanda - Small Home Big Start says
I’m home today too…because I’ve been snowed in. I was up visiting my parents for the weekend and when I woke up to drive back to work in Toronto this morning it was a mess. Car doors frozen. Roads iced over. Buses delayed. 2 hour wait for CAA. My little brother had to drive his snowmobile to get to high school today (which I’m sure that he loved anyways).
So, I’m staying home today too and hanging out with sister and the dogs watching holiday movies š We’re watching The Family Stone, Muppet Family Christmas and The Family Man today.
Morgan @ Becoming Rooks says
I’m sorry you are sick! I’m feeling under the weather, too – combination migraine and too much snow! I love watching Love, Actually when I am home. I also like Confessions of a Shopaholic or Legally Blonde!
Kt says
“First Knight”…. not sure why! Or the House Bunny.
Stephanie @ The Cookie Battle says
Eek! A sore throat is how my illness last week started out. Rest rest rest!
My fav movie when I’m sick is Pretty Woman. Or Dirty Dancing. Actually I could watch either one anytime.
Christina says
Hello! I have been reading your blog for the last week, and am finally getting the urge to comment! My favorite movies for feeling under the weather are “You’ve Got Mail” and “The Devil Wears Prada” they always cheer me up.

Or you could always watch a classic–Titanic or Sweet Home Alabama š
Lauren says
I always watch Friends DVD’s when I’m home sick!
Lucy says
Roman Holiday without a doubt! I mean if Gregory Peck doesn’t make you feel better than nothing will haha. Audrey Hepburn is fantastic as well of course, I love her growth in that movie, she comes out so strong at the end. Have you watched it before? If not you must! Feel better.
KitKat @ Pursuit of Happiness says
Bridget Jones’s Diary! Haha or actually when I felt sick last week I watched Eclipse… š
Feel better!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I adore watching the Lifetime Movie Network when I’m sick.
And hey, remember, try to stay away from the lactose! Dairy products create mucus which can cause more mucus to drain from your sinuses and down your throat… which = more soreness.
I’m a champ when it comes to sinus problems. I get allergy shots weekly and get a bi-annual sinus infection when the seasons change. š
Merri says
Any Meg Ryan movie…esp. Sleepless in Seattle or When a Man Loves A Woman!
xxoo Feel Better š
Mer
Mary & Christina (Sisters Running the Kitchen) says
Like another reader said, I love to watch Friend’s DVD’s. I have been wanting to watch Elf since I haven’t seen it this season yet…so I would have gone with Elf! I think I’ll have to watch that next week when I bake cookies! Feel better soon!

At least you have a cozy day ahead of you, but sorry you don’t feel well. I’m dying to watch Love Actually- one of my favorite holiday movies for sure!!
I also like The Holiday, ELF, Christmas vacation, and many, many more š
Jamie @ Food in Real Life says
Good job getting in the antioxidants too! Cranberries are a great source. I also think it’s nice of you to take off of work. I hate when people come into the office all sick and contagious! LOL.
I’m a huge Christmas vacation fan. I could watch it over and over again. But my favorite movie to watch when I am lazy all day is Mean Girls. (not holiday although they do a x-mas dance, right?)
Feel better Julie!
Ashley from Texas says
Oh and Friends. That’s another good show to watch when you’re sick.
Ashley from Texas says
If you get the abc family channel, you should try watching that tonight if you’re still sick and in a Christmas mood. I’ve spent practically this entire weekend watching that channel so I don’t go too crazy studying for finals. When I’m sick, I really like to rewatch my old seasons of Gilmore Girls.
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
i absolutely LOVE “Love Actually”! and i really like any Christmas or holiday movie when i’m sick…even in the middle of summer! just makes me feel cozy and like everything’s going to be OK…
Lauren says
How to lose a guy in 10 days or sweet home alabama.. I love those two, and they always cheer me up if I’m sick.
Erin says
This is embarrassing, but I like to watch old TV shows on DVD or Netflix instant streaming when I am sick. I was sick this past weekend and had to miss a bunch of holiday parties, but I spent my time on the couch with old 80s and 90s TV shows to keep me occupied. There is something about them that is comforting to me. I hope you feel better soon!
Shanna says
Oh no! Feel better š
How about Home Alone? Aaahhhhhh
Angela says
This time of year, I love to watch Christmas movies when I’m tired or not feeling well. My son and I watched “Santa Baby” last night. So cute! I highly recommend it. Feel better soon!

Hope says
I hope you feel better!! I love watching Love Actually. I really like watching 27 Dresses, The Holiday, or any other girlie movie š
Heidi says
I highly suggest Playing By Heart. It has a huge cast, but never really made it big for some reason. I just love the story line, but you have to watch it all the way through. It’s awesome!
Kendall says
The Time Traveler’s Wife, The Princess Diaries, or the Devil Wears Prada are all on the list for sick movies.
And with it being the holidays, you can’t forget Elf! š

I’m sorry you’re feeling sick–definitely a sign of the season! I have to agree with everyone’s suggestions (I LOVE Love Actually, the Holiday, and Home Alone) but another one I absolutely adore is Two Weeks Notice. If you’re in the mood for a little more Hugh after Love Actually, and are as obsessed with Sandra Bullock as I am, I highly suggest it.
Hope you feel better soon!!
Kelly says

Corey @ the runners cookie says
