I know this may sound a little lame, but Ryan and I have a good time running errands together. Yesterday we spent the day out and about in Ocala and ended up discovering the biggest pizza in town in the process. Not a bad way to end the day!
Our first errand took us to Plato’s Closet, a clothing resale shop. I took a cue from The Happiness Project and went through my winter clothes earlier in the week to clear out sweaters and other warm-weather gear that I didn’t wear this season. We were told it would take them 45 minutes to go through my stuff and since Plato’s Closet is located in a strip mall, Ryan and I had no trouble wasting time while we waited.
While Ryan got a haircut, I browsed around in TJMaxx. You know I never struggle to find things I like in that store!
Isn’t that dress adorable? Sadly it looked 10 times better on the hanger than it did on me, so it was a no-go.
In the end, I bought a navy lace top that I thought was really cute.
And some chocolate!
My family and I fell in love with Baci chocolate when we were in Italy a couple of years ago and I couldn’t resist. Chocolate and hazelnut is a winning combination in my book!
When we popped back into Plato’s Closet, I was pumped when they offered me $30 for my clothes! I usually feel lucky to get $10, so $30 felt like a big-time score.
Before heading home for the evening, Ryan and I had a Groupon o use and stopped into Brooklyn’s Original Pizzeria.
My meal began with a Greek salad.
And then the feast began.
Check out our pizza!
It was massive and absolutely delicious.
We also ordered some wings in Brooklyn sauce that I surprisingly liked an awful lot! When it comes to wings, I’m usually rather indifferent, but these were fantastic!
I ate two and a half pieces of pizza and a bunch of wings and went home feeling full and happy.
A simple Saturday!
I’ll be back soon with a race recap of today’ trail run. It was a blast!
Question of the Afternoon
- Is there a place that sells giant pizza around you?
When I was in college, Lazy Moon was the go-to place for GIANT pizza!
Annie says
Julie have you lost weight? You’re looking good!
That pizza is a monster!!
Katie R says
Oh my goodness, that looks like pizza heaven!!
Anna {Herbivore Triathlete} says
Holy cow, that is one LARGE pizza! Can’t wait to hear about the trail run.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
What a fantastic Saturday!
That is a bummer about the dress because it is TOO cute, but I think that your navy lace top is even better! 🙂
That pizza looks AMAZING!! You can never have too much pizza, am I right? 😉
Emily @SinfulNutrition says
Yum! I could go for a big slice of pizza right about now! I’m sure you’ve answered this already, but I was curious how you pronounce Ocala? I keep saying Oh-Kah-Lah in my head, but I feel like this is “I’m not from around here” wrong. Haha. Just curious how you actually pronounce it. Thanks!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
oh-cal-ah! 🙂
Anna Lynn says
Pizza is one of the those things that once I start eating, I never want to stop! The plaza Lazy Moon was in got knocked down back in December and it’s in the process of relocating down University. I saw them put the sign up about a week ago so that means giant pizza slices will be back soon hopefully! I’ve missed that place! I hope the restaurant’s charm doesn’t die with the new store.
Tayler says
You must live by UCF too. I live right across the street from where they are building the new Lazy Moon. I can’t wait for them to re-open!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
oh no!!! i didn’t know about that! i hope it returns with a vengeance!
Katie @ Bevo Loves an Aggie says
I love running errands with my husband, too! 🙂 I’m going to have to try to sell to Plato’s…I always see them, but have never taken anything there.
We live near this cute little “Italian” restaurant with the biggest, best pizza! Sooooo good!
Lauren says
Omg that pizza looks amazing! I hope it tasted just as good as it looked. Also that dress is adorable! But the shirt is just as cute.
Georgia-Mae says
THAT PIZZA JUST MADE ME SO HUNGRY!!! I think I may have to order one for myself tonight…hmmm…
Michelle@Peachy Palate says
We have a takeaway that does a pizza called a wagon wheel which is 20 inch and then there is the mega wagon wheel which is 26 inches! It’s hard to get it through the door!
Andrea Merrigan says
That is a huge pizza!!! I need to go through my closet and take my clothes in, maybe I’ll go clean out the closet right now:)
Amanda says
I love that you went to sell some clothes and brought some in the process. I would do the same thing. As soon as I clean out extra junk from my closet, I end up filling it right back up!
Britt @ Fit Fit Britt Britt says
LAZY MOON! Oh wow, I had forgotten about that place! Lots of good memories from UCF! I remember some of my Chi O sisters and I would bring those over to the Phi Delts and hang out!
Around here, there aren’t many GIANT pizza places :/ Oh the joys of small town living 😛
Corinna says
I’m so jealous that your Plato’s Closet allows you to drop off your clothes and come back later. The one in my town requires that you stay there and I’m never able to because the wait is way too long!
Christine says
Where did you put all that food, you’re so tiny!? That food looked amazing! I need to find a place like Plato’s closet in the Boston area. I have so much clothing that I no longer wear!
Amy @ Writing While Running says
Yesterday, my two running friends and I went to a running expo after our run and were starved by the time we were done. We found a 16″ 2-topping pizza for $15 just a half mile from my house. That thing was gone in 15 minutes flat. We were hungry.
Makenzie says
excited to hear about your trail run!!!! I bet it was a blast 🙂 trails beat the treadmill every day haha
Sharan says
There’s a place on campus that sells gigantic pizzas. You can buy it by the slice or by the entire pie. I’m kind of annoyed though because when I was a freshman slices used to be $2.50 and about 25% larger, whereas now it’s $2.75 and smaller. These things matter when you’re a student, ha!
Taryn says
The biggest pizza in Charleston is definitely Andolini’s. The pies are massive, so the slices that come out of them are huge, too. For $5, you can get 2 slices and a PBR. Pretty sweet deal haha.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
That is a monstrous pizza! I’m sure you had a lot of good leftovers!
Avery @ Southern Belle Living Well says
Pizza!! Yum! I’m sure ya’ll enjoyed it!
Elizabeth says
Ok, so no judging. WE LOVE WalMart pizza! Are you familiar? Its the store brand that they sell in the deli. I love it. It is non greasy but loaded with toppings. I think its called Market Fresh. It freezes well too–which is great. Have a great day! e
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
After a night of drinking last weekend in D.C., my friend took me to JumboSlice in Foggy Bottom. It took up TWO PAPER PLATES. Biggest slice of pizza ever. Happily devoured.
AmandA says
I had a slice from there the night of my bachelorette party! Don’t remember eating it, but the picture was pretty funny 🙂
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
My favorite giant pizza is giant all over, not just around…Lou Malnati’s deep dish! But their salad is by far the best thing ever!
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
THAT is my kinda pizza! Man, oh man I would love to try that! I can’t say I’ve had any really huge pizza recently. There is actually a place right near me that advertizes a 19″ 3 pound pizza. We got it once, and it wasn’t that great, but definitely huge.
Sharsti@theblondehairblueeyedrunner says
NYPD Pizza down the street from me sells huge pizzas. They are delicious and bring a little NY style to UT.
Jane says
I just came back from a semester abroad in Bologna, Italy. We went to the Perugia chocolate festival one weekend and Baci was everywhere! I was addicted =]]]
I also had the best pizza while I was there (naturally), it was a carbonara pizza the size of a tire. No exaggeration. But it’s super easy to replicate, basically pancetta, parmesan and cracked pepper, but the key is the egg. They just scramble some eggs and pour it over the uncooked crust and the WHOLE thing goes in the oven!
Kelly says
We love Brooklyn’s pizza, but their tomato capresse is one of the best in Ocala. If you get a chance go downtown to Pi for great pizza.
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny says
Andrew and I always talk about leaving NY – we’ll either settle somewhere in Florida or Charleston, SC. How’s the pizza down there – is Brooklyn Pizza real Brooklyn pizza? Pizza and bagels are the two things I think I’d miss most about living in NY!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Oh man! That pizza looks INSANE! The only pizza I can eat is homemade (with dairy-free cheese) or cheese-free if we order out, so pizza always looks so good to me! 🙂
Jan @ J Cooks Healthy says
Yummy that’s pizza looks delicious!
I hate it when things look better on the hanger than on you. But sometimes it definitely saves the wallet 🙂
Babs says
The pizza in Melbourne is a far cry from the pizza I’m used to, and I’m not a big fan of most pizza places here. The best big pizza was Lorenzo’s in Philly (but I heard it burned down). Adams Morgan in DC also has giant slices. And I love pizza slices from the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. The pizzas here are so much smaller than pizzas in the States. In fact, when my MIL came over to visit us when we were living in the States she actually laughed out loud when we ordered delivery pizza and she saw the size of a large pizza. Oh how I miss good pizza (although there is place here called +39 which isn’t too bad)
Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad says
That meal looks so good! I love TjMaxx.
Andrea @Pencils and Pancakes says
I love how Marshalls/TJ Maxx always has these weird and surprising food finds!
Becky @ TheBexFactor says
I took a bunch of stuff to Platos Closet this weekend too. I got $40 which was totally surprising to me, I’m lucky to get $10.
Stephanie Abbott says
GIRL! You have shop so much!! I wish I could do that 🙂 Lucky ducky!
Stephanie Abbott says
deleted that *have* (??)
Allison says
Sounds like a great day! That is definitely a huge jackpot for Plato’s Closet. A place by me sells a pizza so big that you need to turn it on its side to get it into the backseat of your car!
Katie says
My boyfriend and I love to run errands together too… Some friends think its weird. We actually have a lot of fun doing tedious things together, it makes them better. That pizza is massive! When I was in college we went to a pizzeria called Balzano’s. The slices were larger than your average paper plate, and were the tastiest things in the world. Thanks for sending me down memory lane.. 🙂
Jessica says
My husband proposed to me at a local pizza place called College Town Pizza. It’s where we had our first date. They have huge pies there as well. Our favorite is the Puttanesca. It’s spicy and I love the taste of the minced anchovies in the sauce.
Denise says
That pizza looks amazing! Must try next time we are that way!
Jen says
Hi Julie ,
When you wrote running errands with you husband might be lame, it made me smile. My husband and I have been together for 19 years and we still love running errand together. Now that our son is in high school and doesn’t always want to hangout with us, we have more time together doing things we did when we were young. Always remember the fun you and Ryan are having now and hold onto it throughout your marriage.
: )
Heather @fitncookies says
That looks so good! Pizza is my weakness; I could probably eat it everyday! Sadly, no place sells giant pizzas around us! What a bummer, I could go for some!
Bek @ Crave says
Shit! That’s huge haha. Sounds like a great day- looking forward to hear about the race 🙂
Khushboo says
OMG I forgot about Baci…grew up on that stuff…so yummy especially and I loved the messages in each choc – do they still do it??
Danielle @ Truffles n' Treadmills says
Downtown there is a pizza place called Pint n Slice and it has huge slices!
Lauren says
In San Antonio we have big Lou’s. 42″ pizza!!!! Ridiculous! It’s been on food network. Oh and it’s tasty too!
Nicole says
Nice job on the trail run!
We’ve got a favorite pizza place that makes wood-fire pizza–delicious!
Megan says
That pizza looks awesome!! I have yet to find a pizza place in DC I love. Rochester NY in my opinion has the besst pizza ever at Pontillos, SO GOOD!
Jenn says
I don’t know about a giant pizza… but I did once order a calzone that was the size of a giant pizza. It was a happy accident.
