Good morning! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
I was fully immersed in family fun and loved every minute of it.
Last night, Ryan and I watched an episode of Modern Family where the whole Dunphy family unplugs and steps away from cell phones and computers. With the exception of publishing two blog posts, I felt completely unplugged this weekend and it was glorious.
But now it’s time to plug back in. Hello, Monday!
Workout
I tackled the 100 squat challenge at the gym again bright and early this morning, but increased by weight to 85 pounds (total). I had to break up the 100 squats into one set of 60, followed by one set of 30 and a final set of 10.
My legs were burning and I hope I can walk tomorrow and don’t end up looking like this dog:
(Fast forward to 0:30. I love the guy’s laugh!)
I rounded out my leg workout by completing three sets of 15 repetitions of one-legged leg press, deadlifts and lunges before doing some ab work. It was a fast but effective workout!
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was peanut buttery!
I microwaved 3/4 cup of oatmeal with about one cup of 2 percent milk until the oats were soft and the milk was basically soaked up.
I then added a big spoonful of peanut butter – the key to deliciousness!
I love when the peanut butter starts to melt and I can swirl it into the oats. Mmm.
The Chipmunks
This morning as I was typing up this blog post, I was blaring my favorite Pandora station.
“Leader of the Pack” by The Shangri-Las came on and though I love this song, I cannot help but think of The Chipmunks version of the song whenever I hear it.
“Betty, is that Alvin’s ring you’re wearing?”
Classic.
I had one of The Chipmunks’ tapes when I was younger and still associate their high pitched voices with several classic songs, including:
- “Beat It” by Michael Jackson
- “Express Yourself” by Madonna
- “Wooly Bully” by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs
Did you know that The Chipmunks actually had a number one song on the Billboard charts in the United States at one time? "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)" (aka the song where Alvin sings “Me, I want a huuuuula hoop!”) reached the number one spot in 1958.
Random facts you never needed to know, brought to you by Peanut Butter Fingers.
Question of the Morning
- Did you ever listen to The Chipmunks? Do you associate any popular songs with their squeaky little voices?
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was a kid. I was actually listening to some of the songs from the second Chipmunks movie with my son last night and he was loving em. He’s a second generation Alvin lover in the making!
Megan says
I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks! Wooly Bully is definitely one of the ones that I will always think of in chipmunk tone. The movie The Chipmunk Adventure was my favorite when I was little.
Andrea @ Andrea Out Loud! says

Oh my gosh. Every year around Christmas time my dad will proceed to sing Alvin’s part of that Christmas song and he does it just like him that it kills your ears because of the high pitch. It’s one of my favorite Christmas songs!
I actually remember watching their TV show when I was little.
lisa@thedailyrundown says

I kick off EVERY Christmas with that song! It’s still kind of my favorite and it never feels like the Christmas season until I blast that from my Mom’s kitchen as loud as it will go. Gotta keep it loud enough to cover up my singing!
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
The Chipmunks always make me think of Christmas. My aunt always includes them in her Christmas mix that we listen to on repeat all day. My cousins and I always complain when the chipmunks come on… But of course we sing along.

Like some one else said, I always think of Woolly Bully as being a Chipmunks song because of the Chipmunk Adventure. I used to love that movie!
I wonder if I can leave work early to go home and watch that. Sure, I’ve only been here half an hour, but I’m sure everyone can agree this is MUCH more important.
Lindsey @ Happy or Hungry says
Oh man, I used to love the Leader of the Pack Chipmunks version! I like it better than the original, for sure. I used to have the record!!! haha.
Sara @ The Foodie Diaries says
Glad you unplugged this weekend! I unplugged from technology (except for my camera!) when I went to NYC for the weekend. Boy oh boy do I love that city! My friend goes to NYU and told me how James Franco actually teaches a class there AND she saw Dakota Fanning walking around one day. Unfortunately I didn’t see any celebrities, BUT I had a great weekend 🙂
Oh and the Chipmunks RULE.
Krystina (Organically Me) says
I absolutely LOVE The Chipmunks! The cartoon was one of my favorites growing up, and I love all their movies (aka the cartoon ones, not the new CG ones that are total rubbish).

I had the Chipmunk’s Christmas album (record) and played it over and over and over as a kid….
Lena @ Fit on the Rocks says
I used to love the Chipmunks 🙂 I definitely associate Beat It and various Christmas songs with them. I also enjoyed sucking up helium when I was younger (healthy, I know) so that I could sing like them hahaha. Thank goodness I still have brain cells, I think.

Also, my sisters and I used to use the voice recorder on the computer, sing a song really slow, then click the button that sped it up so it sounds super high pitched like the chipmunks! lol

Love the Chipmunks!
But the one song I always associate with little voices is The Muppet Babies singing “Crocodile Rock”. Fozzie’s part was the “wah, wah wah wah wah, waaaaahhhh!” It’s hysterical, in my opinion. 🙂
