Wanna know something I think about regularly?
I wish Sadie had the ability to bake.
And clean.
(Sorry for that one, but it’s true. She’s had lots of practice.)
Sadie seriously looks at me with eyes that always seem to want to be involved. I’m convinced she’d be the most helpful little apprentice in all the land if only she had thumbs.
Unfortunately Sadie’s helpfulness was at an all-time low this evening, so dinner was left to me and Ryan.
Meatball subs!
We made meatball subs topped with lots of shredded cheese and served them with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts and sautéed onions.
The Brussels sprouts were just not cutting it for me today. (They were severely underseasoned. As they say on Cupcake Wars, I was underwhelmed. <—What is that? Seriously.)
I thought I was in the mood for the Brussels sprouts as they were roasting, but after eating about five bites, I was over ‘em. The cheesy meatball sub, however, went down just fine.
Time to put up the Christmas tree!!!
Question of the Evening
- If your pet could do one pain-in-the-butt thing for you daily, what would you have them do?
Mallory says
hahaha your comment is so funny – they do use that term a lot on cupcake wars!
and it makes me think of 10 things i hate about you. “i know you can be overwhelmed..and you can be underwhelmed…but can you ever just be whelmed?”
peanutbutterfingers says
it drives me crazy! they say it ALL THE TIME!
Meg @RunRideLove says
“I think you can in Europe….”
Oh goodness do I love that movie. My brother and I can quote every line (and often to!). He is in college, and his favorite right now to quote whenever he get’s frustrated is “SHIT Bianca, I’m shooting a nosespray add tomorrow!”
Catherine says
I wish you could ‘like’ comments on blogs! I love this!
Stef says
I immediately thought of 10 Things!!! Great movie. I’m often just “whelmed”
Melissa says
Oh my goodness, I love this! I am constantly thinking that Pancake should be a housekeeper with his ba-donk-a-donk tail! He’s always whipping that thing around like nobody’s business, and literally wiping things off in the process!
peanutbutterfingers says
it’s official: i want to name dog #2 pancake. 🙂
Melissa says
sometimes the people at his doggy daycare refer to him as Waffles 🙂
Shannon says
Your dog is a cutie pie! I wanna snuggle her! I wish my dogs would do the laundry but one apparently likes to do nothing but lie around and the other barks at trashcans!
Meatball sub sounds yummy! And I LOVE brussel sprouts!
Jamie @ Don't Forget The Cinnamon says
“So you can be underwhelmed, and you can be overwhelmed, but can you ever just be…whelmed?” Name that movie!
peanutbutterfingers says
ha! see comment #1! 😀
Sabrina @ Coffee With Sabrina says
HAHA! Laundry! And keep my shoes organized inside my closet.
Kelly says
That first picture of Sadie is my favorite ever!
peanutbutterfingers says
she does a good job of making herself look like the most feeble thing on the planet.
Leslie says
Aww, I think the SAME thing about my little dog, Freddie Mercury, too! Sometimes I wish he was a real boy and he could help me measure things in the kitchen…oh, fur babies! 🙂
Amanda says
Grab a drink (or anything for that matter) for me when I don’t feel like getting off the couch… for all the days my laziness sets in!
mel says
haha this is so funny…and so much like my dogs. They are always up in my business, esp when I am in the kitchen. I turn around and basically step on them because they are hovering. When I have to pee, they escort me to the bathroom and lick my legs (weird I know) and when my husband and I have ‘our” time, they both wine outside of the shut door then come investigate. I laugh at least 30 times a day becasue my dogs are so weird, yet wonderful!
I’m the same way about certain foods…I feel like I really want them, then when I start eating them they make me gag. I don’t know why this is but it drives me crazy!
Lauren says
I wish Hoosh (short for Hoosier – couldn’t stop the hubby) could do the dishes or fold/put away laundry for me. I wish for a laundry fairy and/or dish elf on a daily basis.
Catherine says
Too bad about the brussels! I’ve been brusseling A LOT lately. I was in part inspired by your blog too! I like to steam them in the microwave. They are just soooo good!
Julie says
I think I would definitely choose cleaning the kitchen or even just doing the dishes. That way my husband and I could just relax after dinner! Love the look of these subs, by the way – I doubt I would be underwhelmed by them. 🙂 Do you make your own meatballs, or do you have a suggestion for a store-bought brand?
Chantal says
I would have my dogs deep clean the floors daily (vacuuming carpet and steam cleaning the hard floors). It’s so hard to keep the floors clean with two dogs so it would be lovely if they would just keep them clean themselves! 🙂
Jill @ A Cook's Nook says
I have 2 dogs as well & I would love it if they could vacuum my house- they shed like freaks!
Chantal says
I know!!! One of mine is a German Shepherd mix and they shed like CRAZY!
Amanda @FancyOatmeal says
I think that Sadie would be an excellent drink refilled/retriever. She just seems so eager =) I only have a cat named Barry. I think that she would love to help cook as well. She always perches herself on the one stool in the kitchen WHENEVER someone enters the room.
Lily says
I would have them clean their own litter boxes and fold the laundry…instead they just lay on it once I have folded it.
Miriam says
I wish my dog could find things that I am loosing around the house in a blink of an eye, just by asking her : no need to let her snif anything! That would be awesome!! 🙂
Kat @ Balance & Spice says
We don’t have a dog yet. But when we do, the dog will take me for a run, instead of the other way around. I won’t have to think about it, and the pooch won’t listen to my complaining. I’ll just get dressed, and the dog would run me along at the determined pace for five miles or so, and not stop until the run was finished.
Or, I could use a treadmill, I guess.
Can’t wait to run with Chewbacca in Australia! (Never thought I’d type that sentence.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Haha – I love the captions on the Sadie photos! I wish our dogs could fold the laundry. Both my husband and I hate it, so it’d help tremendously if our two labs would pitch in. 😉
Great idea on the meatball subs for dinner! I don’t know why I’ve never thought of making them for dinner, but I know my husband would love them.
Alex @ Healthy Life Happy Wife says
I always wish that Freckles could take herself out to go to the bathroom at 6am when it’s cold out so I wouldn’t have to get out of bed…either that or grab me a beer from the fridge when I am too lazy to get off the couch 😉
Wow…I sound like a bum! Haha!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Ahhh that made me think of the line in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You: “I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?”
J @ ... semplicemente j ... says
I guess I would love Dante to get me things when I need them … he has tons of energy so that would not be taking advantage of him, would it? 🙂
Kate says
I would have the cats clean the litter box, and the dogs fold laundry! However, the roles are reversed and my dogs want to “clean” the litter box, and the cats would rather sleep on the clean clothes!
Oh well! Let me know if you ever train Sadie to help you bake, she may need to teach my dogs 🙂
Lena @Fit on the Rocks says
I wish my dog could clean. He does kind of look like a feather duster, but isn’t too helpful lol.
Melissa says
I would have to choose scrubbing toilets! I hate that! I too love your Sadie!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I would have my dogs pick up after themselves when they go outside!! That would be really nice!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I would have my pet unload the dishwasher—hate that chore!!! hah.
Lauren says
That second caption is hilarious 🙂 you are funny! I wish my cat could pack lunches for my husband and I, nice healthy lunches. I always mean to pack them at night, but it seldom happens – if tiggy could do that while I ran or got ready we’d be all set,
Kirsten says
Julie,
I just took a spin class with your Dad!! We had a nice chat afterwards about your blog, St. Pete, and all that good stuff. He is really proud of all the races you’re running and the positive influence you have on others! He told me to post on your blog that we talked so here I am 🙂
-Kirsten
Kirsten says
OH and he also wanted me to tell you about how awesome he was in class! Hahaha. Yup, he killed it.
peanutbutterfingers says
he called me right after he talked to you! so cool!!! 🙂 glad you said hello. you made him feel like a million bucks!
willrunforfryoyo says
Those Brussels sprouts look so good! I’ve never thought to add sauteed onions. Thanks for the great dinner suggestion. 🙂
Kaelin says
I always tell my dog who is usually curled up on the couch with her head on the pillow to “clean up while I am gone” when I leave for work. She looks at me and wags her tail. I bet she would if she could….
My cats on the other hand… they have no interest in the work of domestication.
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
DEFINITELY take out the garbage. our garbage cans are maybe 12 feet from the house, but you would swear it was 12 miles the way i complain about it!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Mmmm pass your Brussels sprouts over here! I’ve been craving them but for some reason keep forgetting to buy them at the store. I went out for lunch yesterday and had some and they were the best thing ever…I want more!
Colleen says
Great topic!! We have 3 indoor pets and everyday when we leave for week I verbally give them a to-do list of house chores that need to be completed during the day. It’s yet to happen….haha!
Colleen says
Work, not week!
Joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
Sadie’s dialogue bubbles always crack me up! Hmm, if I had a pet, i’D say take out the trash or unload the dishwasher!
Faith @ For the Health of It says
I’d make Haley mop – I HATE it with a passion! Maybe I could coat the floors in peanut butter and let her lick it all up…along with the dirt!
Candice says
You guys seem to use lots of hot dog buns when you cook stuff. Do you just really like them??
Lindsey says
Love meatball subs!
I would get my cat to do laundry! I am not fan of it at all.
Jon @elements2lead says
I bet she is a great helper. Her second picture says, “hey mom, I am right here. What do you need? Helloooooo.” Brooks does that too although he is usually lobbying for some food. I think Sadie needs to do a guest post for you!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
That would be awesome. I’m pretty sure my dog wouldn’t do anything though. All he wants is his belly scratched. I’d have him put away my clothes. I always let them sit in the basket for days! Bad habit!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
emptying the dishwasher! Hate that chore.
love the butthole comment. So true, so disgusting.
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Mmmmm looooooovvveee meatball subs. I haven’t had one in way too long.
Heather H. @ Run Eat Play says
Well, I’d have my dog do pretty much everything. That would be nice. If I had to pick one thing, I’d pick cooking. I like to cook but it would be nice to have someone cook for me for a change!
Laura@mypurposefullife says
I would love Mocha to change my sheets and do my laundry! Those are my two least favorite chores of all time. What a fun question! P.S. Meatball subs are my favorite sub hands down, and now I cannot stop thinking about them. 🙂 Yours looks too good!
Carrie says
Hands down…I would have my dog clean the house!
Dani @ Dani Delicatessen says
hahaha i feel the same way about my cat—today i actually told him “i wish you spoke human” through his meows i knew he was trying to say something
Amy says
first of all, i need a dog. secondly, i need him to do dishes (we don’t have a dishwasher). that would be AWESOME
Heather@Just a Colorado Gal says
I wish Tally would take herself outside–that’s it! I live in an apartment sans yard, and sometimes (like now, when it’s dumping snow and there is at least 6″ on the ground!) I wish she would just trot outside, do what she needs to do, and let herself back in. That would be AWESOME!!!!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
hahah omgsh the captions made me laugh so much! They always go perfectly with her facial expressions too. IF I had a dog, I’d make him/her clean too. 😛
Lindsay says
Fun question! I wish my dog could unload the dishwasher, organize my closet and pump my gas. Is that too much to ask?! 😉
