2011 kicked off with a bang up breakfast! I couldn’t decide whether or not I wanted eggs or waffles this morning, so I wend for both!
I had two whole wheat frozen waffles paired with a dippy egg and a slice of Canadian bacon for some protein.
The weather today is absolutely beautiful, so Ryan and I ate our morning meals outside while Sadie played around in our backyard, before discovering that we had food.
Then she sat in front of us, willing us to throw her a piece of meat.Since Ryan and I are both huge suckers, it didn’t take too long for us to give in to those eyes.
All three of us enjoyed this breakfast!
Workout
Once our bellies were full, we hung out on the couch for a while as I drank lots of water and willed a nagging headache away. I really didn’t drink that much last night, but I woke up feeling very thirsty and figured I was likely dehydrated.
Ryan then pulled me off the couch and talked me into going on a walk with him and Sadie. The fresh air helped my headache, and after our one-mile walk I felt okay enough to head to the gym.
I kept things nice and easy with 50 minutes of cardio on the elliptical while flipping through People magazine and watching a special on Taylor Swift on E! I love celeb gossip. 😀
The Start of the Games
As Ryan and I walked home, we couldn’t stop talking about how beautiful it was outside! We decided to take advantage of the weather and lay around in our backyard some more while reading The Hunger Games. We’re only about 30 pages in and it’s already pretty interesting! You guys may be on to something…
Lunch
Lunch today was simple turkey sandwiches that eluded any photographs. I actually ate mine while standing up in the kitchen and prepping parsnip fries!Oh I love these little fries so much! I ate 2x the amount pictured. They’re so good!
Now Ryan and I are hanging out with Sadie and our friend Daniel for a bit before I head into the kitchen to prep some vegetarian chili for tonight. I’m heading over to my friend Merri’s house for a laid-back birthday celebration in comfy clothes with comfort food.
Lata!
What a beautiful start to 2011!
I love parsnip fries! The inside has the texture and the flavor is so close to a potatoes.
Oh, please post the chili recipe. I’ve been searching for a good one!!
Parsnip fries are delicious! I love most roasted vegetables!
I love it when people talk about books that are really interesting. I’m always looking for a good book but I’m hard to please. I will definitely have to check this one out if you continue to say that it’s worth the read.
Ok I am now heading into the kitchen to make some fries too.. not parsnip ones but still! You’ve inspired me 😛
I would be an annoying person to read with as I read soooooooooo slow! Reading with others makes me uneasy haha
We ARE on to something- it is a fascinating read (with a super weird story line- kinda morbid and freaky) but it IS captivating. Those meals look tasty btw….I skipped breakfast time because my husband and I didn’t wake up until 12….whoops! 😉
Loved The Hunger Games! I hope you do too! 🙂
Ooh parsnip fries…new craving! 🙂
I loved the Hunger Games! I’m sure you will too!
You’re lucky to have such nice weather! Over here it is absolutely rainy and foggy 🙁
You totally just motivated ME to go for a walk!
and your waffle looks extra whole wheat!
Love that pic of Sadie!
Everyone thinks we spoil our dog when we give her a little of our food!
HEY! they are too cute to deny!
Sounds like an amazing way to start off the year!
And Sadie’s adorable… You knew that, right?
The cutest pet ever. I mean, she’s also you’re running buddy! How awesome is that?!
Hope you’re having a great January 1st.
Again – Happy New Year, Julie!
xoxo
Hmmmm I keep hearing things about that book. I may need to read it! 🙂
I loved the whole Hunger Games series! Hope you like it!
I am about to start reading that series! I heard it was awesome!
How do you guys read together? Do you read aloud or take turns or something like that?
It gets even more interesting towards the end. (Just listened to a little more today)
we take turns reading aloud.
Sounds awesome!
Sounds like good eats today! Enjoy your night 🙂

Just found your blog and I’m already in love! Can’t wait to read more 🙂
Yum I really want to try some parsnip fries! By the way I totally thought those were chocolate waffles when I first saw this post 🙂
After my 30 day raw eating adventure I’m making these parsnip fries! I keep seeing them everywhere and I’m a sucker for any veggie that tricks me into think I’m eating a *fry*. 🙂
Hi Julie! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I’ve never left a comment, so I thought it would be a good idea to do so now that I have a blog of my own. I really, really enjoy your recipes and your upbeat personality! It’s refreshing to read every day 🙂
thanks for commenting! also, congrats on starting a blog!
Ohhh I love parsnip fries!!! In fact, I love doing that to all sorts of veggies. Have you ever tried rutubaga fries?!?! or Sweet potatoe fries?!! Oh my yumminess… I don’t know why people don’t just save the money/gas and do this at home instead of stop by McDonald’s. If they only knew how easy it was…
rutabaga fries are my fav!
I’m glad that you are liking the Hunger Games! It’s sort of difficult to explain what it’s about. When I told my husband about the books he was weirded out. I haven’t had parsnip fries but I love sweet potato fries or baby carrot fries. Mmmm!
My Fiance and I LOVED The Hunger Games series. I let him start first and then I read book one in two days. I was yelling at him to hurry up and finish book two. We both finished the whole series in a week we were so hooked. Warning- these are not “happy/warm fuzzies” books.
