This weekend was relaxing, active and filled with quality time with Ryan and Sadie. In other words, it was just what I needed and wanted! After a week away from Charlotte, I was ready for some downtime with my two favorites.
Here are a few of my favorite (weekend) things that just so happened to pop up over the course of this weekend:
- Extra Long Walks
Hiking is a favorite weekend activity of ours for sure, but this weekend icy trails kept us from visiting some of our favorite local spots. Instead, we decided to take Sadie on an extra long walk around the neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday. We ended up covering nearly seven miles on Saturday morning!
- Sunday Brunch
When Ryan and I lived in Orlando, we loved joining our friends for brunch over the weekend. Our love for brunch fell to the wayside when we moved to Ocala since brunch hot spots seemed to be more limited, but our move to North Carolina brought our love for brunch back into the picture. On Sunday, we treated ourselves to a casual early afternoon brunch at the Galway Hooker, an Irish-themed pub that offers lots of delicious brunch staples every Sunday. Ryan and I kicked off brunch by sharing the oh-so-indulgent Dublin fries that were ridiculously tasty… and, yes, served with gravy. I think we both felt full after digging into the cheesy fries before our main courses even came out!
- Lazy Couch Time
When Ryan and I have nothing on the calendar for the weekend, we love chilling on the couch and just relaxing. We spent the two hours before bed last night watching two of the final episodes from season two of House of Cards in preparation for the big season three debut this week. <— So excited!!! Ryan and I both got totally hooked on House of Cards last year and have been anxiously awaiting season three for months. We decided to re-watch the last few episodes of season two for a little refresher before we’re all in again on season three!
- Pizza and/or Sushi
If we stay in on a weekend evening, Ryan and I often don’t feel like cooking, so sushi or pizza have become somewhat of a tradition. Last night, I picked up a few rolls to go from Publix and we both dug in while watching House of Cards. Is it lame that sushi + couch time = My happy place? Oh, and pizza + salads from Brooklyn South definitely happened on Friday night. The best!
- Pure Barre
With my teaching schedule, I’m struggling to make it to as many barre classes as I used to since I’ve never been one to do the whole two-a-day workout thing. I like my 60-minutes-or-less workouts, which means on days I teach, I don’t usually take Pure Barre, too, so it felt great to get back in the studio on Saturday morning and feel the burn. Plus, I missed my barre buddies!
Question of the Morning
- When you have a weekend with no plans on the agenda, what are some of your favorite simple things to do?

for a second when I saw your arm in the “walks” picture with your garmin I thought – it can’t be that cold in Florida! Then I remembered you’d moved ages ago… Oh Mondays…

Sam @ Reddy Or Knot says
People don’t believe it but Publix has some pretty good sushi for a grab and go grocery store!!! Plus most of the time the sushi chef will make it for you fresh if you don’t see what you like. Makes me miss living in Pensacola!

When I have a weekend with no plans, I like to snuggle ALL day on the couch with my frenchie and binge watch netflix! I mean who doesn’t?! I am a little embarrassed to admit, but my boyfriend and I watched every season of Scandal in the past 3 weeks….opppps

Sleeping in& hubby making a killer latte for me. Feet up, watching “The Kitchen” then having time to clean up the house & take a neighborhood stroll 🙂 It really is the simple things!
Ashley says
I am totally with you on weekend brunch and barre! I don’t do brunch too often, but when I am able to meet up with friends on the weekend for an extra long brunch, life is good!!!
Long walks are also so wonderful–but I am quite a wimp when it comes to the cold so I struggle to stay out for very long these days!
Have a great Monday!

Have you heard of OrangeTheory? My sister brought me to a class yesterday and I LOVED it! its a mixture of cardio and weight training lead by an instructor. It was challenging and so so sooo much fun! I’m not sure if they have location in the NC area, but if they do you should definitely try it out!

I love cozy weekends like that! Brian and I have a new puppy (a vizsla!) and he is getting so good at walking…covering over a mile and he is just a pup! I can’t wait to hike with him and go on long walks like your little family 🙂 As for lazy weekend go-to dinner? We love the Whole Foods salad bar!

weekend with no plans on the agenda = lots of running and working out, sleeping in, and relaxing w/ the boy (if i’m upstate) or meeting girlfriends for brunch.
Abby @ abbysilerfitness.com says
My husband usually works on weekends so on the ones that he gets off we like to spend a lot of time lounging and just handing out. We tend to get a little bit of housework done too though!
Abby @ abbysilerfitness.com says
1I made this yesterday and it was amazing! I added a little bit of dill as well and it turned out great! It is snowing here in Kansas and this was the perfect answer to a cold winter day!

I’d kill for a walk outside right now, I NEED to get outside, we’ve been stuck inside bc of this stinking PA weather, I’m ready to move somewhere where we can enjoy the outdoors more 🙁
We didn’t do anything out of the usual this weekend, had a sick baby Saturday, then sunday is church and visiting with my mom 🙂

Honestly, I just love poking along when I have nothing to do on the weekends. I will spend two hours organizing a drawer, just because I can! It’s also extremely nice to be able to wake up, eat a leisurely breakfast and work out before getting on with my day.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
If my weekend isn’t to busy I like to take some time to read! I wish I had more time to do it.
There’s a grocery store here that sells sushi, but it’s just not the same as what I get at sushi restaurants. Yours looks pretty good though.

On a weekend with no plans I love to ‘try’ and sleep in a little, cook a bigger breakfast, and take the dogs out on a run/walk. This past weekend was wayyyy to cold and windy to do much of anything outside and I could tell my border collie knew something was missing!
Karina @ fitsickle says
