This weekend was relaxing, active and filled with quality time with Ryan and Sadie. In other words, it was just what I needed and wanted! After a week away from Charlotte, I was ready for some downtime with my two favorites.
Here are a few of my favorite (weekend) things that just so happened to pop up over the course of this weekend:
- Extra Long Walks
Hiking is a favorite weekend activity of ours for sure, but this weekend icy trails kept us from visiting some of our favorite local spots. Instead, we decided to take Sadie on an extra long walk around the neighborhood on Saturday and Sunday. We ended up covering nearly seven miles on Saturday morning!
- Sunday Brunch
When Ryan and I lived in Orlando, we loved joining our friends for brunch over the weekend. Our love for brunch fell to the wayside when we moved to Ocala since brunch hot spots seemed to be more limited, but our move to North Carolina brought our love for brunch back into the picture. On Sunday, we treated ourselves to a casual early afternoon brunch at the Galway Hooker, an Irish-themed pub that offers lots of delicious brunch staples every Sunday. Ryan and I kicked off brunch by sharing the oh-so-indulgent Dublin fries that were ridiculously tasty… and, yes, served with gravy. I think we both felt full after digging into the cheesy fries before our main courses even came out!
- Lazy Couch Time
When Ryan and I have nothing on the calendar for the weekend, we love chilling on the couch and just relaxing. We spent the two hours before bed last night watching two of the final episodes from season two of House of Cards in preparation for the big season three debut this week. <— So excited!!! Ryan and I both got totally hooked on House of Cards last year and have been anxiously awaiting season three for months. We decided to re-watch the last few episodes of season two for a little refresher before we’re all in again on season three!
- Pizza and/or Sushi
If we stay in on a weekend evening, Ryan and I often don’t feel like cooking, so sushi or pizza have become somewhat of a tradition. Last night, I picked up a few rolls to go from Publix and we both dug in while watching House of Cards. Is it lame that sushi + couch time = My happy place? Oh, and pizza + salads from Brooklyn South definitely happened on Friday night. The best!
- Pure Barre
With my teaching schedule, I’m struggling to make it to as many barre classes as I used to since I’ve never been one to do the whole two-a-day workout thing. I like my 60-minutes-or-less workouts, which means on days I teach, I don’t usually take Pure Barre, too, so it felt great to get back in the studio on Saturday morning and feel the burn. Plus, I missed my barre buddies!
Question of the Morning
- When you have a weekend with no plans on the agenda, what are some of your favorite simple things to do?

Totally agree with watching Netflix–i am so excited for House of Cards season 3!! I would also say a nice workout and a lunch date with my husband at on of the nearby local spots we can walk to.
Katie @ Live Half Full says
My perfect weekend without plans would include lots of relaxing, sleeping, working out and good food!
Cassie says
I’m definitely with you on the Netflix/couch/sushi front! We just finished Breaking Bad yesterday!
Nina says
Your weekend sounds like my dream weekend! Up here in Boston long hikes + walks have been out of the question for over a month, and I’m itching to get moving outside again 🙂
PS: Where are your leggings from in the picture from Pure Barre? Love them!

My boyfriend and I are obsessed with House of Cards. He personally has been looking forward to this new season so much that he had me write down the 27th in my planner last year to make sure that we were home to start binge watching lol. He has never cared this much about a show.
Katie Sczublewski says
Totally with you on the House of Cards obsession! The season 3 premiere has shamelessly been scheduled on my Google cal since Netflix announced the release date last fall. The best!
Sarah @ KS Runner says
I love weekends where we don’t have anything planned and can just hang out at home and relax and catch up on some of our shows! We watched Scandal this weekend and are finally caught up again! I really want to watch House of Cards and Homeland soon. I’m guessing it won’t happen until this summer though.
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks) says
Chilling with the husband and watching a few episodes of a show is so awesome! I like a bit of that on a weekend plus good food, some cleaning/organizing, church, and outside play time!
Courtney {Alkeks Abroad} says
Yay, you reminded me House of Cards is back this week! We’ve been flying through Blacklist and I was starting to worry about to watch next.
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
I’ve wondered if you were still dong Pure Barre. I’m not one to double up on workouts either, so I don’t blame you for not making it quite as much. My husband and I have tossed around the idea of starting up House of Cards, I may just have to finally convince him once and for all.
Sarah @ RunningChickago.com says
holy smokes! that’s the craziest sushi i’ve ever seen!
Alli O. says
You pretty much nailed my perfect weekend. Relaxing with the boyfriend, no cooking, and exercise so I don’t feel like a total bum are perfect weekends for me!
Shelby says
Cody and I got sushi Friday night…best thing ever. I have not tried Publix sushi before, but if you love it, maybe I will give a go next time I want a quick fix. Also, I am so impressed you work out AND teach. If I taught a class, I’d probably call it my workout for the day 😉
Julie says
Ha! I actually said I rarely (if ever) work out and teach. 🙂 I’m definitely not killin’ it like that!
Kristen @ Glitter and Dust says
I’m with you 100% girlfriend! I have no problem spending a weekend at home, on the couch, watching Netflix and movies. Typically, when my husband and I have a weekend without plans we will exercise in the mornings, run errands and/or do chores around the house, and then veg in the evenings once it gets dark. There are so many great shows out there – it’s easy to park in on the couch and get invested. I can’t wait for House of Cards Season 3 to begin!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I like to read on lazier weekends. My husband and I also like to watch a lot of movies. We are super pumped about House of Cards this weekend too! Did you know Netflix accidentally released it a couple weeks early? It was available for like 20 min and if you happened to click on it during that time you could watch them all before they removed it. Too bad I missed that…
Kelsey says
I LOVE slow weekends with no plans! I am very similar to you…I like to binge on Netflix (for myself and with my boyfriend), go out for brunch or a coffee, and just try to refresh myself for the week ahead! I also like to take on an organization task as well.

When I have no plans for the weekend, I have several things that I enjoy doing. I will begin my weekend with a movie marathon on Friday night. These usually consist of cheesy, girly movies with my sisters. On the following Saturday morning, I try to sleep in a little later than a usual weekday. I like to slowly wake up and stay in my pajamas for as long as possible! I enjoy having a light breakfast such as an apple and peanut butter and a cup of coffee. I enjoy starting these mornings with a good amount of reading. I read my Bible and several devotionals that I have, along with any book that I am in the middle of reading at the time. Eventually, I will get dressed and head to the gym for a long, nice workout. I love going to the gym on Saturday mornings because there are never many people there, and it makes me feel so productive! I follow my workout with a nice lunch, and shower and dress for the rest of my day. I enjoy antique shopping and spending time in town with my sisters on Saturday afternoons. If the weather is nice, we will spend as much time as we can outside. We usually end up with several funny, memorable pictures that document our adventures. After relaxing and enjoying each others company for the afternoon, we will go to a favorite restaurant for dinner. Baking is the best way to end the night, so we like to pick up a cookie or cupcake mix at the store and come home to bake. We end the day with much laughter and fall asleep to another movie. Sunday morning is always church, but it is one of the things I look forward to the most. Worshiping with my church family is the best way to end a weekend and to begin a new, crazy week. These are the things I like to do on my free weekends!

(Sorry about the novel, but I was given a class assignment to make a comment on a blog post, and my teacher will be reading this!)

after a long day of thinking and being active or BEFORE the day actually starts, i absolutely need some time to sit and relax and do nothing. it’s one of my favorite hobbies. it’s usually when i catch up on blogs (like now… with my morning breakfast or coffee!) or tv shows 😀
i love these quiet moments.
