And now before the hustle and bustle of the weekend sets in, let’s dive into your weekly Things I’m Loving Friday post where we all chat about what we’re loving most every week. Feel free to play along in the comments section!
Have a great weekend!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Family Cookbooks
Something about the holidays always inspires me to flip through old cookbooks I’ve acquired from my mother and grandmother. There is something so wonderfully nostalgic about looking for recipes in the cookbooks my mom and grandma used when preparing delicious meals for our family. Many of the pages in the cookbooks they’ve passed down to me are splattered, stained and dog-eared and peppered with their personal notes about certain recipes and that is what I love most about them! I’m hoping to stumble upon a few winning recipes this weekend to incorporate into our Thanksgiving feast this year!
Charlotte friends, have you heard of Charlotte Agenda? It’s a relatively new website dedicated to covering all things Charlotte. The writing is smart, informative and entertaining and I check the site regularly for fun things to do in the area. I also love the way Charlotte Agenda profiles local businesses, people and events. It’s definitely worth checking out if you live in Charlotte and want to feel a little more connected to everything that’s happening in the Charlotte area!
- Al Fresco Breakfast Chicken Sausage
I am a HUGE fan of this breakfast chicken sausage! It has the perfect amount of spice and adds a ton of flavor to my morning meals. I’ve been using it in breakfast sandwiches (toasted English muffin + sausage + egg + cheese), frittatas and egg muffins and can’t get enough. I buy it at Publix and have noticed that it seems to go on sale somewhat frequently. Keep your eye out if you love breakfast sausage!
- Under the Mistletoe Candle
If you have a candle lover in your life, do them a favor and pick up this candle at Target to give them as a sweet surprise over the holidays. It smells like Christmas trees and was only $4. Yes, it was a total impulse buy (isn’t 99 percent of the stuff you buy at Target an impulse buy?), but it was a great find and I already wish I would’ve picked up more than one to burn in our home over the holidays.
- Lost
Laurel highly recommended I add Lost to my list of shows to stream on Netflix when Chase has me glued to the couch during one of his marathon feeding days and now I am ALL IN. I know I am years late to the Lost party, but I am really enjoying the show a lot. With so many twists and turns and random mini-mysteries within nearly every episode, I am totally hooked.

Jessica Simpson Launches Activewear Line at Macys (So many cute things!! Love these leggings and they’re only $30!)

- Friday Flashbacks
Below you will find a few throwback recipes I’ve shared in the past that I think would be a delicious addition to your Thanksgiving feast:
Pineapple Soufflé (Ryan’s mom’s recipe – ALWAYS a hit!)
Pumpkin Spice Cake Mix Cupcakes (A perfect dessert if you’re short on time!)
My Mom’s Stuffing (My all-time favorite Thanksgiving side dish!)
Simple Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash (Easy, tasty and healthy!)
Bubbee’s Glazed Carrots (Ryan’s grandmother’s recipe. SO delicious!)
Question of the Day
- What is one thing you are loving this week?
Katie says
Oh my goodness Julie… The breakfast sausage! It’s something I bought a few times last year and then totally lost it and couldn’t remember the name of it because my grocer stopped carrying it. I was googling around earlier this week still trying to find it because I was certain it was Applegate but this is totally it! (My googling history would be so embarrassing to see…) anyway… This is a big epiphany for me this am as you can see. Haha!! 🙂
Gwen @ Nutty G Fitness says
LOVE that chicken sausage too! I often find coupons for $1.00 off in the paper, too!
Amanda B @ Cupcakes & Miles says
That candle sounds like it would smell great! And, I too love family cookbooks. Just for browsing though… It’s best if I stay out of the kitchen.
Happy Friday!
Somer @PupsOnTheBrain says
YES LOST! Haha I have been on the Lost train since it first aired and I’m STILL always trying to get people hooked on it. Glad you’re enjoying it!
Julia@yogawinehappiness.com says
I’m finishing up my fall candles this week and can’t wait to start the Christmas ones next week!!
Melissa @ girlchasingpavement says
Candles and family cookbooks for the win!!!!!! Love this, Julie. Have a great weekend!
Katrina says
Oh my gosh, I’m so happy I have someone else who’s late to the Lost train! Lost is one of my absolute favorite TV shows to date, and my boyfriend and I started to watch it last year we’re almost finished ! It IS addicting isn’t it? Although I have to say I liked the first seasons much more than the last, but I still have to wait to see who Kate ends up with haha 😉 My head wants Jack but my heart wants Sawyer. My boyfriend also loves discussing this……
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I started watching Lost after the series finale and got SO into it! I’ve actually been thinking that I want to re-watch the show again because I loved it so much! Right now I’m really into The Newsroom thanks to my boyfriend and Amazon Prime having free streaming!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I LOVE Christmas candles – even more than I love the Pumpkin Spice candles for fall/Thanksgiving.
Gretchen | Gretchruns says
Right now I’m loving the caramel latte I got from my favorite coffee shop! I only get one when I work out before work, and today I did for the first time in months! Tastes so good 🙂
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Wow! I Really hope my grocery store carries t hose sausage patties! Ive only ever seen the chicken sausage links! Also, I watched all of the Lost seasons a few years ago and loved them! Can’t wait to hear what you think of how it all ends! I agree with the old cookbooks. I have a few handwritten recipe cards that my grandmother wrote out for me and my sisters. I love that it’s in her handwriting still and I always bust them out during the holidays. It’s like she’s there cooking with me 🙂
This week I’m loving Peanut Butter Berry kind bars. I thought that combo was going to be weird but turns out it is delicious! Hope you have a good weekend with your family!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
i need to check out jessica simpson’s active line!! i’ve been loving ava anderson nontoxic detangler for william’s hair – it makes his curls amazing!
Morgan @ Morgan Manages Mommyhood says
I SO BADLY want to watch lost, but I feel like with a toddler, I would never be able to fully get into and understand an episode. I hear it’s very confusing!
Maureen says
I am loving that next week is a short work week and I can finally catch up on the sleep I need…I have been fighting a virus and just need to make it to Thanksgiving. THEN I can crash!
Beks says
I am absolutely loving coffee. I mean, serious, SERIOUS love. It’s been so cold in the midwest, and I’m not ready for winter. At all.
I love family cookbooks! My parents actually organized a family cookbook of my mom’s dad’s family’s recipes (my grandma had one brother, and he didn’t have any family recipes), because he had about ten siblings (Big German family). The recipes that have been passed down are now safe in a fun cookbook with our large family tree in it. Love it.
Hilary says
Looking through my mom and grandmas recipes I always get so much joy out of too! Something I have been loving lately is the sunshine! After a couple weeks of lots of rain it’s nice to see the sun again!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
More visitors? Wow! You guys are operating a little hotel (or a bed and breakfast?) these days, and that’s just awesome! I hope you enjoy the weekend, lady! 🙂 (Have you ever watched Friday Night Lights? That’s perhaps my favorite old series on Netflix. I never made it through Lost, but I know people were obsessed.)
skigirl0891 says
I’m loving BYOB mom’s night mani pedi gatherings!! Great idea to get out of the house after babies are sleeping. Twin mommin’ ain’t easy 😉
P.S-When my husband and I met we watched LOST (years after everyone else also) and it was our JAM!! Although I will say, the first few seasons are the best…..
Alex Wright says
Being a senior in college and married, I have not spent much time with my mom this semester. I am looking
forward to us going Christmas shopping this weekend, before I have to start studying for finals! Also,
we are having our first friendsgiving as a married couple this weekend and I could not be more excited to fill the air
with sweet potato pie, turkey, and laughter!
Kelly @ Kelly Runs For Food says
Candles are a must this time of year! We always have one burning in the evenings at home. I love the B+BW candles the best, but Target and TJ Maxx always have good ones for cheap. Speaking of Target, your impulse purchase comment is a true story. I have to pick up hair spray from there and I’ve already resigned myself to the fact that I’ll go in for hair spray and come out with at least $50 worth of stuff I didn’t need.
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
I watched Lost when it was running and loved it! Very few shows seriously draw me in but that one SO did. Glad you’re loving it!
Caitlin @ Collectic Living says
I love candles and good deals so I may have to add that one to my list. I have been really loving the dollar bins lately. They have been stocked with so many great goodies!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Lost will always be my favorite show of all time! I cried when it was over forever! But seriously, good choice! Never too late 😉
Sara @ Oats & Rows says
I LOVE Charlotte Agenda! It’s such a great way to learn about so many different events, restaurants, and people in the area. I love when they review fitness studios and restaurants especially!

Krystal // The Krystal Diaries says
I’m year late to the Lost party too. I recently started watching the series and it’s so good! Can’t believe I never watched it before.
Laura says
Oh man, I was TOTALLY obsessed with LOST in college. My girlfriend and I had a standing date to watch it in her dorm every week! The first 3-4 seasons are such incredible television – great writing, great cast, great stories. I hate to tell you, but it gets a little nutty toward the end. I stuck it out because I had made it so far, but many people didn’t even finish the show as it got into the final season. Reminds me of Dexter.
Let us know whose team you’re on – JACK OR SAWYER??? 🙂
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement says
Love family cookbooks! I’m loving Sling TV! Just realized how awesome it is this week during treadmill workouts and biking on my indoor trainer. It’s the little things.

My sister put together a recipe book of all my parents’ classics. We love it and reference it any time we are having friends or family over for dinner!
Betsy says
Binge watching Lost is the best!! So much better than watching when it aired; you had to wait YEARS to find out what happened!!
Liz says
I’m sorry you aren’t able to host your Friendsgiving this year, but that is something I am actually looking forward to tomorrow is our Friendsgiving! I have not been able to go the past couple years because I had to work so I’m really excited to go home and see everyone!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I LOVED the first two seasons of Lost and then I felt like it wasnt quite as good going forward. I still watched it all of course, but I wish it had kept being awesome. I just started American Horror Story which is also like 4 years late but I’m loving it so far!
Ginette says

Vicki L. says
I’m so glad you are finally discovering the glory of Lost! I watched it during it’s original run on TV, and I’m pretty convinced it was my gateway to developing the interest in TV that I have today, haha! I’ve actually made a lot of friends because of Lost. I listened to a podcast about the show (The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack), and have recently become friends with the guys who made the podcast and a bunch of other people who listened to it as well. Because of them, I’ve been down to Raleigh the past two Aprils for the marathon podcast the guys do every year as a charity fundraiser.
We’ve even started a sort of Saturday morning run club for that weekend for those of us that run. We’ll drive to a nearby spot on the Greenway and run a few miles together. In the past, they’ve done a 5k race if one is held that weekend. This year it was only me and two other guys, but I’m working on slowly growing it, haha.
Stacey says
I just got some Thymes brand, Lotus Santal scent lotion. Oh my goodness, that is heaven on my skin. It’s soft, luxurious, with a warm scent for winter. I can’t get enough!!
Melissa says
LOST is so great! Enjoy!
The one thing that I’m really loving this week is probably Starbucks Multi-Grain Bagels with Cream Cheese – so simple yet I am completely hooked!
Arthi says
Omg … Lost … YES.
I don’t normally get hooked on TV shows (aside from random reality shows on Bravo) … But my mom got me SO hooked on Lost. Love it and on the last season!!
One thing I’m loving this week … The peppermint bark from William Sonoma … Can’t get enough!
Mark says
If chicken sausage is any better than turkey sausage, count me in!
jenni says
I have not been able to go the past couple years because I had to work so I’m really excited to go home and see everyone
