Our favorite furry vizsla is NINE years old today and we can’t wait to give her plenty of snuggles, lots of outside playtime and, of course, take her through her annual birthday challenge later this evening. It will be a fun day for our crazy pup!
Aside from celebrating Sadie, I am happy to report that our weekend is 100 percent free of any commitments and plans. Woohoo! I cannot wait to enjoy time in our little family bubble over the next couple of days and I’m crossing my fingers that the rain in the forecast holds off so we can spend some time outside. I think everyone here in Charlotte is beginning to feel a little spoiled by the past two days of sunny weather in the upper 60s!
Though Sadie, sunshine and anticipated time with my family this weekend is what I’m loving most this morning, it wouldn’t be Friday around here if I didn’t dive into your usual Things I’m Loving Friday post and share a little more more about some things that are making me smile this week. Let’s get to it!!
Things I’m Loving Friday
I owe you guys an updated makeup routine blog post and when I finally get my act together and write that one to share on the blog you better believe this eyeliner will be a top feature! I received Revlon’s Colorstay Ballpoint Liquid Eyeliner a couple of months ago in a PopSugar Must Have Box and received so many comments back on Snapchat when I unpackaged it from you guys telling me it would quickly become my new favorite. You didn’t lie because this stuff is MAGICAL. It is, hands down, the easiest eyeliner I’ve ever used and that’s coming from someone who smudges eyeliner regularly and can’t draw a straight line across my eyelid to save my life. It stays on my eyelids and looks amazing and I am a HUGE fan. I love the way I can control the thickness of my eyeliner lines with the ballpoint tip (I personally prefer a rather thin line) and I cannot say enough good things about this stuff!
This is another beauty favorite of mine that I discovered earlier this fall. Random story: My sister and I both had this makeup setting spray in our cosmetic bags and when I thanked her for introducing it to me and told her on how much I love it, she said I introduced it to her! Clearly neither of us have any idea where we actually learned about this spray but we’re both happy its in our lives and give it rave reviews! I don’t use it everyday (I save it for special occasions like date nights and parties) but I truly do think it helps the longevity of my makeup. You just lightly spray it on your face after your makeup is on to set your makeup in place and it really does work! (It feels like a light mist which freaked me out at first but it doesn’t look damp or greasy at all.) Aside from my favorite primer, I think this stuff is the best thing going for getting your makeup to last!
- Suja Wild Probiotic Water
Ryan picked up a bottle of this probiotic water because he’s a sucker for any kind of juice that contains a kick of cayenne and we have both been loving it this week! It’s slightly sweet and spicy but incredibly refreshing. I love combining it with sparkling water for a bubbly treat!
- Good Culture Cottage Cheese
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a cottage cheese fan. I know it’s not for everybody but I’ve loved it since I was a little girl. My dad would always eat it with apple butter (don’t knock it ‘til you try it), and I learned to love it from a young age. I am always on the lookout for great cottage cheese and two weeks ago, I stumbled upon Good Culture whole milk cottage cheese and quickly fell in love with the extra creamy, high-protein snack. I’ve loved topping it with fresh berries or slivered almonds and a drizzle of honey.
- Burn Boot Camp Head Trainer Position (Upper St. Clair, PA)
This one is for my fellow personal trainer friends out there! My friend Lauren (<—seriously one of the kindest people you will EVER meet) is opening a Burn Boot Camp in Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania and she and her husband are on the lookout for a rockstar head trainer to run the show! Oooo that eyeliner looks amazing!! Going to have to try that out!! I’m also looking forward to a relaxing weekend with the fam! Weekdays seem just so busy now that it’s really nice to unwind for a few days with those I love the most!
Happy birthday to Sadie!! Enjoy your weekend!!

Sara @ Oats & Rows says
I love the Urban Decay makeup setting spray! I’ve gotten a few laughs from friends like “does that actually work?!” but I really think it does. I always grab one of the minis from the displays in the Ulta/Sephora checkout line. I’ve also tried using a rose water face mist in place of it and think it works just as well too!
Julie says
Isn’t it great!? I was skeptical at first, too, especially after I initially sprayed it on my face, but I think it REALLY does work and is pretty amazing!
Patricia @Sweet And Strong says
Omg such a great idea to combine that suja water with sparkling water. I like it but miss the fizz for sure! And happy birthday to Sadie!
Claire says
I like about 5 mins from Upper St. Clair and can’t wait to try a workout when they open! I am too busy teaching spin and working full time to apply, but will definitely try it out!
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
Happy birthday, Sadie!! Enjoy your family weekend with no plans! Those are the best! That kind of eyeliner always scares me because I feel like it’s so smudgy–I’ll have to try it!
This week I’m loving that I can finally stomach a cup of coffee again! Sweet sweet coffee is back in my life after 16 weeks or pregnancy nausea and a total coffee aversion!!
Sarah @ BucketListTummy says
Happy BIrthday Sadie!! We are hoping the rain holds off here too! Enjoy your plan free weekend.
Jessica says
Happy Friday Julie! I confess I got that same Pop Sugar box with the eyeliner but have yet to try it. Not sure why, it just didn’t “wow” me when I saw it and so its still sitting in a drawer in my bathroom. I will give it a go this weekend!
And I wanted to mention that I’ve been using the collagen you recommended for maybe 4 weeks now. I’ve only been consistent for probably 2 of those 4 weeks but I’m optimistic that its helping me with hair growth. My curly hair really loves to grown OUT but not DOWN – this is a common girly girl problem – so I’ve got fingers crossed this collagen will give me a boost in the length department! I’ll keep you posted!
Happy Birthday to Sadie! We have a new addition coming to our family next week. We have one dog currently but are getting a toy cockapoo puppy for our daughter. “Daisy” arrives next wednesday and we are SO excited! Dogs are the best!!!
Julie says
Honestly, I had the same reaction because it seemed like another drugstore makeup find but when so many people commented back saying it was so wonderful, I gave it a shot and I am SO glad I did. Hope you like it, too!
Jessie @ The Acquired Sass says
Ahh, Upper Saint Clair is so close to me! Excited to hop over and try out a class once they open!
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SADIE! I love every picture of her you included in your collage. What a sweet sweet lady she is. Hope you’ll post the results of the birthday challenge // tradition on Monday!
Jami says
Yay, I love that eyeliner has been one of my go to ones for a long time. I always say I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler and love how easy it is to use. Another favorite is Maybelline master graphic. Basically like a sharpie for your eyes…but it stays on all day. Most liquid eyeliner wear off halfway thru the day for me and I love that this one stays on all day. It has a chiseled tip so you can do a thin line or a more dramatic one. I prefer the thin. Take care.
Teresa says
Happy birthday to your adorable pup!
I love UD’s Makeup Setting Spray! Though, I have never used the deslick version. Might have to try it 🙂
My girlfriends and I JUST had the collagen conversation yesterday. I have not yet used it but have to make a trip to my Vitamin Shoppe this weekend & was considering picking up a container. After reading your post about it I am definitely picking up some. I especially love that it supports joint health. I have such a terrible time with my knees during & after running lately. I have also amped up my workouts and have been feeling stiff in the mornings. This seems like it will help!
I know what I am definitely loving this Friday. It’s funny you mention that you are excited to have ZERO plans because my husband and I said the exact same thing this morning. We have quiet dinner plans with friends tomorrow but thats it. I think we’re going to my favorite coffee shop tomorrow morning (about 20 minutes from our house, unfortunately) so that he can grade papers and I can blog for a couple hours. I love lazy weekends!
Have a fabulous Friday!
Julie says
Sometimes no plans are the best plans!! Hope you are able to enjoy a relaxing weekend, Teresa! <3
Kerrie says
Ohhhhh! What is in the birthday line-up tonight?? Happy Birthday Sadie!

I’m all about the Good Culture, that stuff is so good! I love the Kalamata olive one too. Happy Birthday Sadie!

Happy Birthday Sadie!
Tried my first BBC pop up class last week. I loved it and despised it all at the same time! Great workout that left me sore!
Have you tried Noosa yogurt? It’s so good! The lemon flavor taste just like lemon meringue pie! It’s a nice treat when you have a sweat tooth 🙂
Julie says
Yes! Oh my gosh Noosa is ridiculously tasty! I LOVE the coconut flavor!
Trina Gooch says
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SADIE!!! Can’t believe she’s 9!!! Vinni (my 6 year old Vizsla) sends his love to his older and wiser, cyber girlfriend!! XOXO
I can’t wait to see the birthday video later! Enjoy your Friday, Julie!
Stacey says
A BBC just opened here in Michigan! I’m going to Orientation on Sunday. I can’t wait
Julie says
Woohooooo! I hope you LOVE it. I seriously look forward to going and have never done the same workout twice in the 1.5 years I’ve been a BBC fan!
Stacey says
That’s awesome!!! I’m really looking forward to it!
Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed says
I just recently tried gel eyeliner (a little pot with a tiny brush) and I’m loving it. It definitely takes a little getting used to, but you can really be precise! I’m using one from L’Oreal and it’s great.
I’ve never tried a finishing spray, but eyelid primer was a huge game changer for me!
Happy Friday & Happy Birthday Sadie <3
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I’ll have to check out that makeup setting spray. I don’t wear makeup everyday, but it’s worth a try for special occasions. Have a great weekend!
Julie says
Same! It’s great for a special night out when you want your makeup to last a little longer!
Kelli @ Hungry Hobby says
We are seriously mind melding today! I love all of those things except Burn Boot Camp because we don’t have those in the West ha ha!
Alyssa says
I absolutely love reading your Things I’m Loving because I usually find one or two things to try! I rely on recommendations from friends and bloggers so much because they tend to be honest and true. So thank you for sharing!
Julie says
This made me smile! I’m so glad to hear it, Alyssa!! <3
Hanna says
Hi Julie!
YES to this eyeliner!! It has seriously been my absolute favorite for years now and I always get questions as to which eyeliner I use. Since you also prefer very thin lines, try using the classic tip one! Revlon actually just recently came out with this eyeliner in the ballpoint tip and the triple edge tip (both of which I have tried) and I still prefer and love the classic one. I’ll link it down below for you 🙂
Have a great weekend!

1. Happy birthday, Sadie! 2. I am absolutely loving my brilliant idea to work from a coffee shop today. I love even more that they have mimosas. So mimosas it is!

I’ve been using that same makeup setting spray for years now and I just love it so! It works so well. I love it for preventing my face from looking greasy too. I’ll be on the lookout for that eye liner too!
Annie says
You must share what the challenge was this year on Monday!!
I’ve been reading your blog for a long time and had no idea you and Ryan did this. It’s so hilarious, I have to try it with my pup. (It’s his adoption-iversary weekend, so no time like the present!)
Kim from MN says
Ooooooooooooooooo….as soon as I read it was Sadie’s birthday I scrolled before reading anything else to see if there was a chicken challenge video. It’s always hilarious/so fun! (Also she never picks what I think she’s gonna pick.) Happy birthday to Sadie! Ha ha, have fun with that tonight! (ToNIGHT <–said in Aziz Ansari voice).
I'm excited about this eyeliner! I haaaaate putting on eyeliner. Or I should say, I'm really baaad at putting on eyeliner (it's never even, it always hops around, and in general, I'm just not great at it. I have other skills, but eyeliner application is not one of them!)
I also love cottage cheese! I usually go savory – and chop up little cherub tomatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper over all. But when I was little my mom used to put cottage cheese and half a pear over a big lettuce leaf (it was a big thing back then.) I love these Good Culture cottage cheese containers, btw – the graphic design reminds me of my childhood, when we would go to local dairies for our milk/cheese/cottage cheese etc. I know it's simplistic, but the navy blue/white scheme gives me a happy vibe!
Your weekend sounds like a great one – the best thing about weekends like that is that they're all about spontaneously doing whatever you want, whenever you want to do it. Instead of being somewhere at a set time, you get to do as you please! Have fun!
S alton says
Happy Birthday to Sadie from one dog lover to another!
Lynn @thenotdeadyetblog says
I love cottage cheese, especially with peaches! I’ll have to try this.
One thing I’m loving right now is living in Washington, D.C. I had serious doubts on January 20, but January 21 was a brand new day and changed everything. Very inspired to be here now!

Keeping with the cosmetic theme….this week I am loving Beautycounter’s Balancing Face Oil! The winter is super dry here and the oils and the Tint Skin Foundation have been a game changer for me! They have a baby and kids line that I LOVE for my LO too! Beautycounter has banned or restricted over 1,400 harmful chemicals from their products. Products that are safe and preform equals a Win Win for our family!
Check it out and I’ve love to answer any questions!

Happy Birthday Sadie! 🙂
Jess says
That UD setting spray is a miracle worker. When I took my sister to her first Warrior Dash a few years ago, she wore full make up and used the spray, and looked flawless in our finish line photo. I couldn’t believe it! I don’t wear make up for races because it irritates my eyes too much and I get dirty anyway (especially at an obstacle race), but I was thoroughly impressed it held up under those conditions!
Julie says
Okay now THAT is impressive!!!
Theresa says
I love the Smashbox primer too! I recently converted to the green Color Correcting version which keeps my pink cheeks and acne flare-ups as neutral as possible. Having both in my arsenal is a game changer!
I’m an old fan who’s been away for a long time, but I’ve just gotten back into your blog and I love that it’s still the same wonderful thing it was last time I was a regular reader! 🙂
Berry says
Good Culture cottage cheese is great! Look for their blueberry and strawberry flavors too. It’s low sugar but has just enough sweetness and they add chia too. It’s great to take for lunch as an alternative to yogurt.
