Hi from the sky!
I am currently blogging from the plane as I make the journey back to Florida from California. My time in San Francisco has been incredible and I only wish I had a few more days in the city to wander around and explore. It’s such a fun place and I’m determined to come back with Ryan one day. (We are dying to visit wine country together!)
For as much as I love traveling (and I loooove traveling!), it always feels good to be home and I’m ready to see my family and get smothered with sloppy Sadie kisses! I still have a brief layover ahead of me, but I’ll be back in Jacksonville around dinnertime and I’m more than ready to relax and catch up on sleep.
But for now, let’s chat about things we’re loving this week!
Things I’m Loving Friday
This thing is amazing. It totally saved my muscles after last Saturday’s races and I cannot believe I’ve waited so long to have this baby in my life. Rolling it along my muscles feels like a deep tissue massage and I love that I can easily roll it over my quads, hamstrings and calves while I sit on the couch. It’s easy to do yourself but it feels even better if you can talk someone into doing it for you. Ryan and I took turns rolling it over each other’s muscles before I left for San Francisco and I swear I almost drooled. If you love (or love to hate) the foam roller, I have a feeling you will adore this!
- Brookside Dark Chocolate with Pomegranate
This candy is so delicious. I love grabbing a small handful to eat after dinner. A perfect little sweet treat!
At the Stitch Fix headquarters and warehouse, employees can grab a bunch of different snacks and beverages to enjoy for free throughout the day. (Amazing, right?) During our visit, I think I drank 5,000 bottles of Hint. I fell in love with the honeydew flavor because it’s so refreshing and clean-tasting.
Apparently I live under a rock because I only recently learned about theSkimm, a daily e-mail newsletter that shares snippets about current events – across subject lines and party lines – and breaks everything down with fresh editorial content. It removes a lot of the “fluff” and gives you a basic rundown of what’s going on in the world, often in a quirky, entertaining way. If you don’t have the time or desire to watch the news or read a newspaper it’s a great way to get a quick glimpse at major headlines every day. (You can see the today’s Skimm here.)
I’ve heard the concept of a blow dry bar before but up until yesterday afternoon I had never experienced one myself. Stitch Fix and LUNA arranged for our group to get blow outs before a fun photo shoot (more on that soon!) and I had a wonderful time relaxing and chatting with the woman who did my hair while I sipped hot peppermint tea. I went for a softer look and a lot of it ended up falling within a few hours, but my hair has a hard time maintaining curl and volume so that is to be expected.
Here’s a sneak peek at the end result four hours after we left the salon:
My end result wasn’t anything too fancy, but anytime someone will massage my scalp and do my hair for me, I am a happy camper!
I am in love with this snack! The flaky coconut. The slightly spicy cashews. The bold flavors. I need more of it in my life!

Question of the Day
- What is one thing you’ve been loving this week?
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Ooh gaaawgeous darling! I’ve never been to a blow dry bar before, such a cool concept though!
Brittany says
Oh, I do love The Skimm! My favorite part of my morning routine is eating breakfast and catching up on my daily email from them!
And I have been DREAMING about winning the Wanderlust giveaway but alas, maybe next time. 🙁 Congrats to the winner!
Heather @ PrettyHealthuMostoftheTime says
I need that stick! You sold me with the idea of using it on the couch. Foam rolling gets complicated with 2 golden retrievers who always think I’m trying to wrestle them!
Julie says
Yesssss! Sadie makes foam rolling an adventure!
Rachel @ Blonde with a Chanse says
I love the idea of a dry bar! I love getting my head massaged as well. Safe travels home
Megan K says
love your bracelets in the last pictures!!
Julie says
Thank you!!
ellie @ fit for the soul says
What a fun trip! I saw a few updates on IG of you ladies and it looks like a pretty cool experience. 😀 And normally I don’t like how makeup and all that stuff is done on me, but I don’t mind a bit of pampering here and there…;)
Julie says
I TOTALLY know what you mean! They actually had people there to do our makeup and I opted out of that b/c I am so weird about it. 🙂 I’ve just had one too many bad experiences with looking like a clown!
Bethany @ Accidental Intentions says
Those Brookside chocolates are THE BEST. Oh my gosh. I ran a race a couple of months ago that handed out sample packs at the end, and I’m totally hooked. Can’t stop won’t stop. They’re so delicious!
Jen @ LivingLoving30 says
Our Costco here in Sarasota carries the Brookside Dark Chocolate & Pomegranate. So dangerous!
Brynn says
I just got hooked on Hint and The Skimm, too! Such a great way to get a quick glance at the latest!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I LOVE the Skimm! I’ve been reading it for about a year or so now and it’s the best way for me to get the news!
Leanne says
I love to see people enjoying Brookside – the company originated about 10 minutes from me all the way here in British Columbia, and I drive past their building everyday on my way home from work. Too bad you’re not going to the Wanderlust Festival in Whistler – you might have been able to pop into Brookside!
Caitlin @ Happy 'n' Hungry says
Ooh, Honeydew Hint? That looks great! I can typically only find the blackberry around Nashville, Tenn.
This week, I’m absolutely loving my new camera my husband gave me as a present for our first anniversary!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Aww you are beautiful!! I love all the things you mentioned this week.
Brianna K. @ Hungry Gator Gal says
I love everything you mentioned in this post! Especially The Skimm. I’ve been reading it for nearly 2 years. Gotta love getting the news fast and efficiently. As for what I’m loving, I can’t get enough of Wonderful Salt & Pepper Pistachios. Zero self control. I’m also loving herbal teas in the afternoon. Tazo cocoa mint mate and wild sweet orange are amaaaazing. You can buy them at Publix. 🙂
Katie says
I have a Stick and like it. I think it works best on the lower body. However, I don’t use it as much as I should.
Natalie @ Twenty-Something Talk says
I LOVE my local blow dry bar! It is a lifesaver for nights out or just those days in general where I need to feel pampered and get a confidence boost!
My stick has seriously been a recovery LIFESAVER. I love using it on my calves after a particularly tough run.
EB @ Running on E says
I’m a huge fan of the stick too although my dog always wants to join in!
Ashley Pitt @ A Lady Goes West says
San Francisco is amazing. I’ve been here for a year-and-a-half and I love it. There’s so much to see and do. Wine country is only a short drive away. Hope you get to experience it one day. Happy Friday:)
Kristen says
You look absolutely gorgeous even 4 hours after your blowout! I look Brookside’s chocolates. Both the pomegranite and acai flavored ones are awesome! The stick used to be my best friend in High school when I played soccer! I was always so sore especially after tournaments and it really helped loosen up my muscles.
I too must live under a rock because I only found out about theSkimm a couple of days ago as well. I signed up for the newsletter and I’ve enjoyed the the quirky yet information style of writing.
Marielle says
I LOOOVE dry bar! Any excuse I can find, I go! 🙂 And thanks for sharing the Skimm….I’m going to check it out right now! 🙂 Happy weekend !
KT @Glutes and Ladders says
I love a good blow out! I just got my hair cut Thursday night. By far, my favorite part is someone else washing, drying, and styling my hair.
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
I think getting your hair done is such a fun splurge! It always looks better than how I do it at home.
Gillian says
I read theSkimm religiously — every morning on my subway ride to work. I’m a huge fan!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely says
I love anything pomegranate flavored; add dark chocolate to it and I’d be one happy girl. Ummm…theskim.com is something I desperately need. I feel like I’m never up to date with what’s going on in the world!
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
I definitely couldn’t live without The Stick! That thing saved my legs last month when we walked a total of 100 miles between Carmel one week and San Fran the following week. It’s also great to roll out your lower back which I’m about to do since I’ve been cooking all day and my body is waving the white flag! So glad you love it too!
Julie says
One of My favorite summer recipes is a dessert bar that has a base of crushed up pretzels mixed with butter, then a layer of cream cheese mixed with Cool Whip, and a layer of strawberry Jell-O with fresh strawberries on top. It’s so sweet and salty and creamy! As for a healthy recipe I want to bring to a barbecue this summer, I recently had a salad made with carrots, pineapple, cilantro, red onions, and apple cider vinegar. It is light, tangy, and refreshing and I think it would be perfect for a cook out!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I LOVE the stick! I got one for my birthday and loved traveling with it for my half marathon in Boston and then with me to Utah for Blend. It was perfect and definitely helped keep my muscles relaxed!
Tara says
Thanks for the tip about the Skimm! Apparently I have also been living under a rock 😉
Sara D says
Funny question…. 🙂 What size “stick” did you get?
Katie says
I’ve been debating buying a foam roller. Now I may need to try the stick instead. Seems much more portable and easy to store.
Emily @ Fit as a Mother... says
Too funny – I just blogged about theSkimm tonight too. I also just discovered it. Love it!
Kristin says
I have a big bag of those Brookside chocolates on my nightstand right now. The açai and blueberry are my favorite!
Brittany @ DulceVie says
My roommate has the stick and lets me use it before and after practice! It is definitely a lifesaver!
Kellye says
I need to try the stick!! So I have finally figured out how to curl my hair without it falling out… You may have tried this trick before but you take the curling iron and start from the stop and twist and release the clamp as you go down (clamp each time) until every part of the strand has hit the hottest part of the iron. You gotta start at the top!? Who knew!
Sarah (Sarah's Book Shelves) says
I think I need to try the stick! I’ve been using the foam roller a couple times a week for the past few months and it KILLS, but definitely helps me recover from my training runs.
Livi says
Oh my gosh The Skimm sounds awesome!! I need to check that out!
Cassy @ On The Inside says
Try the Brookstone Dark Chocolate Blueberries too! They’re addicting!
Johanna says
I love turkey burgers! I don’t eat red meat or pork so turkey burgers have become a must-have at summer barbecues! I’ve been experimenting a lot recently with healthy dishes so I always have something new to bring.
Kristen @ Vitamin K Girl says
Can’t wait to try some of this stuff!
Polly @ Tasty Food Project says
You’ll love wine country! My husband and I went to a Napa Valley for the first time last year and had an amazing time!
I love those dark chocolate! They are so addicting!
Haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine says
Obsessed with those brookside chocolates! I have a mini bag with me wherever I go! 🙂
Jessica @ Sweat Is My Sanity says
I’m loving that arm candy. Gold + Turqoise…love. I guess this week, I’m loving that I’m back to blogging after a rough year grieving my moms death and family trials. It is so good to be back doing what I love and focusing on beauty and things that make me happy. La di da! 🙂
Xo,
Jess
Jessica @ Sweat Is My Sanity says
Loving that arm candy. I’ve never been to a dry bar but it sounds addictive so that’s probably a good thing!
Jess
Divya @ Eat. Teach. Blog. says
Love the Skimm.
I also recently tried Dry Bar for the first time a few weeks ago! I LOVE not having to do my own hair. And i love love love mimosas. Perfect combo! 😉
Christina says
Just signed up for the Skimm – i never heard of it as well, so excited to start getting my emails!
Lauren says
Love those teal bracelets!!
Amy says
What size stick do you have? Wondering which one would be the best to purchase– still not sure, even after reading the descriptions! It sounds awesome though!
Mar says
How was the San Fran weather? I’ll be there in 2 weeks and have no idea what to pack!!
DW says
The stick! So amazing. I was first introduced to it when I went to physical therapy for IT band and knee issues two years ago. I’ll never forget the first time they used it — hurt like hell, but the next day, I was pain-free! I recommend it to everyone who is active. I even take it on vacation!
I just signed up for the Skimm two weeks ago — I love it. It gives me a good rundown of the world — I feel like so much of our news here focuses on celebrity stuff and is very U.S.-centric.
Leslie @ Life Begins @ 30? says
We just got a blow out bar in KC. I definitely need to try it!! I have curly hair, so a straight blow out would be a major treat.
