It’s Friiiday!!!
The weekend is almost here and that in itself it something to smile about, right?
Keeping up the Friday trend around here, today I’m sharing another short list of things that are making me smile lately. As always, I’d love to hear about things you’re loving lately in the comments section of this post.
Happy Friday!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Absolute Power by David Baldacci
You know you’ve found a fabulous book when you want to crawl into bed hours before your usual bedtime so you can curl up and get lost in the pages of your riveting novel. Absolute Power sucked me in within the first few pages and the suspense and intrigue found on practically every page has made this book a hit with me so far! My aunt gave it to me last weekend and I’ve been flying through it. For those of you who love Scandal as much has I do, this book reminds me of that show a lot, as it takes place in Washington, DC and involves a lot of high-profile people, including the President of the United States. Ryan is planning to read it after me and then we’re definitely watching the movie!
- This Sign
Wise words from a sign I saw on our road trip last weekend.
Despite the chilly weather, I’ve made this for dessert two times this week. Ryan and I have been trying not to keep ice cream in the house because, between the two of us, we can house a half gallon in two days. I won’t lie to you and tell you this banana soft serve is a replacement for ice cream, but it is a fabulously sweet and creamy dessert option that’s much healthier!
The local coffee shop where I am working this morning just started playing this song and I knew it had to become one of my “Things I’m Loving Friday” features because it instantly made me smile and reminded me of the movie Clueless. Please excuse me while I go download that song… and “Supermodel.”
Call it “Northern Envy,” but every time I see puffy vests for sale online, I instantly want to buy a billion of them. (I blame the Columbia fashion show for this!) After eyeing one on a woman in Pennsylvania last weekend and seeing a bunch of them on sale on RueLaLa earlier this week, I think it may be time to add one to my wardrobe, even if I only get to wear it a small handful of times every year. They’re just too cute!
Some of my favorites: Athleta Ridgeview Vest, Columbia Women’s Lay ‘D’ Down Vest (love the light blue!), Reebok Insulated Vest, Roper Quilted Nylon Vest (probably my favorite – love the longer length and cinched waist of this one!)
Ryan and I were cracking up in bed last night after he showed me this article that breaks down the Puppy Bowl by numbers on CNN.com. I’ve obviously heard of the Puppy Bowl before but had no idea it is so incredibly popular. (12.6 million people tuned in last year!) Thirty kittens are “performing” in the halftime show and guinea pigs will be watching from a “blimp.” Too funny!
- Celebrating 10 Years
Tomorrow is a special day for me and Ryan. It’s our 10 year dating anniversary! (The above picture is from my 21st birthday… at Devaney’s for my fellow UCF people out there! And yes, we are planning to celebrate our dating anniversary because, as Ryan says, “Those are good years that should count!”) It’s hard to believe we’ve been together for a decade now and I’m excited for a hot date night on the horizon tomorrow!
Past Things I’m Loving Friday posts:
Questions of the Morning
- What is one thing making you smile lately?
- Would you rather watch the Super Bowl or the Puppy Bowl?
- What is the last book you read that totally sucked you in from the very beginning?
Chelsea @ A Fit LittleOne says
So happy it’s Friday!! Ah, I love that sign. Congrats on 10 years!! I agree with Ryan, they should definitely count. You spent those years together making memories. I’m most looking forward to the half time show haha my team didn’t make it, so I don’t really care who wins now, although I will be rooting for the BRONCOS, but still. Have a great weekend 🙂
Nikki says
Hahaha the puppies!! How come the vizslas are never in the puppy bowl????
Julie says
That is a PHENOMENAL question! They always get the shaft during dog shows, too, and are often featured during commercial breaks. Sadie is offended.
Linda @ Running4two says
So cute! Happy 10 years together!
I LOVE football, but I also love puppies! I will def be watching the Puppy Bowl and don’t miss Keyboard Cat too! LOL.
I am loving my new Kiehl’s face cream (expensive but it works) and leggings. I could wear leggings every day of my life. Have a great weekend!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Fridays always make me smile! 🙂
The banana soft serve ice cream looks amazing! And yes, I’m all about puffy vests this year. I’ve been wearing mine non-stop lately!
Stacey says
I made banana soft serve last night, too! Mine was with raspberry Siggi’s yogurt, a little soy milk, chia seeds, and a handful of cinnamon Puffins. Completely forgot the protein powder but it was still SOOOO good! That’s definitely something I’m loving this week, too. 🙂
Julie says
Sounds delicious!!
Celina says
My boyfriend made me smile when he made me this cute little crate for my dining room table.

Happy 10 years!!! I totally agree with Ryan. My boyfriend didn’t ask me to be his girlfriend until we had been dating for six months. So, we technically have two anniversary dates. Those first six months always counted for me since we were not seeing other people during that time.
Jackie says
Congrats on ten years!
Sammy says
I’ve been too lazy to make frozen bananas into soft serve- instead I’ve been eating 1/2 a frozen banana here or there for dessert! 🙂 YUM!!!! with a scoop of peanut butter of course!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
Oh my gosh, 10 years, seems like such a long time! Congrats! And I’ll have to check out that book, not something I would have picked up on my own but with your recommendation I might have to read it!
Julie says
Me neither! I only decided to read after my mom and aunt told me it was really good!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
Yay for Friday!! Happy decade of dating! That is awesome <3
I love puffy vests too!!
Florence says
I love that quote! It’s so important to make a life you’re proud of and not just live mindlessly on autopilot. Thanks for the reminder and happy anniversary!
Megan says
Congrats on 10 years! I feel the “dating” years need to be celebrate too! Although I tell my husband that all he needs to remember is the date we got married 🙂
Have a great time celebrating!
Libby Harmon says
I am currently loving Blueberry Slim Life Green Tea by Yogi Tea…it is AMAZING. You don’t need anything to sweeten it up- in fact, sometimes I throw a splash of plain almond milk on top to bring down the sweetness. Soo yummy though!
hannah @ PalmBeachRunner says
Awwww! Congrats on 10 years! You’ll are so cute! 🙂
Elizabeth @ Positive Change says
I love Scandal as well so I am going to have to check out that book!
One thing that has made me smile was the temperature was in the 30’s today!!! 🙂
Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book and it always sucks me in. I am reading it right now and every time I can’t put it down1!
Kimberly (Manifest Yourself) says
Congrats on the 10 yr anniversary!
I’m okay with the puppy bowl or the Superbowl as long as good snacks are involved. 🙂
Abby says
I LOVE that you and your husband celebrate your dating anniversary. So do we- our 9 year is coming up in October! And everyone always looks at us like we’re crazy when we tell them we still celebrate it. It’s a good excuse to have an extra fancy date night! Hope you guys have a great night out.
Meghan says
I love your blog and have read it for years but your new layout is next to impossible to read on a cell phone 🙁
Julie says
According to my web designer it should be fixed in 1 – 2 weeks! I know it’s terrible right now! So sorry!!
Rebecca says
Congrats on 10 years! My husband and I celebrate 10 years dating this year too! 🙂 I think it definitely should be celebrated!
Rebecca Jo says
I always love the Puppy Bowl. Saw that they’re having a Kitten Bowl for the first time 🙂
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Happy 10 years!! Josh and I celebrate our dating anniversary too! I welcome any chance to celebrate love. 🙂
Anna B says
My mom has that sign: “never get so busy making a living you forget to make a life” in her kitchen! I love it. Every time I am at my parents house it reminds me the importance of living a balanced life and taking advantage of all the wonderful things the world has to offer.
As for good books, I recently read Mindy Kaling’s “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)” I was laughing out loud but also though it was really interesting to hear about her life and how she got where she is today. It is definitely worth reading.
PS – I’m the same as you and Ryan when it comes to ice cream. If I buy it, I’ll eat it every night until it’s gone! I too have found frozen bananas to be an excellent alternative I don’t feel quite so indulgent about.
Julie says
That Mindy Kaling book is SO funny!! I loved it!
Ashlee@HisnHers says
Aw happy dating anniversary! We just passed our 11 yr dating anniversary on Jan 2 but totally forgot so no celebrating. I always haev to tell people, “But we started dating when we were 16!!” after I say we’ve been together for 11 years just so I dont sound so old haha
Marissa @ Barefoot Colorado says
I love your book rec’s! I wish you would bring the book club back!
Congrats on 10 years BTW 🙂
Miranda @ Lovely Wife Lovely Life says
Congrats on 10 years!! Christian and I are almost at 3 and I have no idea where those 3 years went! I loooove puffy jackets. I live in Montana and I want one SO incredibly bad!
Diana says
Happy 10 years together. That is definitely an important milestone! These days when people wait a lot longer to get married, I think the fact that a couple may have dated long term gets swept under the rug.
I’ve never actually seen the puppy bowl. I know it is uber popular, but I’ve never had a chance to tune in.
Shawna says
totally with you on the puffy vests! bought a royal blue CK one this year and love it. definitely get one! 🙂
Julie says
I saw that one and thought it was adorable!!!! Did you get it on RueLaLa?
Em says
That’s so sweet that your husband would say that! My husband thinks we should be celebrating only our wedding anniversaries, but I like your way better!
april says
happy 10 year anniversary! you and ryan seem like the cutest couple! =)
Brienne says
Congratulations on 10 years! You definitely should celebrate those years too! Another anniversary to celebrate! 🙂
Kaylie @ FitnessMovesYou says
Congrats on 10 years!
That soft serve looks so yummy- I will have to try it!
Dana @ Conscious Kitchen Blog says
Congrats on 10 years!! I love watching the Super Bowl… the commercials, the snacks and of course the football. I do think it’s amusing to flip on the Puppy Bowl for a few minutes too. They’re just so cute!
Kylie says
Congrats on 10 years together! Wow, that’s awesome 🙂 My husband also went out with me on my 21st and had actually ended up having to take care of me (oops!) – took care of me then and still does 🙂
Julie says
Something I LOVED last week that you might be interested in…I was shopping in Athleta (I’m in Massachusetts) and they give personal trainers/fitness professionals 30% off of non-sale merchandise. You just have to show them that you’re certified and sign up with them. I never knew about it until I saw their small sign when I was at the register. They also wanted to know if there’s an interest in becoming a “tester” for some of their clothes. (I’m NASM certified as well.)
Stacey M. says
Happy Anniversary to you and Ryan! 10 years … seems funny to say it out loud now I bet. My 7-year dating anniversary is coming up this weekend … Feb 3rd. My fiance and I don’t have plans (other than watching the Super Bowl), but now I’m thinking it might be nice to do something special on Saturday night. We’ll see …
I LOVE that sign as well! I really should buy one for my fiance because he is a complete work-a-holic. He leaves the house with me at 6:30 AM and doesn’t get home until 9:30 or 10 PM at night (if it’s a good day). It’s not so bad now because we’re not married and don’t have children, but it would be nice to see him for more than half an hour before bedtime. I always tell him that sometimes it’s not worth working so hard to make a lot of money if you don’t have the time or ability to enjoy what you’ve worked for.
Dayna says
HAPPY 10 YEARS! it just flies by, doesn’t it? You and Ryan are such an inspirational couple. I hope you enjoy your date tomorrow 🙂
I must agree with the puffy vests. That has now become my thing. Fur vests, Northface Vest, J Crew vests. I am all over that. It adds a nice touch to an outfit (and keeps me warm in 15 degree weather).
Lastly, I watch the puppy bowl every year. CAN.NOT.GET.ENOUGH!
Ashley @ Brocblog says
I want to just download the entire clueless soundtrack now! So great. Also Im in need of some new books, Ill have to check that one out!
Ashley says
How exciting! Congrats on 10 years to you and Ryan! 🙂
Jess @dearhealthyness.com says
Congrats on your 10 year anniversary!!! Banana soft serve is decadent, delicious and healthy, the best substitution for ice-cream 😉
Leslie says
I’ve been a reader for awhile but never commented, but I had to after seeing the Devaney’s picture. Boy does that place bring back some memories! (But it was so gross, what were we all thinking??) Congrats on 10 years!
Jesse says
Happy 10 years together!! And they absolutely do count!! Y’all are so adorable and I will have to give that banana soft serve a try.
Alexis says
Loving the baby cows I see on my way to work (random field in the suburbs ha!) They are so cute when they play in the snow!
As for the Bowls, I am 100% excited for all 3!!!
Kitten Bowl 12pm on Hallmark channel
Puppy Bowl at 3pm
AND the Super Bowl at 6pm
woowoo!
Abi@AbsofSteel says
the puppy bowl’s cute but it only entertains me for a couple of minutes so it’s super bowl for me
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
I want to see that movie! It looks so good – unfortunately, I have very little time for books. The books/mags I do read are all about health & wellness. Ha! Something that makes me smile…my Mom. She’s been here helping me recovery from my foot injury & I swear she is a saint! I don’t know what I would do without her. 🙂
Mallory says
Congrats on your anniversary!!
alli says
I got a black puffy vest for Christmas and wear it ALL the time, I love it! Although, I do live in the midwest and it’s freezing(!), it is a good investment! 🙂
Jenn says

Lindsay says

Oh, and the Puppy Bowl, GREATEST piece of television ever oh my GOSH.

Dawn @ OfficeGymRepeat says
Happy 10 year anniversary! How exciting, I’m at year 9 right now, can’t believe it has been almost a decade. I totally love that sign you saw on your road trip, great advice. Something that’s making me smile- heading off on a mini vacation to visit my parents this weekend!
Sky @ The Blonde In Black says
Congrats on 10 years!! That picture is adorable and it’s awesome that you still have it from your 21st! I’m more of a Super Bowl fan, but I’ll definitely take a few looks at the puppy bowl. And “The Book Thief” instantly sucked me in! I can’t wait to see the movie.
