Hi guys! Happy, happy Friday to YOU!
This morning I am buzzing about because I have to quickly head to our NEW HOUSE to meet with the movers at 8:15 a.m. We don’t have internet set up at our house just yet, so I wanted to knock out a morning post before I will be out of the loop for the rest of the day. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT OUR NEW HOUSE. I can’t stand it. We took a few loads of things from our temporary apartment over to our new place last night and I just wanted to roll all over the floors and hug the kitchen. (The kitchen is, without a doubt, my favorite part of our new house. I got the white kitchen of my dreams. Pictures to come soon!)
Even though our house and everything involved with today’s big move is consuming my mind right now, I managed to round up a few more things I’m loving this week to share in our usual Things I’m Loving Friday post! As always, feel free to play along in the comments section and tell me about something that’s making YOU smile this week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Our New House
You knew this would be on today’s list, right!? Last night Ryan and I met with our realtor at our new house for the final walk through and this morning the movers will be arriving with a big truck full of our stuff from Florida. We are planning to spend all weekend unpacking and organizing which I am oddly excited to do at the moment. I am sure the excitement will wear off within an hour of unloading our stuff, but I am thrilled to be in a house that we can officially call our own. Let the decorating and organizing begin! P.S. Remind me to tell you the ridiculous story about Sadie and her first experience with our new house. She’s such a goof and cracked us up last night.
Have you guys ever tried this cake before? It’s easily one of my favorite cakes ever and it comes from a box mix. If you follow the instructions exactly, you’re left with a rich chocolate cake with a fudgy center that tastes more like brownies than cake which is a great thing for me since I don’t really love chocolate cake. (Chocolate icing, however, is a different story!) My mom made it during our visit to Jacksonville last weekend and my whole family once again raved about it. Tip: Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can’t go wrong! (And just FYI, I often find this mix in the gourmet foods section of TJMaxx or Marshalls. Keep an eye out!)
- 20 Questions: People You Know Edition
(Previous road trip pic with Sadie!)
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the popular road trip game 20 Questions where the “questioner” asks the “answerer” 20 questions and uses deductive reasoning to try to figure out the person/place/thing the answerer is thinking of in their head. It’s a road trip staple for me and Ryan, but during our last road trip to and from Florida, we changed things up a bit and played 20 Questions: People You Know Edition. Rather than think of someone famous, we’d think of someone we both knew which made it a lot more fun! Just a little suggestion for those of you out there with a long car ride in your future!
I use this (free!) app ALL THE TIME. It’s perfect for scanning documents and immediately creates a PDF you can send along in a flash. You simply take a picture of the document(s) you want scanned with your phone and it brightens the image in a natural way and creates a PDF of the document. Since I work with a handful of brands and most of my partnerships require a lot of paperwork and signed documents, this app is super handy! If you want to drop-kick your scanner and think it’s a pain to scan documents regularly, check it out. It’s a breeze and really user-friendly.
I am now on a mission to visit every last one of these fabulous spots!
I got my act together last night and managed to make a decent dinner at our apartment before we took boxes of stuff to our new house. (Oatmeal and peanut butter and jelly have been my dinners of choice this week. Eh.) These buffalo chicken burgers were so darn delicious and I immediately made a mental note to remind myself to make them more often. They’re super easy to throw together and Ryan and I always give them rave reviews.

And thanks so much for sharing the scan app – I’ve been looking for a good one for ages and already used it multiple times 🙂
The one thing I was loving the most last week was booking my one-way flight for my year off to go travelling. Scary to quit my job and to think of moving, but I love travelling so much and know it will be worth it!

Seriously, I have to let you know how much I love your blog. I’ve been following for a year now and can’t get enough of it. I have been out of town or with family/friends (abnormal as I don’t live near these people) for 80% of the summer and haven’t had time to keep up with blogs I follow. I follow thru feedly and it’s easy to mark things as read or not. When I get really backed up I tend to just swipe them. But not your blog. I like just scanning through it and such. Congrats on your new house!
Julie says
This means a lot to me, Dawn!! Thank you so much! And thanks for taking the time to comment. 🙂

THANK YOU!!! …for the Genius Scan App info. I used it today so I didn’t have to lug around my graduate school text books and just took pictures of the section I needed for homework and was able to complete it in a smaller space that didn’t have enough desk space to accommodate my book and laptop. BEST APP EVER.
Erica says
Even though this post is a few weeks old now, I had to pop in and THANK YOU so much for letting me know about the Genius Scan app! My husband and I are in the process of purchasing a home and I cannot even tell you how helpful the app has been in dealing with all the associated paperwork! I think your recent moving tips post will also be coming in handy soon! : )
