Hi guys! Happy, happy Friday to YOU!
This morning I am buzzing about because I have to quickly head to our NEW HOUSE to meet with the movers at 8:15 a.m. We don’t have internet set up at our house just yet, so I wanted to knock out a morning post before I will be out of the loop for the rest of the day. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT OUR NEW HOUSE. I can’t stand it. We took a few loads of things from our temporary apartment over to our new place last night and I just wanted to roll all over the floors and hug the kitchen. (The kitchen is, without a doubt, my favorite part of our new house. I got the white kitchen of my dreams. Pictures to come soon!)
Even though our house and everything involved with today’s big move is consuming my mind right now, I managed to round up a few more things I’m loving this week to share in our usual Things I’m Loving Friday post! As always, feel free to play along in the comments section and tell me about something that’s making YOU smile this week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- Our New House
You knew this would be on today’s list, right!? Last night Ryan and I met with our realtor at our new house for the final walk through and this morning the movers will be arriving with a big truck full of our stuff from Florida. We are planning to spend all weekend unpacking and organizing which I am oddly excited to do at the moment. I am sure the excitement will wear off within an hour of unloading our stuff, but I am thrilled to be in a house that we can officially call our own. Let the decorating and organizing begin! P.S. Remind me to tell you the ridiculous story about Sadie and her first experience with our new house. She’s such a goof and cracked us up last night.
Have you guys ever tried this cake before? It’s easily one of my favorite cakes ever and it comes from a box mix. If you follow the instructions exactly, you’re left with a rich chocolate cake with a fudgy center that tastes more like brownies than cake which is a great thing for me since I don’t really love chocolate cake. (Chocolate icing, however, is a different story!) My mom made it during our visit to Jacksonville last weekend and my whole family once again raved about it. Tip: Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. You can’t go wrong! (And just FYI, I often find this mix in the gourmet foods section of TJMaxx or Marshalls. Keep an eye out!)
- 20 Questions: People You Know Edition
(Previous road trip pic with Sadie!)
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the popular road trip game 20 Questions where the “questioner” asks the “answerer” 20 questions and uses deductive reasoning to try to figure out the person/place/thing the answerer is thinking of in their head. It’s a road trip staple for me and Ryan, but during our last road trip to and from Florida, we changed things up a bit and played 20 Questions: People You Know Edition. Rather than think of someone famous, we’d think of someone we both knew which made it a lot more fun! Just a little suggestion for those of you out there with a long car ride in your future!
I use this (free!) app ALL THE TIME. It’s perfect for scanning documents and immediately creates a PDF you can send along in a flash. You simply take a picture of the document(s) you want scanned with your phone and it brightens the image in a natural way and creates a PDF of the document. Since I work with a handful of brands and most of my partnerships require a lot of paperwork and signed documents, this app is super handy! If you want to drop-kick your scanner and think it’s a pain to scan documents regularly, check it out. It’s a breeze and really user-friendly.
I am now on a mission to visit every last one of these fabulous spots!
I got my act together last night and managed to make a decent dinner at our apartment before we took boxes of stuff to our new house. (Oatmeal and peanut butter and jelly have been my dinners of choice this week. Eh.) These buffalo chicken burgers were so darn delicious and I immediately made a mental note to remind myself to make them more often. They’re super easy to throw together and Ryan and I always give them rave reviews.
Question of the Day

Congrats on the new house! One thing I am loving lately is The Produce Box! It is a service here in Raleigh that delivers fresh, local produce to your doorstep once a week. This week we received tomatoes, peaches, corn on the cob, apples and my favorite scuppernong grapes! This is only week two of our membership, but so far it is awesome! I also just read that they are going to start delivery in Charlotte. You should check it out!!

Congrats on the house! I closed on my first at the end of June and I still walk in and get supper giddy and run around with my dog saying “I love my house! I love my house!” Quincy doesn’t quite get the game we are playing but loves that it ends up with me sprawled on the floor to play 🙂
Julie says
Aw!! This made me smile! So glad you are loving your new place. 🙂
Caroline @ After Dinner Dance says
Congrats again! One tip I have from just having moved is to make sure to make unpacking the kitchen a priority. We did and it made all the difference – even if everything else was unorganized, we had a nice, clutter-free place to cook and eat! And fresh flowers do wonders for the kitchen before you can get any decorations up!
Julie says
That’s where I am starting first this morning!
Kari says
I think I’m loving the Genius Scan app…just last night I was about to throw my scanner out of the window. Problem solved! Best wishes for the moving…I’m excited to see pictures!

Ah – a new house! That’s so incredibly exciting!! Believe it or not, my husband and I actually moved in with my mom last month, only temporarily. It’s hilarious to tell people that we’re living in my mom’s basement haha, but it’s nice to be home for a little while again!
I hate to admit it, but I’m currently loving American Ninja Warrior, though my husband and I watch it in more of a “this is a ridiculous show” type of manner. It reminds me of American Gladiator, how serious the contestants take it! So amusing…
Hope you have a great Friday!
Lauren says
Buffalo Chicken Burgers? YES!
aladygoeswest says
Oh wow, I could totally use the Genius Scan. Thanks for the tip on that! Hope you have a great weekend unpacking. I love living the city life in San Francisco, but I dream of having a big house one day soon!
kristin @ W [H] A T C H says
have a wonderful first weekend in your new house!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
That buffalo chicken burger sounds amazing!!
Yay for white kitchens!! I really want one of those too. Unfortunately in Omaha the houses close to Josh’s job are all older with more outdated kitchens. If we looked at houses 20 minutes west, we’d get a brand new house of our dreams for the same price. It’s frustrating, but thankfully we aren’t looking at buying for a while. Maybe one of the older houses in our price range will get updated in the meantime! 😀
Michelle Hunt (@PeachyPalate) says
Hope moving day is going well! Definitely need to check out the 25 best ice cream shops!! I’m loving pork…chops, pork belly, ribs…I might just turn in to a pig!
Erin says
Congratulations on the new house!
I have visited #12 and #5 on that Ice Cream list and highly recommend both. (I may have drug my husband across the street when I saw Big Gay Ice Cream on Monday. 🙂 ) I’ll have to hit up #9 when I’m in San Francisco next month.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says

Congrats on the new house! We just bought our house last October and it’s been such a fun experience making it our home. Oh and I’m so jealous that you have a white kitchen! I can’t wait to see pics. We are hoping to redo our kitch next year and I am pining for a white kitchen!

Kristy Joy Browning says
The excitement of unpacking/organizing won’t wear off, trust me. The constant trips to Lowe’s/Target will eventually become tiring, but it takes at least a year to get sick of organizing your new home. Congrats!
Wendy says
Congrats on your new house! That is so exciting! One thing that made me smile this week was the video of the dog dressed as a spider and scaring people. THe dog looks so adorable!
Alexa says
omg i’ve been to Murphy’s ice cream in Dingle, Ireland!! #8 on the list! 🙂 so good
Amanda says
When we first walked through our new house our dog was searching all over for people and was so anxious for us to open every door. We realized that every time she goes to a new house it usually involved seeing and attacking other people. She didn’t understand 🙂
Lindsey says
Congrats on your new house! My husband and I bought our first house (up in North Charlotte) this past February, and we fall more in love with our house and the area everyday! It seems like every weekend we are discovering new local trails for running/walking the pup/mountain biking. I’m expecting a beautiful Fall this year! Enjoy!
Ashley @ Sweet carolina belle says
Happy moving day! I hope that everything goes smoothly. I had never heard of that scan it app before and will be giving it a try. Thanks so much for sharing. What made my day today was getting starbucks on the way to work!! Happy Friday girl!
