As always, there are lots of things I’m loving this week that I will detail below (please share your Friday favorites in the comments section!), but, without a doubt my favorite thing this week has been spending time with my sister! Leslie arrived in town late Wednesday night for a meeting and we both worked through the early afternoon yesterday but then I got to scoop her up and bring her with me to yesterday’s Girls On The Run practice.
(For the Instagram inquires, my pullover is from Stitch Fix and the brand is Loveappella!)
I loved introducing Leslie to our team and the girls loved meeting my sister. She did a great job adding a lot of spunk and energy to yesterday’s practice… even if she was quite chilly the whole time. Cold weather arrived in Charlotte yesterday and this morning it is in the upper 30s! Brrr!
Leslie is leaving Saturday evening (she has a bridal shower to attend on Sunday morning), but we are planning to make the most of these next two days together. Hooray for sister time!
And now let’s delve into your usual Friday post… Have a great weekend, my friends!
Things I’m Loving Friday
- 95 Year Old Sadie
I’m pretty sure Sadie looks like she’s lived 1,000 lives in this picture my sister snapped of her all curled up in bed this morning. (Can you tell Sadie doesn’t do well with a house that is trying to save money on heat?) I love my crazy pup so much and new little white hairs seem to pop up on her sweet face every day that I still refuse to take as signs of aging. You’re only as old as you feel, right? I’m pretty sure Sadie feels like she’s a chipper 8 months old, so we’re good to go.
- Persimmons
When I was in Jacksonville a few weeks ago, my sister’s husband had all of us try the most delicious persimmons he got from a coworker’s garden. They were so tasty and unique and ever since then, I’ve been picking up a few at the grocery store each week.
- Fabletics Hipster Briefs
This athletic underwear was a total impulse buy! I went on the Fabletics website to order a pair of their awesome Salar leggings in black (I have them in dark purple and love them) and ended up adding the hipster briefs to my cart because they looked super comfy and the reviews said you couldn’t see a visible panty line when wearing them with leggings. Sign me up! They are so soft and comfortable and don’t ride up when I wear them with leggings to Pure Barre. I’m a fan!
- Hope Shinz Lip Gloss
My mom, sister, aunt and I all bought different colors of this lip gloss when we were together at the Shine Women’s Conference at my sister’s church a few weeks ago. The Serving Team Director at the church owns the company and everyone was going crazy at their booth testing out the various colors and glosses. I walked away with a tube of the Luxury Gloss in Vivid Dream and have been absolutely loving it ever since. It’s thicker and adds more color than typical lip gloss (this is a good thing for me since I have very pale lips!) and it lasts for much longer than most lip glosses I’ve tried. It reminds me a lot of the more higher-end designer lip glosses I’ve tried in the past, but without the price tag! A big-time bonus: The ingredients in the gloss are “responsibly sourced, ethically created and never tested on animals.”
- Target Holiday Candles
The holiday season is officially upon us which means I cannot resist buying a few new seasonal candles. I popped into Target last weekend and left with some new scents, including a peppermint sage candle (love!) and a few wonderful-smelling candles from the three dollar bin, including the Fresh Snow scent you see blazing above. I can’t get enough!

I discovered persimmons a few weeks ago when Gina posted a smoothie with them + goji berries! I haven’t been able to stop making it since. It is seriously so good! Have a great time with your sister. Sister time is the best. I can’t wait to see mine at Thanksgiving.

What is it with our pups lately? I feel like Sadie is so much more greyer in the face, and so is my lil’ Alfie buds. 🙁

I was wondering how you eat persimmons?! Can you just bite into them or do you have to peel off the skin?
Nicole @ Squash on Squash says
I’ve never had a persimmon…at first glance I thought it was a pepper! Hmm one thing I’m loving this week is cappuccinos!
Lindsay @ Fit & Awesome says
Oooh, I’m going to have to check out those candles at Target. I’m planning to head there early in the morning for the Target and Toms collection launch.

You and Leslie are so cute! I like it when she makes “guest appearances” on the blog. The picture you posted yesterday of the both of you looked like something out of a magazine! Super cute style! Have a good weekend!

I’m glad to hear you like the Fabletics Hipster Briefs. I’ve just recently purchased one from UnderArmour and I’m really impressed, especially for workout days that consist of a lot of squatting. The only thing is they are costly. Hoping that the Fabletics are a bit more reasonable in price.

Hi Julie! Love your blog. I’ve been a follower for a few years 🙂 I’m also a fellow Queen City gal and happy to see that you and the hubby are enjoying the city! Was wondering if you guys heard of the dog bar in noda yet? It’s a bar where you can bring your dog! Another fun thing you guys should check out soon is mcadenville close to Christmas 🙂

This weekend, I loved having my parents in town. We took them to a few of our fave spots- the Holiday Shops at Bryant Park, Chelsea Market, and dinner at Peacefood Cafe. I was so happy that they were willing to eat at a vegan restaurant for the first time (and they loved it)!
