I have a totally random blog post topic to discuss this morning, but first, let’s wake up with breakfast.
Oh hey, yogurt bowl! It’s been a while, huh?
(Pay no attention to the woman in the spoon…)
Today’s breakfast included a strawberry Greek yogurt bowl topped with oats and sliced almonds. I was really craving overnight oats but since I failed to prep a batch last night, this yogurt and oat hodgepodge bowl was the next best thing.
This morning, as I made myself a cup of coffee, I honestly felt myself feel warmer inside before I even took a sip. I realized, then and there, just how much I love sipping on a hot beverage every morning.
A hot mug of coffee or tea makes me feel cozy, calm (well, until the caffeine kicks in) and just plain happier. That’s totally crazy, right!? Well, as I started to think about just how happy a hot morning mug of coffee or tea makes me, I began thinking of other things that make me happier than they should. Things that are great, but their greatness is really disproportionate to my love for them.
For example: Candles.
Candles are lovely, sure, but are they really that awesome? Probably not. But I really do adore the way lighting a candle can change the ambiance of a room and the way the strong smell of a holiday pine candle can take over our house and make it feel more homey.
More things I love more than I should:
- Clean sheets
- Pajamas
- Seafood
- Oversize cozy blankets
- Gel nail polish (a splurge I rarely do, but ohmygosh it lasts so much longer)
- Father of the Bride
- BodyPump
- Frozen yogurt
- The Pitch Perfect soundtrack
- Lip balm
- An empty email inbox (this is just a pipe dream, but oh how wonderful it would be)
- Mojitos
- Scarves
- Crafting
- Sparkling water
- Slippers
And then there are things I love way too much that I think are 100 percent deserving of all the love: My family, my best friends, Sadie, hiking, traveling, date nights, the mountains, reading, Christmas, dessert, massages and a homecooked meal.
I thought this might make a fun (and yes, totally random) topic for today’s blog post and I’d love to hear about things you love a little too much below!
Questions of the Morning
- What are some things you love more than you really should?
- What are some things you love that absolutely deserve your love and obsession?
Run Eat Play says
Things I love more than I should: the gym, my blanket on the couch, my remote car starter, and coffee!
Julie says
what is it about cozy blankets and curling up on the couch that is so amazing? i’m right there with you!
Amanda B says
I’m right there with you with a morning cup of coffee. It just makes me feel so much better (especially since I’m not a morning person)!
Also…Keith Urban. I love him probably a little too much. (This comes after a morning announcement that he is coming to Summerfest in Milwaukee! Woohoo!)
Julie says
awesome! hope you get to see him live!!
Jessica says
Oh no- I did not just see that Keith Urban is at Summerfest?! That is like my backyard. I will have to go!!
DAvon says
I love to get up really early on Saturday mornings and run ‘fun’ errands by myself. Target, craft stores etc.
Julie says
a trip to target is usually way too fun for me, too. well, my wallet doesn’t think so… 🙂
Mary Beth Richardson says
While I echo many of your loves, I will include beach days (*sigh….summer), that moment when my hubbs and I look at each other and smile at an inside joke, ummmmm PIZZA!, The Naked Bee lotion, and laughing so loud at a restaurant that people look and think about what’s so funny. When you laugh THAT hard, you’re having a great time! 😉
Ashley says
I too love gel polish way more than I should! Wish I could splurge on it more often! Other things I love more than I should: coffee (especially the first sip in my freezing office), Target, chardonnay and the wonderful instructors at my Y who I will soon be leaving as I’ve purchased a new house 🙁
Michelle @ Fit. Flexible. Fabulous. says
Lately I’ve been loving quiet evenings at home. I like being social from time to time, but I really do savor my alone time!
Julie says
you and me both 🙂
Leah @ goodnight, cheese says
Taking off bra and changing into sweats at the end of a long day. Knowing that friends are about to come over. House of Cards coming out soon. The little clay/ceramic elephant that used to live in my grandparents’ house and now lives in mine.
Also, pizza.
Julie says
love the elephant 🙂 (and HECK YES to house of cards!!!!!)
Zoe says
Knowing friends are about to come over and pizza! We’re soul sisters 🙂
Leah (goodnight cheese) says
yes! i basically named my blog in honor of pizza.
February 27 can’t come fast enough!
Courtney says
Taylor Swift, a fire on a cold night, and cheese dip!
Monica says
I’m so with you on the empty inbox thing! I have folders upon folders to file emails in because I can’t stand having clutter in my inbox. As I respond to one, it gets filed. Yesterday (for about 13 minutes) I actually achieved and empty inbox! It was glorious.
Other things… getting coffee from Starbucks, spending gift cards, having laundry completely done and put away (again, happens rarely, and for about 13 minutes…), having a clean house (which isn’t reality anymore…).
Tamara @ A Side Of Dessert says
I love this post, so fun! Things I love more than I should: coffee, dessert, clean towels, clean sheets and empty inbox!
Jamie says
Love this topic! I’d have to agree with almost all of yours (minus the seafood – bleh!). I’m currently sipping on some hot coffee, curled up on the couch w/ my pups and some fuzzy socks. Nothin’ better! 🙂
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Coconut yogurt, my wheatbag (like a hot water bottle but you heat it up in the microwave), spinning (I do WAY too many classes which my quads don’t thank me for!), homemade dairy free ice cream, my crockpot and pulled pork!
Clare @ Happy Eater says
Breakfast. No matter how early I need to wake up, I need at least 20 minutes to sit down and eat breakfast and drink coffee. I can’t recall the last time I skipped breakfast!
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned says
OMG Waffles! It is ridiculous how happy I am when it doesn’t stick to the iron, how happy I am when eating them, and how happy I am afterward hahaha
Julie says
LOL!!!!
Emily W. says
Things I love too much: seasonal/holiday candy and treats, staying in hotels, beach walks, coffee from coffee shops, being out on the boat, looking at coupons/ads for new items (and trips to target…)
Addison says
I have that same mug! Love the anthropologie home collection. 🙂
I love coffee mugs way more than I should! Having an assortment of cute ones is oddly this high priority for me. Haha!
Kathy says
Oh man, I am right there with you on the candles!! Other crazy loves of mine include yoga, over sized blankets, a warm beverage any time of day during the winter, a good book, an outdoor fire, and traveling!
Jessica says
I love just great nights with some of my best friends- like all of us in comfy clothes, cooking dinner together and having game night. Or when my family abandons me on the holidays but I have all the friends that invite me to be apart of their family. Sometimes the best memories are not the biggest moments but the small moments that you will remember forever. I love those times. I also love being woken up by my nephew, “auntie, auntie, wake up!” Or the feeling of booking a ticket for a trip/place I have never been. Also, love rainy days where I can sit in pjs all day and watch all the tv I want and pinterest all day long. Sat or Sun mornings where i just wake up, sit in my pjs and sip on coffee all day. … man you really got me thinking! … Being back together with my college friends, trying to make it like how it was when we were back in college- but nothing can compare.
Chelsi says
I love fall more than humanly possible…When I go outside on a beautiful fall day I have the biggest grin on my face…In my mind it’s like I’m a Disney princess walking around the woods with squirells, bunnies, and birds (my pup too of course) surrounding me like they are my friends and I can block out everything else in the world…but people probably look at me and think I’m crazy haha
Rachel says
You definitely need to look into the Sally Hansen “Miracle Gel” polish! It lasts for at least a week or two and looks just as great as a professional manicure. The polish isn’t much more expensive than the regular kind plus a top coat. I’m hoping that come out with some great spring colors soon.
B says
sunshine… the winter time in IL makes me apperciate it way more than the average person I am sure.. It just feels so good on my skin! I also love a good candle and Bodypump!!!
Emily Hartzell says
I totally agree with most all of yours! I would definitely add a gigantic glass of cold water, hot yoga classes (especially in the summer when you walk outside and the 80*+ weather now feels cool), and Third Eye Blind on the radio!! but I also love spending time with my partner, my puppies, and so many other things. It’s so nice to reflect on what we’re grateful for in our lives everyday! Thanks Julie!
Katie @ Katie Moves says
Clean sheets and towels!!! 🙂
Kelly Runs for Food says
I second the clean sheets! Best thing ever is taking a shower and shaving your legs right before getting into a bed with clean sheets. Is that weird? Either way, I love it.
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
Netflix marathons, coco butter chapstick, and my duvet comforter. Guilty as charged. The love is alive and real.
fitgirlprettyworld says
Love this! I love showers and the smell of coffee! 🙂
Michelle says
[copied over to the correct post…]
Oh this is so fun! Here’s my list:
-Coffee- any time of day! It’s not the caffeine fix I need, but my mother definitely instilled a straight up love of drinking coffee in me!
-throw blankets- especially super soft ones
-anything with cupcake or pancakes on it (no lie I have a pair of cupcake sleep shorts, and a keychain of a stack of pancakes!)
-perfectly smooth and trimmed fingernails (doesn’t happen very often)
-creeks, streams, little ponds and other hidden little bodies of water (this one’s just weird, but I love discovering them!)
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
My bathrobe, journals and notebooks, cuddles (okay maybe they are deserving), smoothies and running shoes/gym shoes!
Julie says
YES TO BATHROBES!!!
Brianna @ The Palos Life says
I love this post!!! 🙂 here’s my list of what I love more than I should:
Dr. Pepper
Clean sheets
My Simplified Planner by Emily Ley (organization nerd- can’t live without my planner)
Reese’s PB cups
Fuzzy socks
Harry Potter
Rainy days ( it hardly ever rains in west texas aka the desert)
Julie says
haha yes to harry potter! ryan and i will watch any one of the harry potter movies when we need something to make us feel happier!
skigirl0891 says
I adore buying “junk jewelry” as I so lovingly call it. You know the kind, from THAT store, where everything is just a few bucks? I know I may not wear it, and it will turn my fingers green kinda quick and wear off, but I gotta buy it!
More deserving…. the man of my dreams as my husband and these 2 much awaited baby boys I am carrying!
Angie Ballenger says
Things that I love more than I should. Right now it’s Coffee Mate’s Sugar Free Peppermint Mocha creamer for my coffee. It’s seasonal so I find myself searching high and low for this. The other day I bought the last five from the grocery store. I definitely love this more than I should. 🙂 Second, I love getting up super early on Saturday mornings and enjoying the first cup of coffee before anybody wakes up.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
Getting into PJs after work.
A fresh made bed.
Having painted and polished nails.
Fun post!!
Erin says
Love this post! Eggs in the morning, a good night sleep, monogrammed stationery, Costco, grocery shopping, Target shopping for nothing in particular, seasonal decorations, buying fresh cut flowers just for fun and … making list! haha
chareatsgreens says
Love me some mojitos too. I probably Sharpie fine point pens more than I should. How’s that for a completely random one?!
Claire says
I LOVE a good latte on a cold morning. I also love a clean house, fresh sheets and cozy pajamas. And my dog! I’m totally obsessed. 🙂
UnlockingKiki says
Nothing better than fresh sheets!
Skinny Fitalicious says
Peanut butter, chocolate, my running shoes, working out, my iPhone are my things I love more than I shiuld. I have no idea what we ever did before smart phones.
Natalie @ Never Serious Blog says
Girl I feel you on coffee and warm drinks! Just holding my mug relaxes me in a way I didn’t even know was possible! Perfect way to start my morning. Going on walks is something I love but rarely do. I’m either running for the “workout” or darting around town from one place to another. But a truly leisurely walk is something that I find so soothing and relaxing when I actually make time for it!
Ashley Sylvester says
Things I love that are totally deserve- Mountains, Hiking, long drives, sunrises and sunsets, just the SUN! Exploring…
Things I may love too much- Putting make-up on just right. My red lip stick. Competition! A good TV show or Movie! (I’m a hard sell on what many consider good, but I just started watching White Collar, and I’m hooked!) Cereal- Honey Bunches, pajama parties (basically dancing in my pjs). Katy Perry and Kanye West songs…
But honestly i think when we love lots of things, it comes out of a place a full gratitude; which I think is wonderful!
meredith @ Cookie ChRUNicles says
I love my morning coffee way too much! Someone once told me that it’s a proven fact that just holding a warm mug of something in your hands automatically makes you kinder and smiley versus someone without a warm beverage in their hands. I believe it.
Julie says
oh i believe that for sure!
Jayme says
Totally with you with big cozy blankets. When I moved out of my parents, the first thing I bought was 3 giant soft blankets! Well worth the money.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Fun question! Some things that come to mind for me are sunshine, clean sheets, the gym, coffee and when my favorite songs pop up on the radio or on Pandora.
Sarah @ Sarah's on the Run says
haha, okay, totally obsessed with candles too. And I can’t even smell that well. But I love how lighting one just makes the room feel cozier. 🙂
Julie says
yes!!
Alice @ Live Fit Love Chocolate says
I am the SAME way when it comes to my morning coffee! I have a little morning ritual where I wake up, make a cozy hot latte, and sit and doze off in front of the TV watching Downton Abbey while I drink it. It’s so cozy and centers me and gives me a little “me-time” in the morning before starting my day!
Leiah says
Fuzzy socks, the fireplace, weekends, online shopping (guilty pleasure), finding a good deal/coupon/sale, falling asleep early, the smell of rain in the fall, candles, pedicures, early morning sunshine in the summer, spring flowers, OMG I these things are making me so happy just thinking about them!
Sarah says
I’m really glad that you put the Pitch Perfect Soundtrack on that list. I also will go through periods where I’ll just binge listen to that soundtrack and have it on repeat for days! Other things include: going out of my way to step on a crunchy leaf or a thin icy patch because it sounds really cool, and reading by lamp light near a window!
Julie says
yes!! have you listened to the pitch perfect station on pandora? it’s a winner!!
Lauren W. says
It’s scary how similar my list is to yours (even Father of the Bride is my favorite movie)– my only addition would be having ALL of my clothes clean to choose from when I’m getting ready (very weird but its nice to be able to pick all of my favorites and have everything at my disposal haha!) and I would replace mojitos with red wine 🙂
My Cajun Trinity says
Wine…definitely wine! : )
Kelly says
Haha this is rather silly, but I am OBSESSED with the show Shark Tank. If there were a 48 hour marathon, I would stay wide awake to watch it (even though I’ve seen almost every episode) haha!
Julie says
haha!!
Lauren says
I agree with lip balm and gel polish. It’s expensive but worth the fact that it last and looks better. If I paint my nails at home no matter what it barely makes it a week, ugh. I also love nut butters, wool socks, running shoes, Keurig machines, and mini fruit more than I should!
