Three Things

August 16, 2012 by Julie 126 Comments

Three fun things from last night:

  • Cookies

flourless nutella cookies

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen these flourless Nutella cookies. Holy goodness. I didn’t measure the ingredients when I made them, but I’d imagine the proportions are similar to these flourless peanut butter cookies, but with a teaspoon of baking soda added in as well.

  • So You Think You Can Dance

After a two-week hiatus, this show is back! Ryan and I aren’t regularly watching any other shows at the moment (we’re anxiously awaiting the return of New Girl and Modern Family), so we were happy to chill on the couch, eat cookies and critique the dancers as if we actually knew what we were talking about last night. I’m still waiting for a dance from this season to top the “Misty Blue” or “My Chick Bad” routines that are two of my all-time favorites.  (Fun fact for my fellow UCF Knights: Tiffany is a UCF student!)

  • The arrival of Insurgent

insurgent

It’s no secret just how much I loved the book Divergent. (If you liked The Hunger Games, I cannot recommend Divergent enough. It’s a dystopian fan’s dream!) Insurgent is the sequel to Divergent and I actually preordered it months ago, but the credit card I used to preorder it expired, so I was never charged and it never showed up. I finally got around to ordering it on Monday and cannot wait to dive in. Ryan loved Divergent as well, so he’s just as pumped to read Insurgent as I am!

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was oh so good.

greek yogurt pancakes 003

Greek yogurt pancakes!

The texture of these pancakes gets me every time. They’re more eggy than basic buttermilk pancakes and I just love ‘em.

greek yogurt pancakes 010

Git in mah belly!

Question of the Morning

  • What was the last book you read that you absolutely loved?

I couldn’t tear myself away from Gone Girl, but I think Sarah’s Key was the last book I read that I could not stop talking about to everyone I knew (especially those who love WWII historical fiction). I read it in two days and thought it was amazing.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I received an email from Amazon the other day about my order. I had totally forgotten I’d ordered The Kill Order. The same thing happened with Insurgent. I have to finish another book before I start on either of those. We’re getting some rainy weather this weekend so it will be a good day to sit and read!

There’s a prequel?! I just finished The Death Cure and loved the series.

I picked up Divergent on a whim just hearing a little about it and it happened to be available at the library. I absolutely loved it and read Insurgent as soon as I could after. Now the wait for the 3rd..

I loved David Attenborough’s memoir “Life on Air.” He does the incredible BBC nature documentaries and it was so interesting to read about how fim technology changed, about being in so many different places, and about shifting attitudes towards “other” cultures. A great book!

I’ve met all the dancers every year and it’s definitely something that I look forward to. I haven’t watched last night’s episode yet, but I will be soon!!! That’s good to know about Sarah’s Key; I’ve had it on my list of books to read FOREVER but maybe now I will make it a higher priority.

I read Insurgent and liked it A LOT, but I thought it was a little more rushed than Divergent. It could also just be that the plot was just so suspenseful that by the time I was done reading I realized I had rushed through a lot and didn’t understand everything lol but that’s my own fault 😉

Loved the book – not the ending (won’t say more so as not to spoil, but can’t wait to read the reviews and hear what everyone thought!!)

Also – how do you get your greek yogurt pancakes to look so perfect??? I’ve tried twice and both times they were burnt on the outside and raw in the middle! I’m usually a great cook – so I must be doing something wrong! 🙁

It’s a bit gory, but it’s called “Jenny Pox” by JL Bryan. It was a freebie on Kindle a few months ago (might still be, actually), and I’d just finished the Hunger Games trilogy, so I dove right into this book about a girl who can’t touch people without giving them painful pox. One day, she meets her exact opposite who can actually heal people. It was seriously engrossing (and disturbing if you’re a Christian. The villain was supposedly “Christian,” but I don’t think she knows what being “Christ-like” is), and I would spend several hours reading it. I need to finish the series.

It must be a Nutella week. I bought some after work the other day and made PB/Nutella Almond Milk ice cream last night. Sooooooo good! I wish I could make crepes (I’ve tried. I’m terrible at it), because there’s a recipe on Pinterest for Nutella Crepe Cake. 🙂

This is off topic… but would you consider doing a post on what Ryan eats during the day? My husband is a law student and wants to avoid eating out at lunch this year. I’m terribly obsessed with The Hunger Games, but I really didn’t like Divergent. I had heard so many great things about it and really expected to love it, but I really thought the writing and plot were mediocre. I have no desire to read Insurgent because of how unimpressed I was with Insurgent. I recently read If I Stay by Gayle Forman, though, and that was one of the best books I’ve ever read. Simply fantastic.

Solid favorite SYTYCD routine picks, though I am 100% convinced nothing will ever top Allison and Ivan’s “Why” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH_5NSNYtoM. Kayla and Kupono also did a phenomenal job on Mia’s Addiction routine. The season two Ramalama group routine was also bomb. Gah. I’m obsessed with that routine.
