Today’s workout was only okay… mainly because I was waaay too chatty in the gym and half-assed my way through my usual routine.
I think my fellow gym-goers were in the same boat because everyone just seemed to want to talk about weekend plans. The workouts were second priority today!
I usually keep to myself at the gym and prefer to get in and get out without side conversation, but lately I’ve loved the music that my gym has been playing, which means my iPod is out of my ears. Apparently that makes you much more approachable!
I’ve actually enjoyed getting to know some of the people I see at the gym every morning. This also works well with my goal to “put myself out there socially” in our new town in 2012, so a so-so workout every now and then might be worth it if I gain a friend or two, right?
Wow, I sound like such a turd.
Anyway, today’s workout started with 20 minutes on the elliptical before it was time to tackle an upper-body workout that looked like this:
Now that I see my workout all typed out, it doesn’t really seem like a slacker workout, but I think my rest breaks were too long between sets so I didn’t really feel the burn that makes me feel like my workout was rockin’.
Next time!
My sister is staying with us in Ocala tonight (she’s going to the same wedding we are on Sunday as our friend/her boyfriend Ross’ date), so I’m hoping to do a quality circuit workout with her on Saturday morning!
Breakfast
Breakfast today was a new-to-me version of overnight oats.
Last night I combined oats, milk, chia seeds, vanilla protein powder and melted peanut butter and let it all sit and soak overnight. I was nervous about how the oats would turn out without the inclusion of Greek yogurt, but I think the chia seeds helped the mixture thicken quite nicely.
Topped off with a sliced banana this morning!
Blogger Congrats
I feel like there are so many wonderful life-changing milestones occurring with some of my blogger friends and I just had to take a second to give some shout outs!
- Congratulations to Gina, Shanna and Heather on the births of their gorgeous little babies!
- Congratulations to new mamas-to-be, Lisa and Heather!
- Congratulations to Brittany, Allison, Lindsay and Meghann on their wonderful engagements!
- Congratulations to Courtney on securing her first personal trainer job and Tina for taking a leap of faith and offering online personal training!
Anyone else now feel like they now need to go achieve something awesome today?
Question of the Morning
- What is something that recently happened (or is scheduled to happen) in your life that you’re especially excited about today?
Please share! I’m in the mood to read about happy things.
My answer: I’m really excited that two different freelance clients asked me to produce additional content for them in the future. Woo! And I’m really looking forward to the wedding of our friends’ Will and Alex this weekend. I’m so excited for them!
I had a comment on my blog from Angela! That was pretty amazing! 🙂 I need to join you on the “putting yourself out there socially” this year, blogging, makes it too easy to sit in 🙂
I’m almost 7 months away from my wedding! I cannot wait. Today is my mom’s birthday. I’m excited to celebrate with her tonight. Not to mention, I cannot wait to have a slice of birthday cake! 🙂
oh so exciting!! congrats to you! and happy birthday to your mama!
I just found out two close friends are both expecting babies this summer 🙂 But they aren’t the only ones, 5 other friends are expecting between April-August!
sounds like a big bowl of overnight oats deliciousness!! yummm. i’ve never done the melty PB mixed in overnight! i’ll need to try that.
you’re right, there’s bloggers all over within the HLB community that are having exciting things happen left and right – it’s so fun to read all the stories! i feel like my life is kind of boring at the moment. haha! have a great weekend, julie!
my life is boring, too, don’t worry. we can’t all have amazing milestones happen all the time, right? 🙂
Good for you for making friends at the gym! I love how I always see the same people each morning – it’s kind of comforting living in a big city.
I’m excited that our save the dates are going out soon! 🙂 something little, but exciting to me!
Have a great time with your sis and at the wedding!
So much fun stuff happened in the blog world this week– thanks for linking it all up here!
Hmm… this was a big week for me– new apartment and new position at work!
I read all those blogs and seeing it all written out in one place it’s kind of crazy how many good things are happening out there right now in our “little world” haha that makes ME sound like a turd now.
Have fun at the wedding this weekend!
This didn’t happen to me, but I”m super excited that the state troopers (who my husband has been on a waiting list for 4 yrs now for) have FINALLY lifted their hiring freeze in the state of NY. Woohoo for a budget!
that is so exciting!! great news for sure. 🙂
I really feel like the blog world is all grown up! So much is happening for people! And it makes me happy!
You don’t sound like a turd at all, because I was just thinking the same thing recently about socializing in the gym! As for exciting things in my life, there are LOTS going on right now, but one is that I’m signing up for a half marathon today! 🙂
So mine is kinda gross…but I started my period. This makes me happy because it is my second normal period since mine and Keith’s miscarriage and this means we officially have the green light from my OBG to start trying again! Baby steps…but steps in the right direction!
oh kelly, that is fantastic. sending lots of healthy baby wishes your way.
My friend Nicole (avid pbf reader) 🙂 just got engaged last night! Super excited for her!
congratulations to nicole! what wonderful news!
I love the idea of meeting people at the gym. I am also trying to put myself out there in my new city. It’s way harder to meet people when you’re not in HS or college surrounded by people who want friends too. Time to kick my booty into gear and meet some people!
I was wondering about your workouts. When you post the sets and reps, do you do one exercise 3 times in a row or supersets? Just curious. Thanks!
one exercise three times in a row (usually w/ about a 30 – 45 sec. rest), unless i note that they were completed in a superset. 🙂
It’s the weeeeekeenddd!!
I just graduated from college on Sunday 🙂
Congrats to all those bloggers- I LOVE the recaps!
I’m heading to my bachelorette party this weekend! We all live in different places now, so it will be great to see everyone. And when I get back, only one month until my wedding day!
AH! you will have the BEST time! congrats on your upcoming wedding, mary kathryn!
ah i hate when people talk to me in the gym! i leave my headphones in at all times (even when i’m not even listening to music). I’m terrible!
I’ve lost 3 pounds this week which means I’ve lost all of my Christmas gain. And I feel like I’m well on my way back to being healthy and loving every minute of it.
Also, I start a second job in two weeks working with teen moms. And I seriously could not be more excited about it. Working 60 hours a week is going to be tough but so, so rewarding!
Oh my goodness Julie, thank you so much! You are so sweet :D. That is so awesome that people want you to continue writing things for them…you are such a fabulous writer! Two exciting things for me this week- I posted a vlog (which is part 1) about my experience with disordered eating, AND I found my wedding dress yesterday!!! YAY :D.
I got engaged in Nov! So now the wedding planning has begun.
I am headed to St. Louis in the morning to visit my best friend at Barnes- Jewish Hospital! That doesn’t sound like something to be excited about, but she was extremely ill last week and pretty much needed a miracle to recover, and now she is responding to her medication and getting better as each day passes. I can’t wait to see her, her husband, and the rest of her family.
Oh and… my iPhone is scheduled to arrive today, pretty excited for that 🙂
I almost have a 1-year internship at an amazing company secured. I’m sooo excited and have my fingers crossed day and night and really hope it will all work out!
I’ve noticed the same thing–as soon as I put my iPod away, people become much more social towards me! But, it does sound like you got in a great workout!
I’m excited/nervous about starting my last semester of college on Tuesday! I can’t believe how fast the past 3 1/2 years have gone by!
I’m excited for the first restaurant week in Pittsburgh next week – I have reservations at 4 awesome places for a great price!
My husband usually works 12-16 hour days 7 days a week but will be home from 1-7 today…family day and one happy 3 year old!
one small thing that i’m excited about is a 3 day weekend this weekend (the little things!)
i’m excited that i’ve almost been at my first “real” job for 5 months already! times flies!
I talk to people occasionally in classes, but not some much while I’m working out. Maybe I should make myself more approachable, too. Nothing major in my life quite yet, but my first half marathon is in less than 4 weeks, and I get to go to warm, sunny CA for it!
Now that almost my kids are in school I’ve decided to go to school myself. This coming Tuesday I’ll be starting classes at our local community college, and my husband is going back to finish his degree!
I’m SO looking forward to my first marathon. Seven weeks from Sunday! Plus, I’m now hitting training distances I’ve never done before so each week is a new ‘longest run ever’!
Well my milestone is that I have finally restored my weight and am healthy and HAPPY again after years of an ED. I now can go back to living my life that I love:)
So happy for you that your putting yourself out there socially! Definately hard to do in a new town, so good for you. Congrats to all the above named girls 🙂 I had to share this with you: tried chia seeds for the first time EVER this morning (gasp) and fell in love! I tried them because of always reading about them on your blog so thank you!!!!
I’m jealous of your chattiness, no one at my gym talks! I guess that’s how it is when you go to a big gym in a big city!
I’m really excited I have a 3 day weekend! And about the Saints vs. 49ers playoff game Saturday! And my best friends baby shower Saturday, which means I get to see a lot of old friends.
I’m excited to head to Clearwater and do wedding stuff with Leah all weekend! Woo!
I’m looking forward to my birthday in a few weeks, and the Patriots/Bronco’s game on Saturday night! Go Pats!
I’m the guest poster at MizFitOnline today, that’s super boss! OH, and signed up for classes toward my MSN yesterday!
this arrives today: http://www.mealmovement.com/.
i believe that “plans” of this sort are best for a specific need…i’m usually fit and healthy but just need a kick-start. i want to lose a few post-medical stuff and just need to get into a better mindset. it is aimed at just that sort of user and is much more real food than some others. nervous about my resolve, but hoping it works well.
My husband bought and moved into our first house Jan. 1st. I started a new job at a law firm a week later, and today I’m mailing my bar application! whoo hoo!! Happy Friday!
Our first wedding anniversary is Sunday (so tell your friends it is indeed an excellent day to get married!), and I think my morning sickness might finally (FINALLY) be going away, or at least getting better. Two things to celebrate!
(Also, I have a feeling you are might be the “chatty blonde girl” my husband was describing from the gym this morning, which is kind of hilarious.)
I’m looking forward to my two year anniversary with my boyfriend at the place we met – Atlantic City!
I signed up for my first half! I’m so nervous and excited at the same time!
Have a great weekend, Julie!
My husband and I adopted a puppy a couple weeks ago so that was a big and exciting change for us!!
Last week I put in my notice that I was leaving my job that I hated! I start my new one on Tuesday and I can’t wait!! Congrats on your good news! Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
My husband and I started http://blognamedbrew.blogspot.com/ and I love the challenge of writing in my own voice. I do a ton of writing for other people and forgot about myself for a long time. We also have two major trips planned for this year – one is bittersweet (scattering my mom’s ashes) and the other is super exciting (two weeks in CA/OR touring craft breweries)!!!
Marci
I love all your congrats to so many awesome ladies up there.
I also (still) love that Ross is your friend/Leslie’s boyfriend. the cuteness gets me every time.
Yes! This month has been awesome for bloggers! Let’s hope the trend continues for 2012 🙂
Congrats to you too, Julie!
I’m about to be a mommy too — little boy is due March 27th 🙂
I just got a full-time job! I’ve been working freelance at this publication for the past six months, and they just made me a permanent staffer with the new year. So excited!
And congrats to you!
I just found out my sister + her hubby are unexpectedly visiting next week 🙂
Today’s my little munchkins 7th birthday! I’m so excited; we just had sprinkle pancakes!
I’m looking forward to my birthday on the 25th! I’m hoping 24 will be a great year. I’m also looking forward to possibly becoming a personal trainer 🙂
I’m excited for my wedding this summer! I’m not looking forward to finishing the planning… I really thought I would enjoy it more! But so far everything other than finding my dress + my bridesmaids dresses has been stressing me out!
