Today’s workout was only okay… mainly because I was waaay too chatty in the gym and half-assed my way through my usual routine.
I think my fellow gym-goers were in the same boat because everyone just seemed to want to talk about weekend plans. The workouts were second priority today!
I usually keep to myself at the gym and prefer to get in and get out without side conversation, but lately I’ve loved the music that my gym has been playing, which means my iPod is out of my ears. Apparently that makes you much more approachable!
I’ve actually enjoyed getting to know some of the people I see at the gym every morning. This also works well with my goal to “put myself out there socially” in our new town in 2012, so a so-so workout every now and then might be worth it if I gain a friend or two, right?
Wow, I sound like such a turd.
Anyway, today’s workout started with 20 minutes on the elliptical before it was time to tackle an upper-body workout that looked like this:
Now that I see my workout all typed out, it doesn’t really seem like a slacker workout, but I think my rest breaks were too long between sets so I didn’t really feel the burn that makes me feel like my workout was rockin’.
Next time!
My sister is staying with us in Ocala tonight (she’s going to the same wedding we are on Sunday as our friend/her boyfriend Ross’ date), so I’m hoping to do a quality circuit workout with her on Saturday morning!
Breakfast
Breakfast today was a new-to-me version of overnight oats.
Last night I combined oats, milk, chia seeds, vanilla protein powder and melted peanut butter and let it all sit and soak overnight. I was nervous about how the oats would turn out without the inclusion of Greek yogurt, but I think the chia seeds helped the mixture thicken quite nicely.
Topped off with a sliced banana this morning!
Blogger Congrats
I feel like there are so many wonderful life-changing milestones occurring with some of my blogger friends and I just had to take a second to give some shout outs!
- Congratulations to Gina, Shanna and Heather on the births of their gorgeous little babies!

Anyone else now feel like they now need to go achieve something awesome today?
Question of the Morning
- What is something that recently happened (or is scheduled to happen) in your life that you’re especially excited about today?
Please share! I’m in the mood to read about happy things.
My answer: I’m really excited that two different freelance clients asked me to produce additional content for them in the future. Woo! And I’m really looking forward to the wedding of our friends’ Will and Alex this weekend. I’m so excited for them!

I am training for a half marathon and just finished my 10 mile run! Whew that was a tough one. How am I going to make it another 3.1 miles after that? Maybe I should pray that my legs go numb! 😉
Claire @ livingspreethegoodlife.wordpress.com says
I defend my dissertion poposal one week from today, after which point I will be “ABD”, or “All But Dissertation” and can conceivably start applying for tenure-track prof positions. It’s been such a long, stressful, and yet wonderful road to get to this point through my years working and my masters degrees and doctoral coursework. I’ll be one step closer of meeting my goal of being a Dr. by age 30 🙂

There are so many things going on that I feel like I am starting to take them for granted!! Does that ever happen to you?
I am going to Las Vegas next weekend with my boyfriend, which we have done before, but I always look forward to it because it’s one of the few times we let loose and don’t have to worry about much!
Tina @ Best Body Fitness says

Hi Julie,
When you don’t add greek yogurt to overnight oats…how much of the chia seeds do you add to thicken it up quite a bit? (do you mind listing the ratio of oats, chia seeds, milk/water?)
Thanks 🙂 have a great day
Katy says
Lots to celebrate!! And those overnight oats sound tasty! I went with blueberry greek yogurt mixed with oatmeal and chia seeds this morning =)
and something I’m excited about is that my adorable Vizsla puppy is coming home in one week!!!

What a great month January has been for some really amazing bloggers!!!
Something that I’m looking forward to, that’s making me happy, is sleeping in tomorrow. That’s not a really huge deal, but after being off for a whole three weeks, getting into the routine of the working world is tough!
Rebecca says
my birthday is saturday and i’m starting back at college in just a week; i’m going to become a psychiatrist and i’m stoked!
Chelsa says
The overnight oats look so good. I used to eat oats and Greek yogurt everyday for the longest time but it would make my stomach distended and crampy. I think my body has a hard time digesting milk products, but I can still enjoy cheese in moderation.
Something exciting… I’m coming to your state in 2 weeks. We rent a house in Miami. Anything beats this coldness we have up north!!
Chelsea @ Go Chelsea Go! says
I am excited, because both my fiance and I have job interviews in the next two weeks! He’s trying to switch jobs after getting his masters, and I’m trying to get my first full-time/salaried/post-law school job!
Crossing my fingers for both of our interviews, because I know we are both super excited for the jobs we would be doing if we got hired!

And I must agree with the iPod ear buds = nonsocial butterfly. Sometimes I find myself so into my jams that I don’t even notice someone trying to get my attention lol. I always apologize and take my buds out and lower my music. Its a love hate relationship I feel. I love listening to music that pumps me up and pushes me through sets but at the same time I love small chatting on some days with fellow gym goers. I’m gonna do my best to this week to work on doing a little of both!
Working on getting a nursing internship in downtown Chicago for the summer. Hopefully hearing from them soon!
Heather @ For the Love of Kale says
Congrats on your freelance opportunities, Julie! That’s so exciting. There’s really nothing like hard work paying off. 🙂
I was really excited this weekend because I was featured in Gena’s Green Recovery series, which highlights recovery from eating disorders via a plant-based lifestyle. It was such an honor and felt SO good to spread love and inspiration to others. Here is a link to the post: http://www.choosingraw.com/green-recovery-heathers-positive-affirmations/

Today I’m most excited that it’s officially less than four months till I graduate with my Masters! And I’m really excited because my last two classes started this week. I’ve been trudging through Masters work for the past three years, and the light at the end of the tunnel is definitely visible now!
Those overnight oats sound yummy!

I totally know what you mean by having a too chatty of a morning at the gym. I don’t want to come off to people as cold, but some mornings I just want to focus on my workout ~ crank up the tunes and go to town!
Anyway…something exciting….hmmm…..well, we are meeting with a kitchen remodeler on monday to decide on plans for a kitchen overhaul! Definitely excited for a change!

Way to go with chatting up fellow gym go-ers!
I need to take a page from your book, as I moved across the country in September, and have been feeling super anti-social.
On a related note: I’m excited today because my boyfriend is looking into transferring Law schools so we can move back to BC! Hurray!

I am looking forward to graduating with my bachelors degree in psychology in spring and hopefully in summer starting to work on my masters degree in occupational therapy:)
Hillary says
I’m getting a bit ahead of myself, but I’ll be graduating with my Master’s in education next May (2013)—the same semester my boyfriend will graduate with his PhD. Not only is this exciting for obvious reasons, but it will also mean the END of our five years of being long distance.
To say I’m excited would be an understatement!
Ellie@Fit for the soul says
That’s awesome that you got to know some people! I’m hoping that I’ll get to talk to more people. But in my gym there seems to be WAY more men than women! And the girls don’t seem too interested in talking haha. I’ll try though.
And those are all such great milestones for those ladies! I feel like I need to save the world now, jk 😛 I’m getting more excited about the wedding in march! Can’t believe it’s almost here.
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Great question! Sadly, I don’t have anything super exciting coming up soon … however, I do have a half marathon scheduled for April in Nashville, and hubby and I are going on a Mediteranean cruise in July. So I’m already looking forward to those events!! 😉
