Tonight’s dinner was a little too saucy.
I love teriyaki chicken, but I think I made a little too much teriyaki sauce and the broccoli florets I added to the sautéed chicken soaked it right up.
I felt like I was eating sauce with a side of chicken and broccoli.
I still polished off my bowl, but next time I’ll be a little less liberal with the sauce.
The World’s Friendliest Toddler
After dinner, Ryan and I bundled up and took Sadie on a walk around the neighborhood.
(I’m pretty sure that picture is a candidate for AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com.)
During our walk, an adorable little boy wandered down his driveway, asking whether or not Sadie was a nice dog. We told him she was really nice but a little shy. (Sadie has a bad habit of doing the “bob and weave” around strangers and prefers to love on people she knows.)
As the kid got closer to us he said, “Hi! You guys can come over any time you want.” (Seriously. That was his intro line.)
Then he ran up and hugged Ryan’s face.
Then he hugged me and my heart melted.
He was the sweetest little boy and his dad came out of the garage and waved to us, obviously understanding that he raised the world’s friendliest toddler.
Ryan then said to me, “I guess that’s how they raise kids in Ocala.”
Ever since our move, we have noticed that the people in Ocala are incredibly friendly. They wave at everyone and nearly all of our new neighbors have taken the time to introduce themselves.
I absolutely love Orlando, but it’s definitely a city of transplants, which I think makes it lack a little bit of that “hometown” feel. People rarely wave at each other unless you really recognize someone and I guess I just got used to that. I’m gradually adjusting to the whole “make sure you wave at everyone you see” thing and I’m loving it.
When we got home from our chilly walk, it was time for peppermint hot chocolate.
Dessert in a cup. Mmm!
Hoping to sneak in an hour of reading tonight.
Enjoy your evening!

That is so nice. My boyfriends hometown is the same way and I was blown away the first time I got there. It took us forever to just get through the grocery store! It was a nice change of pace though.

I have got to find time to sneak in an hour of reading soon as well. After all, we’re nearing the end of January and I am NOT nearing the end of night circus yet. I like it, just haven’t had time!

Aw, kids can be so sweet [or so awful] sometimes! Happenings like that always make me wanna jump the gun and have a kid of my own! Even after spending 5 days a week with middle schoolers, I’m still wanting haha 😛
P.S. What teriyaki sauce do you use?! I picked up a bottle from TJ’s the other day that [my] Ryan and I like the flavor of but think it’s a little too runny…

Seriously … that is the sweetest thing. EVER! I LOVE that hometown, wave at everyone and smile thing. I wish it were like that everywhere! Through my travels I have found that the wonderful wave at everyone theme is more common in smaller towns and in the southern states. I would love to sometime live in one of these areas. Chicago is fantastoramic, but not exactly known for friendliness 😉

Ahh I just saw in the other comments that you haven’t started! Hope you like it when you do start! Give it a few pages… it takes a minute to kick off and get really interesting.
