Good morning to you!
Let’s start the day off with a big breakfast sandwich, shall we?
Four steps to success: Toasted whole wheat English muffin + Cheese + 2 eggs + Avocado
So good!
Top Twitter Users in Your Area
Twitter users = Tweeters? I don’t know. Twitter is so weird.
Does anyone else feel totally lame when they talk about Twitter? Just saying “I tweeted” makes me giggle because, really, the word is just ridiculous and sounds a lot more like a nickname for flatulence than a status update of some sort.
The other day I saw a list of the top Twitter users in the word. I immediately had Ryan guess the number one tweeter and he was at a loss.
It’s the Biebs, of course!
Best buds.
According to Twitaholic, the top 10 Twitter users based on their number of followers include:
As I kept reading down the list, I said, “Who in the world is Kaka?” which made Ryan laugh because I put the emPHAsis on the wrong syllABLE. (For those of you in the dark like me, Kaká is a famous soccer player and you don’t say his name like caca. There’s an extra emphasis on the final “a.”)
Since I was already way too interested in the top Twitter users in the world, I then popped over to Tweet Grader, a website I learned about at the Central Florida Blogger and Social Media conference. The site lists the top Twitter users based on their number of followers in certain areas.
Since I don’t live in a major city with a professional sports team or anything like that, I was quite curious to see the top Twitter users in Ocala. (A photographer, Kent Weakley, and “The Brain Guy,” Doug Bench, claimed the top two spots.)
I figured some of you guys might share my amusement for odd things like this and might get a kick out of this little tool, too!
So I ask you…
- Who is the top Twitter user in your area? Have you heard of them before?
Click here to type in your location to investigate!
Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach says
Shocker… WWE dominates the list in my area (Stamford, CT) with their various handles and personalities! Cool thing is that I know some of them! 🙂 http://tweet.grader.com/location/?Location=stamford%2C+ct
Ashley @ Running Bun says
AHH I love it! Vince McMahon donated a TON of money to my college so he spoke at my graduation. It was HILARIOUS. He spoke about how he got where he was and DIDN’T graduate college! BEST college graduation speech ever.
Amy @ Writing While Running says
I am sure I wouldn’t know who it is so I won’t even check. I just started using twitter more recently but I feel like there is a certain etiquette about it that I don’t get. So I agree that twitter is weird. Fun though, but weird.
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige says
Completely random, but based off the positivity of tweets sent out, the town I live in in Colorado was listed as the #2 happiest city in the country! lol
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
aw, i love that!!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
WOW! That sandwich looks to die for! Bread (gotta have carbs!), eggs, cheese, AND avocado? The only thing that might make that better is a little hummus or salsa. I am almost drooling just looking at it. Maybe I should have eaten breakfast by now… 😉
I…don’t use Twitter! So I do not know much about it :).
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
This is really interesting! I use Twitter a lot lately, and I find it’s become my biggest source of blog traffic. I connect with a lot of other bloggers there too.
I usually calll Twitter users “Tweeps,” like a combo of Twitter and peeps.
The top Twitter user in my area is a Font company I’ve never heard of. #12 for my area is actually a photographer I go to church with, though. That’s a pretty neat website!
Beckett @ The Birchwood Pie Project says
Ha! Apparently there are no twitter users in my area (Ohio). Love the sandwich, I will have to stock up on avocados. Hummus is another great addition to an eggwich.
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
That breakfast sandwich looks amazing!! I think it’s the avocado; I’m all about avocado lately. YUM!
Lindsey says
Neat site, I know most of the top 50 and follow them and I am in there too!! Near the bottom but that’s okay 🙂
Kait - @runkaitrun says
OBVI i’m one of the top tweeters in Baltimore 😉 (kidding)
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I didn’t realize that there was a website to check such a thing! I actually follow some of the top tweeters in my area, Philly! Pretty cool 🙂
That breakfast sandwich looks yummy!!
Carly @ Snack Therapy says
Hahhaa, I will never be able to say “I tweeted” without laughing ever ever again. That is too funny!
Avery @ Southern Belle Living Well says
Oh gosh, I don’t even understand Twitter. Technically, I have one, but it just doesn’t make much sense to me, so I don’t really end up using it that often. Oh well!
Erin @ Axell's Kitchen says
I just cannot bring myself to use Twitter! I don’t know why it just seems so strange haha!
Umm that breakfast sandwich looks delicious!!
Cait says
ay yay yay Barack Obama should have more important things to do than twitter… Other than that, the list is not surprising!
Melissa says
What a funny list… Whole Foods and Olympic swimmer Ricky Berens were among my area’s top tweeters (Austin, TX). I also noticed you’re number 3 in Ocala (not to be ultra creepy haha) so congrats 😉
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
What a fun idea! I’m totally looking up my town later. Thanks!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
That’s too funny about the Kaka thing… I was totally in the dark before you explained it!
And wow, your breakfast sandwich looks pretty much perfect. Yum!
peanutbutterfingers says
glad i’m not the only one! 😀
Erin says
Julie! You totally failed to mention that YOU are number 3 on the Ocala list! I kind of had a suspicion that you would definitely be on the list if not toward the top, so I checked it out. Way to go!! I’m proud to say I follow a member of the Ocala Twitter Elite.
Corey @ When We Wander says
The top twitter user in my town is the magazine “Fine Cooking” which makes sense because they are located right in my town!
Caitlin says
I know and have even seen Kaka play, all due to the 2010 FIFA world cup.
I follow 4 of the top 10 in my area and yes I know of and follow number 1 – he is a local DJ
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
How cool, I’m going to have to check out that site! And I love that 4 celebrities are higher than the president, we have our priorities straight! Granted I don’t follow the president on twitter… Perhaps I should…
Ashley @ Life and Fitness says
For some reason I though Ashton Kutcher would have been on the top 10 list. I feel like he’s always being mentioned on the news/radio about Twitter.
Katie @ running4cupcakes says
I am trying to use twitter more. . . but it is a funny and wierd thing! And that breakfast sandwich looks awesome. Love all that avocado.
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
Not surprising to see Beiber at #1 and I knew Lady Gaga had lots of followers too.
I have not yet been bitten by the twitter bug. I guess since I have Facebook I do my family/friends updates on there. Seems kinda funny to do random “tweets” like “I am eating lunch right now” and “Where is my sweater”. Plus, I can’t figure out the whole hashtag thing – it gets in the way of the message! 🙂
Cathryn says
Twitter is just so silly. I don’t get it and really never have. I feel so stupid when I “Tweet” because I’m just like, really? Who cares if I’m eating french fries?
peanutbutterfingers says
i feel the same way! i like it for connecting w/bloggers & blog readers the most.
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I completely agree although I have found it useful for connecting to readers like Julie said. I strictly use it for blog related stuff.
Samantha says
I have never gone over to the ‘dark side’ aka twitter. I honestly don’t know what the difference is between twitter and facebook. I only use Facebook about 1-2 times per week anyways. It just seems like such a waste of a time and it’s so annoying some of the garbage people post. Like how people post their entire day as they go through it.
Steph says
Those eggs look incredible! “Tweeting” feels so commonplace to my generation, I never even thought twice about how weird the word is. Now I’ll laugh every time I “tweet.” And I can believe Justin Bieber is number one – he tweets nonstop. Immediate unfollow!
Michelle says
That breakfast sandwich looks amazing! Really makes me wish I ate something this morning!
Jessica @fromthekitchentotheroad says
I have a twitter account but I don’t really know what to do with it. My new blog posts go on there but that is mostly it. I should figure it out.
Elizabeth @ myneonrunningshoes says
Marquis Trillis apparently big in Houston… and I have never heard of him haha. I’m guessing he might be a rapper?
Melissa says
Whole Food is #2 in Austin, TX which is very fitting for Austin!! I follow them so I know the deals going on. That way they don’t turn into whole paycheck!
Sarah@Making Thyme for Health says
I know it is a great way to connect with others, but I am so confused by twitter! I’ve been using it recently but honestly have no idea what I’m doing.
Alissa @ Roll of the Spice says
The only name I recognized in the top 10 for Cleveland was Michael Symon from Iron Chef. He has a few really amazing restaurants in the city. Besides that I’d never heard of any of the others!
That breakfast sandwich looks amazing. Avocado is so tasty.. takes everything up a notch!
Deb @ Dietitian Debbie Dishes says
I just moved to Chicago, so I was curious to find out who the biggest twitter celebrity was in the area! 🙂 Of course the Chicago Bulls were up there, but also singer/actress Michelle Williams and Robert Ebert – the film critic? Who knew?!
peanutbutterfingers says
i <3 chicago!!!
sammy says
I live that breakfast! I like it with tomato! Sometimes I’ll but it in a wrap!
Sonja @ The {Happy} Travel Bug says
That sandwich looks delish! Puts my breakfast to shame!
So the top tweeter in my town is some insurance guy named David. Lame!
Jeannie says
I’m surprised by the lack of actors listed in the Top Ten. I figured they would mainly be individuals from current pop culture scenes, but who knew it was only musicians with interesting things to say? =P This is worldwide though, right? So I guess music really is universal?
Maureen says
OH MY GOSH! So glad you mentioned this list! I looked under the area where I live and I am ranked #9!!! WHAT THE WHAT?!?! My day has been made! 🙂
Katie says
Oo interesting site. I’ve never heard of my top twitter users, which I find strange because I live in San Diego.
Molly from LifesLemons says
Why am I not surprised?
Amber says
lol. Juicy j is top for me! Gotta love Memphis!
alyssa @ life a la wife says
I live in Hoboken so cake boss is in the top tweeters for us!
Heather @fitncookies says
This is so fun! I live in Pittsburgh, but a smaller area called South Park. When I first searched for that, all I got was the show South Park! I tried Pitsburgh and it was some person I have never heard of- a mother and grandmother! Surprising! Haha
joelle (on a pink typewriter) says
Haha I have no idea who tweets the most in my area, but I’d be the local weather guys — they LIVE for a fake snowstorm (ahem, today) or any mention of rain…. because obviously DC needs more news, right? 😉
Sharsti@theblondehairblueeyedrunner says
I think twitter is so weird too! I don’t get it, but then again I’m pretty outside the whole follow celeb world haha
julia says
The author of Divergent and Insurgent, Veronica Roth, is one of the top tweeters in my area! (Evanston, IL) I thought that was a cool one!
Lily @ Candied-Life says
Wow, that breakfast sandwich is LEGIT!! I had mashed avocado on millet chia bread, toasted, with olive oil and sea salt this morning. It was delicious but definitely lacked after seeing how awesome the eggs and cheese look on yours 🙂
Maureen @ Breaking Free & Finding Me says
I’ve never heard of that site before! So fun! and my top tweeters were so random! haha
Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots says
ha thats really cool! Lots of ESP and WWE going on in good old CT.
Chamois says
For my short fiction workshop class I had to write a Twitter conversation and had no idea what I was doing! It took about two hours of research before I could get comfortable with the form of how to recreate one of those things. That site you posted is too funny! Among the top twitter-ers in my area, Cleveland, Ohio is a musician I’ve never heard of, a crazy member of the NRA who wants to impeach Obama and try him with Treason (some people have too much time on their hands, literally), and (yay!) chef Michael Symon!
