Ryan taught me a new move at the gym today involving the TRX straps.

TRX hamstring curls are no joke. I hope I can walk tomorrow. My hamstrings were burning in a way they’ve never burned before.
Ryan told me to try doing the curls one leg at a time… continuously. Sweet Jeebus.
Today’s workout included the hamstring curls in this leg workout:
Exercise | Reps | Sets |
Lunges (one leg at a time) | 15 | 3 |
Single leg squats (one leg at a time) | 15 | 3 |
Squats | 15 – 20 | 3 |
Deadlifts | 15 | 3 |
One-legged leg press | 15 | 3 |
TRX hamstring curls | 15 | 1 |
TRX hamstring curls (alternating legs) | 10 | 3 |
Step ups (with no weight) | 90 seconds | 1 |
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was nice and basic.
Whole grains + Fresh fruit + Healthy fat + Protein
Honey and peanut butter are such a winning combination.
A simple fruit salad rounded out the meal with chopped apple and white nectarine.
Birthday Cake Discussions
Last night Ryan and I started talking about birthday cakes. His birthday is next week and I asked him if red velvet was still his favorite kind of cake or if his tastes have changed at all.
He surprised me when he said that he was craving marble cake with buttercream icing at the moment!
I have to think my family is rubbing off on him because marble cake was always my dad’s number one birthday cake choice and mine as well up until a couple of years ago when our whole family seemed to shift to red velvet (with buttercream icing, not the traditional cream cheese icing). Marble cake still pops up frequently in the Bream household.
I can’t help but love the fact that Ryan’s two favorite cake flavors are my two favorites as well. Ryan’s third runner up is Funfetti cake which is another one of my favorites. I actually talked about making Funfetti cake our wedding cake!
Speaking of wedding cake… I can’t wait to bust out the top tier of our cake our wedding cake from the freezer to enjoy on our anniversary. It’s been calling to me from the back of my parents’ freezer every time we visit them in St. Pete.
I wish we would’ve saved a piece of the groom’s cake, too!
Go Bulls!
Questions of the Morning
- What is your favorite kind of cake?
- What flavor was your wedding cake or what flavor would you want it to be?
- What was the best wedding cake you ever had?
My favorite cake is red velvet with buttercream icing, which was also the flavor of our wedding cake. The best wedding cake I’ve ever had at another wedding was pumpkin spice wedding cake. It was fantastic and was served in the spring because the bride loved it so much and wasn’t about to let the seasons dictate her wedding cake!

I love marble cake, but my absolute favorite is chocolate with chocolate icing. But, cake is cake. I’m not too picky. I won’t turn a piece down.
Also, I’m going to shamelessly plug my participation in the Alzheimer’s Walk this weekend and post a link to my donation page for anyone interested in donating to the cause to end Alzheimer’s. 🙂

plug, away!! 😀

My favorite kind of cake is funfetti!! Totally. But the best part is really the frosting. We had every kind of cake at our wedding. They were all made by friends. It was wonderful. The best part was that my husband and I took a box of cake on our honeymoon!! YUM!! 🙂
Kristin says
First, I LOVE TRX! It looks like Gillian from SF left you some information, but I also wanted to share their website and facebook page with you. You can find great how-to videos and other resources if you’re interested in learning more TRX exercises!

Second, cake! My favorite cake is anything with chocolate. The best wedding cake I ever had was the mos delicious, moist carrot cake, with thick cream cheese frosting.
peanutbutterfingers says
awesome! thanks!
Allison @ PickyEatingRD says
That Bullls cake is pretty awesome. I am not showing that one to my bf he would def. request that if/when we ever get married!
peanutbutterfingers says
if you do get married, you should surprise him with it! ryan had no idea this was his groom’s cake until the day of the wedding. 🙂
Allie @ PickyEatingRD says
Ok well now a surprise is a perfect idea. Otherwise I can envision my entire wedding cake becoming a sports themed mess!
Britne @ Shabbott's Habits says
That’s so funny about the FUNFETTI WEDDING CAKE because my husband and I ACTUALLY DID THAT! We had two choices: Chocolate or Funfetti. Everyone’s favorite was the funfetti! I was excited about eating the top tier too, but unfortunately it was a little dry from being in the freezer. We actually ordered a little mini cake from the same baker that did our wedding cake so that we had something tasty to celebrate with after taking our obligatory bites of 1-yr old cake.
peanutbutterfingers says
how cool!!!
Steph says
Funfetti is such a cute idea for a wedding cake !!
My favorites are carrot cake and red velvet.. and the icing has to be just right (because lets be honest.. icing is the best part).
Jaime says
Good luck with the anniversary wedding cake. I had heard from our friends that it wouldn’t be so tasty. So, instead of waiting for our 1 year anniversary, I cut our top layer into 12 pieces, vacuum sealed each piece, and then froze it. We got married on 4/4/09, so we ate a piece on the 4th of each month!
I also, just had this conversation with my husband. He was craving marble cake too. How funny!
peanutbutterfingers says
that is such a neat idea! did they taste progressively worse?
Lena says
The TRX is intense! You should try doing your ab workouts on it; they’re killer. I actually do a TRX boot camp every Wednesday, and it makes you hit your muscles in a way you didn’t think possible (we had to do the hamstring curls last night, so I’m feeling just as sore as you will feel tomorrow lol).
Jacqueline says
If you think hamstring curls are hard with TRX you should definitely try the pendulum swings or atomic pushups (unless you already have) they are crazy!
peanutbutterfingers says
just the NAME of those moves exhaust me!
Jacqueline says
haha if you want I can send you the videos so you can see how to do them, you will get a britney spears circa 2001 core in no time 😉
Liz @ Something To Chew On says
I really want to try TRX! Looks like a killer workout!
And….cake. Hmm. I really like funfetti. But honestly, is there a kind of cake I’m going to turn DOWN? Nope. I don’t discriminate 🙂
elise says
Anyone who likes cake should try Blue Bunny “Birthday Party” flavor Ice Cream. It is TO DIE FOR! It contains white cake batter flavor ice cream with funfetti pieces/sprinkles mixed in. There’s also a ribbon of blue frosting running throughout. My bf calls it Type 2 diabetes in a bowl, but I don’t care. I love it.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
My favorite kind of cake is either funfetti or red velvet, but I serioulsy love EVERY kind of cake!
My wedding cake was a mix — yellow cake with lemon filling & chocolate cake with raspberry filling both with a super-sugary (my favorite!) icing!
Candice @ sweet and sour candi says
I went to a wedding where they had a banana cake layered with chocolate frosting….I was the fatty bridesmaid sitting eating my cake hahaha. HEAVEN!
Cait @ Cait hates Cake says
Um, NO cake, lol! I have NO idea what I will do for my wedding “cake” cause it sure won’t be your typical cake. I’ll probably do mini desserts/candy/cheesecake…or maybe just a big fat ice cream sundae. 😉
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
We haven’t picked a cake flavor yet.. butI can’t wait to try them all at our tasting!
I am a huge fan of boxed funfetti!!
Carly @ Cooking With Carly says
Our wedding cake is going to be red velvet, but with cream cheese icing. However, now that you mentioned the pumpkin spice cake….
sherri says
Hands down favorite is carrot cake!! But I have to say, I make a mean apple spice cake with caramel frosting…definitely a close second!
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
I loooove marble cake with chocolate frosting! So good…but I like cheesecake and carrot cake and red velvet and chocolate….I just love cake!
Leslie says
Today is MY birthday and I’m all about funfetti with funfetti frosting. But, I might have a new fav. I made pumpkin spice cupcakes with cinnamon honey frosting for work, they might take the cake (haha). 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Leslie!
Leslie says
Thanks lady! 🙂
Terrapinette@terrapinette.wordpress.com says
hummingbird cake with cream cheese frosting is my all time favorite!! for birthdays my mom always made Julia Child’s Cambridge cake and it is still one of my favorites!
Lea @ Healthy Coconut says
I love chocolate cake, carrot cake and red velvet all the same.
If I can have a 3 layer cake of all those flavors…I would be in cake heaven. The icing would be buttercream with coconut flakes. Yummy!
We had a destination wedding so bringing home the cake was not an option. So for our 1st wedding anniversary, we will just order (or I will bake) a replica of our wedding cake.
Wow, your wedding anniversary is coming soon already? Time flew by so fast. Now that you have the travel bug…may I suggest a weekend getaway around your anniversary 🙂
Hillary says
My boyfriend and I have already started talking about this (and we’re not even engaged yet. Yep, we’re those people). There’s this restaurant we both love called The Twisted Fork, and they serve a Tia Maria cake that is to die for—chocolate chip cookies, coffee liqueur and mocha buttercream icing. Nick’s already calling dibs on it for our wedding cake!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
That TRX workout just looks like it would hurt! Ouch!
I’m not a cake person at all. For me it’s a vehicle or the frosting. For birthdays I always want brownies and for our wedding we went with a dessert bar instead of the cake. If I had to choose, I would go with molten chocolate cake because of the creamy center!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
My favorite is red velvet, while Josh’s favorite is carrot cake. Its perfect because that’s my second favorite! 😀
Your wedding cake was stunning! I love the idea of a grooms cake! Did most of the cake get eaten the day of the wedding?
peanutbutterfingers says
yes! people loved both and liked having the variety to choose from as well.
Alison says
Awesome strength training workout!! Just curious, but how much weight do you use on each exercise??
My favorite cake is white cake with buttercream frosting…yummm!!!
peanutbutterfingers says
Lunges – 30 lb. bar
Single leg squats (one leg at a time) – 15 lb. bar
Squats – 90 lbs.
Deadlifts – 60 lbs.
One-legged leg press – 65 lbs.
TRX hamstring curls – unweighted
Step ups – unweighted
Carrie Purchase says
My wedding cake was a 3 layer cheese cake. It was probably the best wedding cake Ive ever had- the white chocolate raspberry was delicious! How do I attach a photo to show you?
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
Funfetti is my favorite!!! It may someday be my wedding cake….we’ll see.
GO BULLS!!! (What an awesome cake!)
Brooke says
Carrot cake is my favorite, but for our wedding cake, we did marble with death by chocolate filling and buttercream frosting. It was ammmaazzzing. We saved the top and ate it on our 1st anniversary Aug 28 of this year during Hurricane Irene! Many people were grossed out by the fact that we planned to eat it, but I couldn’t wait! It was pretty good. I blogged about it, obviously 🙂
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
My favorite cake is also red velvet…but with cream cheese frosting. Mmm. Second is funfetti! I don’t know how anyone could not like funfetti! It’s so colorful and happy!
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Red velvet is my favorite! And I hope your top tier tastes better than ours did!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I like any cake as long as it has buttercream frosting. Our wedding cake was slathered in it, and I was a happy bride. By the way, the wedding cake tastes surprisingly amazing one year later. We had ours in April, and I couldn’t get over how good it still was despite being frozen for a year. You’ll love it!
Lindsey @ Cardio Pizza says
I have no clue what I would get for my wedding cake (or when my wedding will be for that matter…hah!) I do love red velvet, but I think my favorite is either carrot cake or cheese cake….oooh yumm!!
Sarah says
I just made a cake for my sissy’s bday this week! It was a rich chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and a chocolate ganache on top. IT TASTED LIKE REESES!!! Sooo delish! And it tastes like ice cream when frozen! My sis made it for my bday last year cuz im such a Reeses gal- and loved it so much she requested it for hers! Here’s the link if ya wanna check it out- http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/08/chocolate-peanut-butter-cake/ It was perfect for her 13th bday! Also we made this buttercream one for mi padre- http://sweetapolita.com/2010/10/classic-vanilla-butter-cake/. Whenever i need a bday cake, her site is my go to. She has a bunch of fun cakes, frostings, fillings and tutorials. I found her tutorial for the perfect buttercream VERY helpful. Great for amateur (me) and not so amateur(you) bakers. And she has a nutella swirl cake. REALLY? YAY 🙂 Hope this is helpful for future bdays!
Traci says
My favorite has to be vanilla cake layered with sliced strawberries, banana slices, vanilla pudding, and fresh whipped cream. It is SO good and may make it into my future wedding cake. 🙂
Joey says
I had cakes as centerpieces at my wedding so there were four flavors… I remember one was carrot cake b/c that is the Husband’s fave… and the only other one I remember was chocolate/chocolate ganache. O.M.G!!! Seriously amazing… I always ask for box yellow cake for my bday tho – so simple & delicious!
Jo (livingmintgreen) says
I can’t decide on a favourite, but right now I’m loving “Hawaiian Crunch” cake from my fave local bakery – pineapple cake with cream cheese frosting & crushed pretzels. Sweet & salty – LOVE
Krystina (Organically Me) says
1. I think my favorite cake would have to be a rich chocolate cake with fluffy vanilla buttercream. That being said, I’d probably never refuse cake…ever.
2. I’m not married but I’d like to have multiple kinds of cake – a different one in each tier.
Sara says
We saved the top layer of our wedding cake in the freezer (chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream with maple buttercream filling) to eat on our anniversary. It turned out that somehow the filling had gone bad because when we cut into it, it was slightly green. So disappointing! Make sure you check it out thoroughly before you eat any!
Amber K says
We had so much cake left over from our wedding that we snacked on it for daaays. It was the best cake I had ever eaten and we got it at….Wal-Mart! lol It was beautiful too.
That’s one thing I really miss since having to go gluten-free. Wedding cake! It’s always way tastier than birthday cake for some reason.
linz says
I looove some good old yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Yum-a-lish.
But truthfully, I don’t think there’s a cake out there I would say no to.
Faith says
Favorite cake (of the moment at least) is chocolate sour cream cake w/ chocolate icing. Our wedding cake was vanilla w/ a blueberry/lemon filling and vanilla buttercream…very basic. We paid for it ourselves so budget dictated everything. I’d probably go for something more fun now.
Tracey says
Red velvet cake, carrot cake, pumpkin spice cake, funfetti cake are my top faves probably. Although there is bakery here in Columbus that makes an amazing pistachio rosewater cake! Ahhh! Now I just want cake…
jennyv says
•What is your favorite kind of cake?
Champagne cake — deliciousness!! OR carrot cake 🙂 Why people pass off carrot cake is bveyond me
•What flavor was your wedding cake or what flavor would you want it to be?
Our wedding cake was champagne cake and also chocolate w/ buttercream
•What was the best wedding cake you ever had?
Best wedding cake — my friends (as in 3 of their weddings!) had this amazing baker who had at leats 8 different flavors of cakes/fillings. So moist and delicious!!
Meghan @ CarmanClan says
Mmmm we just had funfetti cake the other day! Our wedding baker is making us a new cake on our anniversary, so glad we didn’t have to make room in our freezer.
Jessica @ RUNMEM says
TRX has done things for my core in 15 minutes a day that years and years of sit ups never accomplished! I LOVE that thing 🙂 I’m going to Atlanta this weekend to get certified – I’ll have to pass along some moves to ya.
I love carrot cake. Or my mom’s chocolate chip bundt cake – takes a very special occasion for that one!
Lyndsay says
Oh my gosh that TRX move is killer!! That one and v-ups! So much harder than with a stability ball! You and Ryan should invest in a strap to tie up at the gym or even to a tree in your yard, such a good workout!
Kristi says
do the TRX the opposite way! I put it on my ankles in a pushup position and curl my legs to my belly…killer…awesome..
Maria@La_Piattini says
TRX is no joke! I really wanna try it and hope my gym gets the equipment soon.
If I could, I would definitely have our wedding cake be funfetti! I don’t think it’s an option though. We do get to go to a cake tasting in a few months, which should be awesome! The pumpkin spice one sounds amazing, but our wedding is in the Summer and that is such a Fall flavor.
Christina says
My wedding cake was actually a cupcake cake. We used the place in St. Pete, A Cupcake Spot, that I am pretty sure I have seen pop up on your blog once before. I chose four flavors: better thans (chocolate chip) with cream cheese frosting; better thans with chocolate frosting, carrot cake with cream cheese, and lemon with raspberry cream cheese frosting. The beauty of a cupcake cake is that you can have as many flavors as you want!!
Shan says
Ummm, I had funfetti cake for ky wedding! The place we had it at actually offered it as a flavor and me and the hub we like, Sign us up!
