So how is YOUR week going? Ours has been business as usual but I was in the mood to take you guys along for the ride and figured I’d share a day-in-the-life style blog post with all of you today. Even though sharing day-in-the-life blog posts in real-time will forever be my favorite (a nod back to the early blogging days!), sharing a recap a day later will have to do right now since caring for three boys makes blogging in real-time next to impossible. Hopefully these are fun for you guys to read from time to time, too!
So let’s chat about TUESDAY! It was a relatively normal Tuesday with school, house stuff, work stuff and random commitments sprinkled in the mix. I didn’t anticipate sharing a blog post about our Tuesday so this one is a little heavy on the words and light on the pics.
Morning
I was up before the sun Tuesday morning to get some work in before the boys were awake for the day. Our morning was a little unusual because I left the house with only one kid in tow. Ryan’s work day typically begins at 7 a.m. but we planned for him to hang with Rhett and Ryder yesterday morning and handle their preschool drop off so I could take Chase to school and attend the First Grade Fairy Tale Ball in his school gym!
(Sweater / Jeans / Boots / Bag)
I’m not gonna lie, making it out the door with only a 7-year-old to worry about felt like a breeeeeze. Haha!
Chase’s Fairy Tale Ball was absolutely adorable. All of the kids dressed up as a character from a fairy tale and Chase really wanted to be the goose that laid a golden egg from Jack and the Beanstalk. Wellll, goose costumes are hard to come by last-minute so he was the chicken that laid a golden egg.
Thankfully Chase didn’t care at all about our little bird swap and happily paraded around the gym with his golden egg. The kids then performed a few short dances and we had time to snap some quick pictures before they resumed their normal school day. After the past two years, never will I ever take school events for granted!
Once the Fairy Tale Ball was over, I drove to the new house to meet with our builder to discuss some odds and ends. So much is happening at the house right now but Ryan and I still feel like we’re living in a weird land of “will we ever really move in?” because for so long it’s felt so far off!
Our official move-in is hopefully less than two months away so it’s slowly beginning to feel more real. While at the house, I took time to use painter’s tape to go around the house to measure and mark where we want towel bars, rings and hooks and toilet paper roll holders hung.
I was at the house for just under two hours and was pumped when I still had almost two hours of my kid-free morning remaining to work.
I made my way to my favorite local coffee shop and submitted deliverables for two upcoming Instagram campaigns and then sent out a few more house-related emails. I then made my way to ALDI to pickup a grocery order before it was time to pick Rhett and Ryder up from preschool.
(Throwback pic from a warmer day last month!)
Afternoon + Evening
With the two little dudes done with school for the day, we headed home and I reheated leftovers for lunch while the boys had a snack (they eat lunch at school). I eventually got Rhett down for a nap and spent some one-on-one time with Ryder.
We went through our stash of Halloween books and read a bunch of our old favorites together.
Ryder also seems to really want and need some solo decompression time after school most days so he did some puzzles and coloring. Our Halloween books inspired me to film a quick Instagram Reel while Ryder was contently playing beside me and he decided to pop in for a second of the video when it piqued his interest, too.
Eventually it was time to pick Chase up from school. Chase’s pickup time is one hour later on Tuesdays and Thursdays because he participates in two after-school art and science clubs those days and this helps me SO MUCH with Rhett’s nap time. I still have to wake Rhett up but that extra hour means he can typically sleep for two hours and I will take it!! Navigating naps and multiple kid activities and pickups/drop-offs can be roughhh. (I actually have a teenage neighbor I pay to stay with Rhett for less than an hour some days when she’s available just so he can nap while I handle pickups!)
After school, we made our way to the new rec center we joined for one month (no contract required!) because I need access to a pool for the next two weeks. I’m rounding out my not-too-intense training for the half Ironman relay I’m doing with my dad and brother-in-law. (You may read about this here in case you missed it! I am the swimmer in the relay and will be swimming 1.2 miles on race day.) The rec center has childcare available and the boys truly did not want to leave when we went for the first time last Friday so they were psyched when I asked if they wanted to go back yesterday afternoon. They made me promise to let them run some laps around the indoor track if it wasn’t crowded when I was done swimming!
My swim was a good one — I did right around 1.2 miles — and I tested out a new-to-me wetsuit.
This one was a million times more comfortable than the teeny one I tried squeezing into last Friday and I’m so grateful to Kathryn, a kind woman who messaged me offering up her wetsuit on Instagram, for letting me borrow her suit. I can breathe again!!
By the time we made it home and Ryan was done with work, everyone was ready for dinner! I didn’t anticipate writing a day-in-the-life post about yesterday so I don’t have many food pics to share but I did manage to snap one of our dinner which was my favorite meal of the day.
On my plate: Everything Bagel Seared Tuna + Ginger Sesame Broccoli + Brown Rice
After dinner, we did the whole bed and bath time routine with the boys before Ryan and I climbed into bed nice and early! I started reading a new book I borrowed from my mom last night — Reckoning by Catherine Coulter — and it’s an FBI thriller that immediately pulled me in. Hopefully it ends up being a good one because I could use a decent read after wanting to chuck Behind Her Eyes across the room after I finished that one earlier this week.
And now I’m off to hang with the boys (they’re all out of school for a teacher work day) and celebrate Ryan’s birthday! I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!!

I do, too!! It’s always so interesting to me as well so I’m glad you like this style of blog post. <3 Thanks, Sarah!

Love this post! Curious if the relay you’ll be partaking in is at the same time as the regular race or if it’s another day so you can still all cheer on Ryan? I’m itching to run another marathon but I need to find a fun one to make it worth all the training 🙃

It’s all at the same time! We aren’t sure if we’ll be able to start the swim together (that’s our hope!) but thankfully my swim is done at the very beginning so I’ll be able to join the boys and my mom, sister and nieces as part of the cheering squad once I am done. I truly cannot WAIT to spectate again. We had the best time cheering for Ryan last year and now that we’ll be cheering for my dad, Ryan and Ross, I’m even more excited to watch!

I enjoy these posts so much!

Thank you, Shelby!! They’re fun for me to write (and look back on years later), so I’m glad you enjoy them!!

Thanks for sharing! As a mom at a similar stage of life, I relate to these so much.
I am wondering if you can help me- I’m going on a little baby moon next week (aka sitting by the pool during the day while my husband is in a conference, but leaving my three kiddos at home!) I don’t really know what I’ll do with nothing on the schedule all day haha, but I would love to get sucked into a good book. I’ve read through your book recommendations, but I could use a little more guidance because I am pretty sensitive to sex and swearing and prefer books that keep those to a minimum. Do you mind telling me which of your favorites are the “cleanest”? Thanks!

Girl! You have so much energy! How do you do a day like this? Vitamins? Caffeine?

If you need another good thriller, I’m hooked on Brad Meltzer, The Escape Artist. His books always keep me hooked and I can’t read them fast enough.
Also kudos to all you get done with three kiddos. I’m dreaming of the day I don’t have to work 7-4 to be more flexible like that. I feel like I’ve become a professional juggler between work, kids and general life.

I love when you do these types of posts. Chase made an adorable Chicken who laid a golden egg!!! You must be getting so excited about moving into your new home. Not too much longer. Hope that all of you have a great time celebrating Ryan’s birthday!

I haven’t read the book, but I did watch the Netflix show “Behind Her Eyes” and i also was furious with the ending!! I don’t usually like sci-fi plots, but I honestly didn’t know that aspect was involved when I started the show. I thought about that show for daysss after I finished it. It got to me!

Room on the Broom is my girls’ favorite Halloween book!

I just tried on my borrowed wetsuit for the triathlon and it’s awful! Too tight and restricting. Going to order a different one today! Do you know what style that one is?
