Thanks so much for your kind words and well wishes regarding Sadie’s surgery this morning. And thank you for opening up and sharing a little bit about your experiences with lumps on your pets. Apparently we all have some very lumpy, bumpy critters!
I heard back from Sadie’s vet just before 1 p.m. and her surgery went really well. She’s still a little groggy at the moment, but I can pick her up at 3:30 p.m. I hope to awkwardly smother her in snuggles as I try to void her sutures really soon!
Twice
After working for a few hours at Starbucks this morning, I drove across the street to Plato’s Closet resale shop to try to make a little bit of money off of the clothes I cleared out of my closet last Sunday.
Plato’s Closet ended up taking a pair of jeans, two belts, a scarf and two pairs of shoes. I got $30 for everything which made me awfully happy since I was anticipating a grand total of $5.
I am planning to send the rest of the clothes to Twice, a neat website that blog reader Sarah told me about. According to their website, you ship your clothes to them using one of their prepaid labels. Twice then makes an offer on all or some of the items. You can accept the offer or, if you choose not to, you can pay $5 for return shipping or Twice will donate the unwanted items to Goodwill for free.
Neat, huh? I’ll let you know how it goes!
While I waited for an offer on my clothing at Plato’s Closet, I walked down the strip mall to TJMAxx and did a little Christmas shopping. I found a few things for some of the loved ones on my list, so it was a successful trip.
As I browsed around, a bright red blazer caught my eye.
I’ve wanted a bright blazer for quite some time now, but whenever I try one on, I cannot help but feel like a little girl trying to look like an adult.
This blazer was a little different than other blazers because of some ruching on the arms which made it feel a little less professional and a little more fun.
It was also slightly more tailored, so it didn’t feel as boxy. I ended up buying it since it was pretty cheap but I have the receipt handy just in case I get home and change my mind. We shall see!
Lunch
For lunch today, I popped into Earth Origins and took advantage of their salad bar.
Salad bar salads are always so much better than the salads I make for myself at home. I love piling tons of different toppings on my salads and really enjoy all of the different flavors and textures.
Before driving home, I walked next door to buy a pecan chocolate chip cookie from Betty Cakes.
They’re so darn delicious.
Hoping these next 90 minutes fly by so I can pick up my little cone head pup!

- Jacki: “I’d love to try the black bean burgers. I tried making my own and they fell apart terribly. My husband wouldn’t touch them with a 10 ft pole so it’s not something I’m going to spend the time making from scratch to prepare just for myself as it makes too much. I love the sweet/savory combinations…that looks really good!”

I hope Sadie recovers quickly, keep us posted! Also, I love that blazer, what kind of outfit do you plan to pair it with? I am hesitant towards blazers because I have broad shoulders, but I am sure you will pull it off! 🙂
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
i’m thinking i’ll pair it with a black tank top, long necklace, dark jeans and black heels. i also think it could look cute over a flowy white top with back leggings and boots. we’ll see!!
Taryn says
Love Plato’s, but we don’t have one here. I’m definitely going to check out Twice.
Amanda @ Eat More Rabbit Food says
Well, now I want a cookie….. 🙂
Cute blazer too. I love when they are a bit different from the traditional cut.
Haley @ The Saucy Apple says
Wow, that salad is gorgeous. I usually get bored with salads, but I think if I got creative with them instead, I’d tote them with me to work a lot more often. 🙂
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I wish Sadie a speedy recovery! 🙂 I love the blazer! I’ve been looking for a cute blazer like that and haven’t found one I like yet. I’ll have to check TJ Maxx! That is one yummy looking cookie!
WellHeeledRunner says
So glad Sadie’s ok! My little kitty was a cone head for our big family Christmas last year, she looked too cute it was really funny, poor little thing. Well done on sorting your closet AND getting money for it 🙂
Sonja says
Yesterday while I was out and about, I did the same thing. I stopped at Whole Foods and loaded up on their salad bar. Imagine my surprise when they weighed my salad and I owed $12.79! I was shocked! Next time I might not need to get a little of EVERYTHING! How much did yours set you back?
Jess says
I actually just sent a box of clothes to Twice yesterday! I’m hoping to get some money back, and if there is anything they don’t accept I’ll try Plato’s Closet, I think! I have never sent anything to them before, so I am interested to see what they offer! Sounds like you got a good amount from Plato’s Closet–much more than I have ever gotten!
Kelsie says
Definitely going to try Twice! Everytime I go to Plato’s I only get like $8 and they send me back with so much stuff they won’t take (when it’s a legit good brand and in awesome shape) – which then means I have to make a separate trip to Goodwill…lame
Lisa says
Awe, sending good and positive vibes to Sadie and all of you! Keep us updated. Cute blazer! I love the bright blazers this season, especially during the Winter when people tend to gravitate towards black.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Cute blazer! I love the style and the color! I feel the same way about salad bar salads… They are SO much better than the boring ones at home. Even when I do try to make my salads at home more exciting, there’s still nothing like a salad from a big salad bar.
Michelle says
Ooh nice blazer…still find it so funny you guys have TJMaxx and we have TKMaxx in Ireland ! I want to see the blazer on! Glad Sadie is doing well..keep us posted!
julie @ peanut butter fingers says
that is hilarious! i wonder if there’s a TLMaxx somewhere else!?
Michelle says
I know! I actually thought I had the name of ours wrong and had to check! I think it’s TKMaxx in most of Europe – at the very least it’s the same in the UK!
Brittany says
Good luck with Sadie this afternoon. It is SO hard to see your loved ones (K9 or otherwise) in pain. I’m hoping for a quick recovery.
Lisa @ Jogging on Coffee says
So glad to hear Sadie’s surgery went well 🙂 Give her lots of extra hugs!
Nikki says
Good luck Sadie!! Our little Hana (a 4 yr old Boxer) has a spot we are monitoring as well. Now we may see the vet sooner rather than later after your experience. 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I like that they’ll donate the clothes for you if they don’t want them, that’s perfect for things you were going to donate anyway!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
SO happy to hear Sadie is okay! (Even though I knew she would be) 12 more minutes! (is that creepy?) Oh, and I’m not sure if the vet told you but sometimes the dogs can be a little sick after surgeries, so rice + chicken broth should be easy on her stomach!
Claire @ Keeping Up With Claire says
And by 12 minutes, I meant 42.
Taryn says
I know what you mean feeling like a little girl trying to look grown up. I’m 24 and just finishing up law school and I absolutely HATE shopping for suits. Some of them really do look too old for me but even when I find a good suit that fits me right I feel ridiculous wearing it. Guess I’ll have to get over that reaaaaaaaaal fast!
Holly says
It’s alllllmost 3:30…thinking of you and Sadie <3
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I love that blazer! I’m so glad Sadie is doing well! <3
rach says
Do you budget weekly for eating out ? I noticed you ate out 3x today. Just curious!
Stephanie says
I just bought a little black blazer that is similar. It was exactly what I was looking for- a little fitted and with the same ruching on the arms. It fits perfectly! I hope you like!
Dana says
Very cute blazer! And I was also very upset this morning to read about Sadie being sick (and the loss of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – I love her!). I hope you don’t mind my saying this, but it also would be a very nice thing if you could give some form of gentle reminder to your readers along the lines of, “Resale shops are a great way to make some extra cash off of your old clothing, but if you’re able to, consider donating your gently worn clothing and new and used coats.” Areas of New York are still decimated from Hurricane Sandy and in need of warm winter clothing, and this time of year is always a good time to donate to coat drives!
Carolyn says
I agree! Twice sounds like a lot of work, in my opinion (to each their own) and donations out of the kindness of your heart without expecting anything in return is a great way to go!
Jay says
I agree. If the clothes are nice enough to sell, why not give them to someone in need and not just the “leftovers” that aren’t necessarily good enough… Especially during the holidays.!
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
So happy her surgery went well! I’m sure Sadie can’t wait to be home 🙂 That website sounds really great, you’re reminding me I need to clean out my closet badly! I still haven’t switched out my summer clothes for winter clothes either, which is long overdo. I gotta get on that!
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
The blazer’s cute! I just bought a bright red one last month and I love it.
Natalie @ Free Range Human says
I really like the blazer. So stylish!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
I love the look of that blazer! You’ll look great in it I am sure 🙂

OMG! My heart just jumped! Thanks Julie!!!!! SO excited!

Oh! I love that blazer. I pretty much love the blazer/jean/heels look. Red blazer is now on my list!
Sara @ fitcupcaker.com says
Cute coat. Plato’s never gives me much for stuff!! That cookie looks quite delicious!

Sadie will be a-OK in no time 🙂 My puppy was bit on her head by another dog (totally unprovoked!) and had to get stitches and drainage tubes on the top of her head and under her jaw (he had her whole head in his mouth, terrifying). Post-anethesia cuddles are the best! She had to wear the cone for a loooong time (6 weeks I think?!) almost all the time, and I really don’t think she even cared about her stitches, she was just ready to get that darned cone off! These things just remind me how incredibly amazing attitudes our dogs have, they just love life!
I always have a hard time finding the right length and fit for blazers, they can be so flattering!
Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom says
I am usually too lazy to take my clothes to consignment so I just drop them off at Goodwill but after seeing your post about Twice, I am going to give them a try. I like that they will donate the stuff that they don’t accept!
Hope you are enjoying loving on Sadie and that she is feeling okay.
Angela @ Beauty in Strength says
Lots of hugs to Sadie!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Aww poor Sadie! I’m sure she’ll be happy to be home with momma!
Danielle says
I currently go to school away from home and when I went home for Thanksgiving I noticed that a lump on my lab’s head (that used to be rather small) is now very noticeable. After reading your post about Sadie, it makes me really rethink getting it removed and spending the extra money. When I read Ryan’s grandmother’s response to you it made me tear up! I love my dog and I wouldn’t want to put off something that I think is not a big deal just to save a few bucks when I could fork up the extra money and possibly spend many more years with her. Also, I hope Sadie’s recovery goes smooth and she gets back to running with you in no time!
TorontoRunner says
The blazer is gorgeous!
I’ve been looking for a nice-fitting one that doesn’t cost me my life for a long time. Still haven’t found it! ha!
Erin kl says
Glad to hear Sadie is is okay!
Ashley@cupcakesncrunches says
I hope sweet little Sadie is back to her crazy self by tomorrow. My Vizsla actually has a few bumps as well, but our vet assured me that as long as they don’t grow there is nothing to worry about. She had a freak accident last December and had to get over 30 stitches and I swear I cried more than she did. It is crazy how much we fall in love with our pets! Sending lots of happy thoughts Sadie’s way!
Carly says
Hugs and more hugs to Sadie!!!!
Brie @ Eat Books says
I’m sure the red blazer will look super cute on you! Be sure to post a photo! So glad to hear Sadie’s surgery went well – my husband and I had to make a similar decision last year about our dog (to perform an expensive xray), but I quickly decided that the money saved if we didn’t do the xray wouldn’t be worth a life of “what ifs”.
Taylor says
Good to know about that website!! We used to have a platos closet around here but it closed down, so I never know what todo with all the clothes I feel are too nice to donate. I’ll check it out!!
Meredith says
Great blazer! You will be able to dress that up or dress it down, and I always like to have a “fun” blazer or two in my closet. Love love love tjmaxx for random finds like that! 🙂
Lauren says
I was in TJMaxx today as well but I never seem to be impressed with their clothing selection. I think I just hit it always at the wrong time though. Cute blazer! Love the red.
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
You can definitely pull off that red blazer! I say keep it! 🙂
Isn’t it weird how you can never ever make a salad at home as good as you can at a salad bar? Why is that?? It is so baffling and frustrating to me! I am sure that the addition of that cookie for dessert made the whole thing even better ;).
'Dee @ 'Dee's Garret says
Aw, good luck to Sadie getting “de-coned” soon! I’ve always had shepherds or shepherd mixes and for some reason, those breeds are prone to benign “fatty tumors”. Didn’t stop me from freaking out every time, though. I don’t take chances with my puppies either – they live long lives with me and it’s definitely not just luck! Hugs to Sadie.
Bek @ Crave says
How cool! Do you know if Twice works with Australian people also? I’m moving and have a lot I no longer need!
Khushboo says
Love that blazer! Pair it with skinnies and heels and you’ve got yourself a KILLER outfit 😀
rachmaree says
Love the blazer! And is that a normal sized cookie in America!? Huge! And looks sooooo delicious. I have been debating whether to make chocolate chip cookies, I think that is a sign.
char eats greens says
That blazer looks HOT!! Can’t wait to see what you pair it with!!
Megan@funsizedfitness says
I totally agree about restaurant salad bars being better than at home…I get especially excited when they have a fancy chickpea concoction 🙂
