The day after a holiday weekend is a fun one, right?
Ehhh…
Though I absolutely adore weekends, sometimes it really does feel good to get back into the swing of things and back into a routine… especially when you start your work day by jamming to the Wicked station on Pandora.
Songs from Disney’s Hercules keep popping up today and I can’t help but think Hercules may be one of the most underappreciated animated Disney movies.
I never even saw it until Ryan and I bought it in college (don’t judge) because it’s his all-time favorite Disney movie and I had to check it out.
The songs from Hercules are awesome!
In case you were a fan of my Disney workout playlist, here are some Hercules songs I recommend adding to your rotation:
- Zero to Hero <—My favorite
- The Gospel Truth <— Seems like a song that should be in Sister Act II
- I Can Go the Distance <— Slow but great for a long run
Workout
Before my workday began, Ryan and I hit the gym at 5:30 a.m. for a quality workout.
I completed a five-mile run. Ryan ran two miles beside me on the treadmill before he hit the weights for a leg workout.
My five miles weren’t nearly as painful as my weekday runs last week. When I take a lot of time away from running regularly the first handful of runs I set out to complete are always pretty darn miserable (just being honest), but my running groove slowly returns and they’re not quite as daunting.
I hope they continue to feel less and less taxing!
Breakfast
Today’s breakfast was a fall favorite.
A couple of spoonfuls of almond butter were also consumed while the oats were cooking.
Off to tackle today’s to-do list.
Stay tuned for a Blog Talk Tuesdays revival! I took the week off from the series last week because I was not in the right frame of mind last Tuesday, but it’s returning in full force today.
P.S. The Fashion page was updated!

Disney and any old-school Pandora stations are seriously my JAM!! I love it!
Time to stock up on pumpkin 😀 so pumpeeedddd! Get it…ha..haa! It’s too early, my bad.
Enjoy your day lady 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
totally agree! they make any day better.
Claire @ NavigatingNorth says
I haven’t even seen Hurcules! On Saturday night I was rocking the Mulan soundtrack “I’ll make a man out of you” I think the song was…;-)
I also did a little run this morning. It’s so refreshing sometimes!

Sadie looks so cute even though she’s a shadow-starer! Why do dogs do that!?
peanutbutterfingers says
you better believe i have that song on one of my running playlists. a classic. gotta love donny osmond.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
Boy do I lovee me some Disney music! I can rock out to Disney jams all day every day 😉
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
Aww I love Disney movies! Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid are my all-time favourites, and I LOVE the music in them. Your breakfast looks delicious. Right now I’m sipping on a cold vanilla green monster, but with a high of only 69 degrees today, I don’t think it’ll be long before I bust out the hot breakfasts again!
peanutbutterfingers says
those are my favorites, too!! no one can top ariel.
nicole @ simply Nicole says
I love disney music. As I was stretching before heading to yoga the other day, a song from the Lion King came on. Definitely made me smile!
peanutbutterfingers says
i swear if i was an exercise instructor i would make the class work out to songs from musicals and disney movies. and i would have like one participant. 🙂
Khushboo says
Hercules is one of the few Disney movies i missed out on! My 3 faves will always be Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King! Such feel-good movies!
Kelly says
I never sae Hercules either…but I love Disney! Beauty and The Beast will always have my heart!
peanutbutterfingers says
if you’re in the mood for a totally cheesy date night, you and keith should rent hercules. it appeals to guys a lot more than some of the other disney movies, i think.
Andrea says
Pumkin is back… fall must be getting close! I also totally LOVE disney music and I am always a bit ashamed of how much of it is on my Ipod when other people listen to it!
Hope says
I LOVE Disney! I am a huge fan of all the Disney Movies. I think Mulan is also unappreciated! Have you seen Tangled? It’s such a cute movie! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
yes!!! i saw tangled on my flight home from europe and loved it! i even rented it on netflix to make ryan watch it when we got home. i love the music from that movie, too.
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
Disney music always puts me in the best mood, but I’m not sure if I could work out to it?
Can’t wait for Blog Talk Tuesday to come back! I missed it last week =)
Brandi @ The Vitamin Bee says
The music from Hercules is awesome!!
My other favs are Lion King (hakuna matata anyone?) and Aladdin. And I really liked the Princess and the Frog.
And MULAN!!! I love the song “I’ll make a man out of you” 🙂
Now I wish I could listen to Pandora at my job!!
peanutbutterfingers says
do you have a smart phone? i have an pandora app on my phone! 🙂 just an idea… not that you want to be breaking any rules. 🙂
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
It’s totally fall now — I can feel it! Those pumpkin oats look amazing. I think I may make a pumpkin smoothie of sorts!
Sarah Jane MacMillan says
Is there a place online to buy the all the whey protein powder? Or do you find it in the store? Your oats look so good I want to try but I can’t buy it at my local grocery store!
peanutbutterfingers says
i know! i think it’s actually harder and harder to find. i recently switched to optimum nutrition’s gold standard protein powder. ryan buys it in bulk online.
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Pumpkin 😀 yay! I think I need to go to starbucks and get a pumpkin spice latte today haha. And I love hercules…zero to hero is a fabulous song. That’s awesome that you bought disney movies in college…I would still buy them now ;). Oh, a disney movie marathon sleepover would be awesome!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Love those songs!! My fave Hercules song (you mean Hunk-u-les-haha) is the song “Won’t say I’m in love.”
Bee Goes Bananas says
I really liked Hercules, but you’re so right. I didn’t watch it very often and it’s very underappreciated!
Julie @SavvyEats says
I’ve always loved the music from Hercules!
Marijke says
I haven’t even seen Hercules! Shame on me!
My step-daughter rented Tangled at the weekend so I’m going to watch that tonight before we have to take it back to Blockbusters! What? Isn’t that what all 26 year-olds do? ha!
peanutbutterfingers says
tangled is awesome!
Meredith @ food, shoes, and booze says
You’re right.. Hercules is totally underrated. But I would still pick the Lion King or Beauty and the Beast over it any day… they’re just too good!
Erin says
You know what’s funny, I completely agree that Hercules is a great Disney movie but often forgotten. I used to rock out to their soundtrack… maybe I should download some of the songs on iTunes 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
I have never seen Hercules, but the hubby and I might just need to make a date night out of it! 🙂
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I love Hercules — and another underappreciated Disney movie is The Sword in the Stone! I love that movie.
Annie says
at first glance, i definitely thought those scoops of pumkin were chicken tenders. and i was like “…i mean i guess fried chicken in the morning could be a good way to start the day?” hahhaha
peanutbutterfingers says
ewww! definitely not… though i think sadie would love chicken oatmeal.
Marijke says
I had to scroll back up to check this out… totally see what you mean!
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
HERCULES is MY favorite movie too!!! I love that movie. Such a great story, music, and characters. Not to mention it is TOTALLY hilarious 🙂
I am a fan of Fall runs–off to hit it up right now!
Lauren says
I actually love Hercules! The song “I won’t say I’m in love” is one of my favorite Disney songs.
Brittany says
Five miles on the treadmill is, in my opinion, the equivalent of at least 7 miles outside because it’s so BORING! So pat yourself on the back, girl! You’ll own that half. 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
agreed. SO boring. i wish i was light outside at 5 a.m. so i’d feel comfortable running outside!
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
Hercules was definitely a good one– but agree about it being underrated. Maybe the Disney-obsessed generation was a little too grown up by the time it came out? I don’t know a single person or kid who was obsessed with the movie and had it on repeat like I did with Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast.
Great job on the workout, but I am mostly impressed with your fortitude to get up and complete it at 5:30am 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
that’s what i’m thinking too – it was a LITTLE past our time.
Alexa says
I Can go the Distance makes me cry like a baby every time! ..and it constantly comes up on my Pandora stations too
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
I LOVE “Mulan” and frequently jam out to that on my run. Also, don’t judge, “Jem and the Holograms”
Alexandrina @ TheCardioQueen says
Yay! I love Hercules! Definitely underappreciated!
Samantha says
Hercules is awesome!! In my top 5 favorite Disney movies. Back in middle school three of my friends and I performed “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)” at a talent show. Wow, that’s embarrassing…
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
Hercules is a good one but it doesn’t hold a candle to Mulan! True to my Heart with Stevie Wonder is such a great workout jam!
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
I love Hercules and Zero to Hero! I think I love ALL Disney movies though. Disney tunes are always popping up on my playlist when working out. Sometimes I have to refrain from singing out loud.
Ruthie Hart says
okay I knew I wasn’t crazy! I was thinking to myself…I feel like there hasnt been a blog talk Tuesday in a while! Looking forward to it!
peanutbutterfingers says
it’s a LONG one. brace yo’self! 🙂
Gen says
I’ve actually never even seen Hercules…..hahaha guess I have to watch it now! 😀

Loooove the Hercules soundtrack. So many sassy, awesome songs. “A Star is Born” is another of my favorites from that movie!
Another under-appreciated Disney movie is Mulan. Mulan gets no love!

My disney station on Pandora is great to bake to. It makes me so happy inside!!!
Angela @ My Pinky Toes says
LOVE disney songs…I could definitely go for some Aladdin…a whole new world…….!
Cait's Plate says
I really need to hop on this pumpkin oatmeal bandwagon!!
chelsea says
5 miles on a treadmill just doesn’t seem appealing to me at all in anyway lol. Anything over 3 miles on a treadmill is good for me. Way to kick it out at 5:30am though!
Tracy @ Tracy's Treats says
Old school Disney songs are wonderful! I agree, Hercules is definitely underappreciated, but it’s a great movie! The song “I can go the Distance” actually makes me tear up!
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
I love pumpkin oats, and I love that fall is here and pumpkin is everywhere!

at the end of a run last week, pochahontas came on my iPod (colors of the wind anyone?!) and it literally pushed me to the finish!! love me some disney!
Liz says
My favorite is actually Lion King, but I love Hercules…and it’s music! I completely agree that it’s underappreciated. I can still remember seeing it with 5 of my cousins when it came out in the theater – I think I had a t-shirt of it, too (I had a pair of married cousins who were both teachers & Disney freaks – he worked part-time at the Disney store 🙂 )
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I love Hercules! Haha I also have a pandora station that plays a lot of songs from musicals and disney songs – and Hercules is always on there!
Jessica Schwartz says
Hi Julie! I just wanted to tell you that I absolutely love your blog. Your smoothies insipired me to start making my own for breakfast everyday, and adding a handful of spinach to each one helps me get my healthy veggies. I would never have believed that you can’t even taste it in there! These tips, plus your recipes and workout ideas, have helped me lose 15 pounds since June (10 more to go). Thank you so much 🙂
Sarah-Mae @ Eat, Run, Knit says
Running on a treadmill and without a dog sure does make it a lot easier doesn’t it?! Love that feeling of sailing on a treadmill instead of pounding pavement every now and then!
