I topped a whole wheat sandwich thin with roasted red pepper hummus and portobello mushrooms.
On the side I nibbled on cauliflower and asparagus, roasted with garlic salt. It was d-to-the-e-to-the-l-i-c-i-o-u-s (Black Eyed Peas, anyone? 😉 ).
Sadie may be one of the biggest veggie lovers I know. I snapped this picture of her giving me the “feed me” look as I was packing my lunch today.
Here’s a fun little information nugget: Sadie’s favorite vegetable is broccoli.
Morning Snack
My morning snack was a cheese-tastic microwaved quesadilla.
Easy snacks are my favorite and microwaving a Colby jack string cheese stick on a whole wheat tortilla is pretty darn easy. Why is melted cheese so much better than cold cheese?
How Old is Too Old
Question for you meat experts out there… Is it dangerous to eat chicken that’s one day past the “sell by” date? If it’s just gross, I’m okay with that, but I don’t want Ryan and I to keel over after dinner tonight.
I put my 2/21/10 chicken in the crock pot this morning and it smelled okay… but does that make it okay?
Do you always toss food that’s past expiration?
For me, I toss food depending on the type of food and the smell. Old milk – in the garbage! Old cereal – in my bowl! 😉

I’m not an expert, but I’m guessing your chicken will be fine. I hope another commenter corrects me if I’m wrong!
How awesome is it that your dog is into veggies?!?!?! 🙂

The delicious thing is actually from Fergie’s solo CD. Or Fergie Ferg as I prefer to call her. 🙂 I think your chicken will be fine! Things are usually good past the sell-by date because the grocery stores assume it will sit in your fridge for a few days after you purchase things. If you get sick though…let’s just pretend I didn’t tell you this.

Sell by date things are good for a few days after because it is the last day an item should be purchased. Use by dates are the latest you should use an item. However, I think both would be fine a day or two after if they smell okay and have the typical color/consistency of the product. Companies generally try to play it safe and do the dates on the earlier side of things. 🙂

My doggie loves veggies too! And fruit. 🙂 It’s so funny that you bring up the expiration question because there was an article on MSN.com this morning about it. It said that for the most part food is good until about 7 days after the expiration date. To me, if it doesn’t smell funny, then it’s ok!

good to know! i think the “smell test” says a lot, too!

I’d eat it. I’m back about expired stuff though so I wouldn’t take advice from me 😉 I’m using Mrs. Dash that expired in 2008.

I recently searched how long to keep my food. “They” say that the sell by and expiration date are more “best quality by…” You should usually be able tell if your food is bad by the smell.

I definitely go by the smell– but I only have dairy products with exp. dates, really, since I don’t eat meat. I’ve eaten yogurt WAY past the expiration date, but I’d be a little more hesitant to try that with chicken 🙂

I’m crazy about expiration dates on perishable things and I agree with everyone above….I read an article once with the FDA guidelines and if it’s a sell by date then you have a few days beyond that to use it. For things like yogurt, unless there’s mold on it, it’s even good up to a week after the expiration date on the container. Also, most things with use by dates are good for a few days beyond that….they say to get rid of condiments within a couple weeks of opening even if it hasn’t reached its expiration date, but I don’t follow that…I have jars of salsa open for months and am always fine. The same goes for freezing things….they say that you should free meat for up to 6 months, but if you freeze it for a year, only the quality will suffer, it’s still perfectly safe to eat (it just might have more freezer burn)! So, if it looks and smells OK then it’s probably ok:) For non-perishable things, you can go a LONG time (I’m talking months and months) after the sell by date because most things like cereal, chips, etc won’t make you sick, they’ll just get stale over time:) Hope this helps!

Girl is that all you had for lunch? I am sure you can eat more than that, no?
