After a whirlwind weekend packed with baby shower fun, I feel like I am finally able to catch my breath a bit this morning. We’ve had guests staying with us from Friday morning through late yesterday evening (my mom is actually staying through Thursday morning!), our house is looking like a hot mess and I feel rather behind on the work front, but my heart is so full.
Aside from my baby shower on Saturday, we spent most of the weekend out on the lake with our friends and family.
We visited a favorite local restaurant and wine bar on Friday, had a cook out at our place on Saturday night and ordered pizza on Sunday evening, but the days were spent on the water!
The weather was hot and sunny – perfect for boating – and we took full advantage of it by floating in the lake for hours.
For this always-hot pregnant lady, it was basically heaven!
We also loved having Sadie and Kona out on the lake with us and the two dogs had the best time jumping in the water, playing fetch and swimming around with all of us.
Please note Sadie’s booty on my lap…
She’s getting better about navigating her way around my baby bump and is slowing beginning to realize she cannot back her butt up onto my stomach anymore. Lap space is getting smaller and smaller by the day over here!
After such a fun weekend with some of my very best friends, my sister and her husband, it was hard to watch everyone leave. As I hugged each of them goodbye, nearly everyone said something along the lines of, “The next time I see you, you’ll have a baby!” So, so crazy.
Things are getting back to normal around here today. I taught a 6 a.m. spinning class and am now chatting with you guys over a quick and easy breakfast of a toasted English muffin and Greek yogurt topped with fresh berries.
I need to grab a quick shower before heading back into work and then my mom is joining me for my 32-week prenatal appointment around lunchtime today. I’m so glad she’s staying a little longer! The two of us have plans to organize some of the baby stuff from my showers and figure out where I want to hang some prints up in our nursery. Hopefully this means I’ll be ready to share full pictures of our nursery with you guys soon since the only thing we really have left to do is hang some pictures on the wall!
I hope you have a great Tuesday!

It has been SO, SO hot lately. Lake days are the perfect remedy!

Aww looks like such a fun weekend! It’s amazing that you have such a long-standing and tight-knit group of friends. Enjoy the rest of the time with your mom and hope you feel all caught up in no time.

Sadie makes me laugh! She’s not willing to give up her spot but she is willing to share! My little terrier likes propping her front paws on my bump – she assumes I’ve put it there for her comfort! Still utterly clueless she will have to share her space with a new arrival soon!
Has Sadie clued in to whats going on yet or is she still oblivious?! My mum’s dog is very aware and she follows me around everywhere (including waiting outside the loo to make sure I make it safely out again!) and likes to sit next to me on the couch. Funny how some dogs know and some don’t!
Julie says
I think she’s still totally clueless… just frustrated there isn’t as much space for her on my lap anymore! She also used to love sprawling out on my chest/stomach before and seems to be confused when I have to move her to the side when she still tries to do that right now. 🙂
Katie @ Operation Happier says
Are y’all worried about how she’ll do adapting to a new little one around? I hope she’s good with babies! She seems like such a sweetheart.
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
The water sounds like the perfect place to be in this crazy heat. Sadie is the cutest – she always provides the entertainment it seems!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
at first your title water babies reminded me of actual water babies… you know the dolls you filled with water? i used to love mine! i think it’s still at my grandma’s house actually haha
Julie says
YES!!! I actually still remember the jingle from the commercial… “It’s my water baaay-beee!” 🙂

What a lovely weekend you had! Family/friends time is the absolute best. I am so jealous you have a boat; lake time is heaven! That picture of Ryan made me laugh; so cute! You look absolutely radiant, Julie!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Awww love that you were able to spend time with your friends and fam on the lake! that is SO fun!!
Brittany @ Lemon Lime Life says
Spending time on the water is always good for the soul. Glad to hear that you are feeling so so loved right now. Having friends and family by your side during your journey helps make it that much more special and memorable! Sadie and Kona are two of the cutest pups! Dog in life vests make my heart melt!!
Courtney says
Just wait until your baby is old enough to enjoy the water. (And it happens soon!) Then, the real fun begins 🙂
Julie says
I am SO excited for this!! 🙂
Amanda says
Where did you get the doggie life jackets??? Our rescue pup was born with a full top mouth (so her face looks normal)… but only half of a bottom mouth, if that makes sense. We want to take her swimming, but we’re concerned about her holding herself far enough above water to compensate for her almost always open mouth. This would be a perfect solution!
Julie says
Amazon.com! The brand is Paws Aboard and they’re great. The dogs don’t seem to mind them at all!
Bonnie Johnson says
Kudos for adopting a rescue pooch, Amanda! So often folks see more issues than the daily love any potential “special” pup or kitty might bring. Thank you.
Jamie says
Haha oh Sadie… What a great weekend, and it’s totally worth it to be a bit behind on work/email! Time with family and loved ones is the best. Hope you have a fabulous day. And now I’m wanting an English muffin…

It’s so crazy to think that the little guy is on his way! I’ve been reading your blog for over 4 years (you are actually the reason I became inspired to start my own and now it’s a part-time job that helps put me through college!) and I’m SO excited for you to start this new chapter of your life!
Glad you had such an amazing time with your family <3.
PamelaC says
Looks like so much fun! How do you get your curls to look so natural and almost wavy?
Julie says
I wrap my hair around the outside of a curling iron, hairspray the heck out of them and then brush them out. In the above pics my hair was a little dirty and I feel like that helps them look less “done” and more wavy, too! When I curl freshly-washed hair, it seems to get way more curly/ringlet-like whereas dirtier hair seems to be a little less tightly curled. I’m not sure why, but I also prefer a less curly look, so I generally like the way the waves look on day two or so!
Kate says
that looks like an awesome trip! And how adorable is Sadie’s life jacket!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
What a blessed weekend you’ve had! So glad your mom gets to stay a bit longer!!! Can’t wait to see that nursery!
Suzanne @ Life is a Mix says
I am amazed at how pretty that lake is. All of the lakes around me are brown and just plain gross!
That’s awesome that you get your mom for a couple extra days. I know your mom is awesome and you already realize this but becoming a mom makes you see it even more!

Hi Julie,
I love reading about your pregnancy! I just found out I’m pregnant and I was wondering if there’s an app you use to help track your pregnancy? I thought I remembered reading in one of your entries that you did but now I’m not sure. I really do enjoy your updates on how big the baby is by comparing it to a fruit or vegetable. I started re-reading your posts just to see if I’m experiencing anything like you.
Look forward to more posts!
Julie says
Yay! Congratulations to you! I use the BabyCenter My Pregnancy app! It’s great!

sadie is too funny. our dog always has to be touching someone, but she’s huge. like direwolf huge. so laying under the table, she takes up all the foot room.
Ellen @ Wannabe Health Nut says
So fun! Did you bare your bump in a regular bikini or did you wear a maternity one piece or tankini? I need to find a suit before July 4th weekend! Yikes.
Julie says
bikini! the belly likes to be freeeee. haha!
Katie @ Operation Happier says
Gosh, this post brings back so many memories! I grew up in Texas, where going to the lake was such a big part of my summers! We went out virtually every weekend with my parents, and my sister and I went to a camp on the lake during the week. The. best. Now I live in San Francisco where going to the lake is not part of the culture at all. It’s chilly in the summers (54 and partly cloudy right now!), and people go hiking or surfing or whatever instead. I have to say, I really miss the lake! It looks like you had an amazing time.
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
Sadie’s life jacket is so darn cute, I’d even wear it! 😉
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says

Is that a dress Lesley’s wearing? The blue one with the beautiful neckline? Want!
Jenn @ Mark My Miles! says
As a new mom of two under two, I recommend you enjoy all your weekends outside as much as you can before the little arrives. It is difficult at first to bring the little one out in the heat, but you can have fun still : ) Can’t wait to see the nursery, I bet it’s amazing!

aww I just got really excited when I saw a pic of Sadie in a barkpost article! http://barkpost.com/dogs-no-kids

What a glorious weekend! I need to find a friend on a lake so I have somewhere to relax all summer! So glad you were able to have a little one-on-one time with your momma. I’m in Duluth MN, and my mom is down in Naples FL, so I cherish the time I am able to spend with her! There is nothing like a momma’s advice.
