A perk of working as a personal trainer is the ability to wear comfortable gym clothes to work every day. Yoga pants or spandex capris and sneakers? Sign me up!
The gym where I am working provides a polo for trainers to wear (mine should be arriving soon) and we have to wear black exercise pants or capris on the bottom. This makes getting ready for work a breeze and so far I am a fan.
Earlier this month, Reebok sent me a pair of the PWR fitted capris and they have quickly become my go-to workout capris and my favorite capris to wear to work.
When it comes to working out in the capris, I love them because they don’t fall down or ride up. Though the legs are fitted the whole way through and are nice and snug, the bottoms are thicker and slightly more fitted which keeps them in place during plyometric movements like box jumps, burpees and mountain climbers.
Overall, the capris are thicker than the majority of workout capris or pants I’ve owned in the past which is why I love to wear them to work.
The high-quality material makes them look more professional (no pilling!) and work-appropriate for a trainer. (Just FYI, should these capris interest you, I’d definitely order a size smaller than you think you might need as they seem to run a bit large.)
My shift at work today was only four hours, but it ran right through lunch. I ate a heavy snack before work, but was more than ready to dig into my real (late) lunch when I arrived home.
I made myself chicken salad with carrots and served it with kettle corn and a sliced Ambrosia apple.
At work today, I was able to sit in on some appointments with new members at the gym. I’ve been learning a lot about the various programs that are available to members and am continually impressed with my new employer. I love that they put an emphasis on helping those who are brand new to fitness develop an exercise routine.
There is a free 6-month program available to members where they can meet with a gym employee, set goals, discuss exercise obstacles and brainstorm ways to develop a fitness habit. I’m excited to be a part of it!
For example, one new member is trying to cut soda out of her diet and consume more water (in addition to fitness-specific goals). She’s been doing great with eliminating soda, but is struggling with water consumption. One of my fellow trainers encouraged her to buy two giant water bottles and use a Sharpie marker to draw lines on them with times that tell her when she needs to drink water.

Creating mini water goals to keep her on track throughout the day seems like a great way to encourage all-day hydration. I want to use this idea, too!
Question of the Afternoon
- Do you struggle with drinking enough water?
- How do you make sure you drink enough water throughout the day?
Jen @ Chocolate Chips & Tricep Dips says
I LOVE that water bottle idea!!! I haven’t had soda in years, but I do struggle to drink enough water. I have a large water bottle that holds 32 marked oz., so that helps me keep track of how much I’ve had to drink. I still need more though!
Lindsey says
I usually try and drink my Camelbak (750mL) in the morning and afternoon so that gets me 1.5L during my work days! Plus I usually have a glass in the morning with lemon and with supper.
Lauren @ Berry Sweet Lauren says
What a simple, yet great idea! I used to struggle with drinking enough water but now that water is the only thing I drink throughout the day (besides coffee in the morning), I am much more successful. I fill up a large water bottle in the morning and then make sure it’s completely gone by the time lunch rolls around and then another one before I leave work.
Erin @ Axell's Kitchen says
Nope that’s the one thing I’m good at, I chug water alll day!
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness says
I love that idea!! I keep water bottles on my desk and just drink them as I go through the day. Some days I do better than others. I’m going to start marking my water bottles with times. Also that chicken salad looks so delicious!
Mary says
I have been taking my large sports drinks bottle into work lately but it varies how much I drink during the day. I love the sharpie marker trick!
Often I find when I visit my parent’s house I drink more than when I’m at my own home – usually 12+ glasses of water a day. When I’m working I get through hardly any and could do with adding some lines to my bottles this week!
A.M. Hillis says
Gosh, I have the opposite problem. I drink water ALL DAY LONG. I think it’s a remnant of growing up in Texas, because my Minnesotan friends are always astounded by how much I drink.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Love the water bottles! Great idea! I don’t drink enough during the day but make sure to rehydrate after exercise and keep myself topped up throughout otherwise I end up with headaches!
alli says
i’ve been doing that for a while and yes, it does help! I carry a 1 gal water bottle with me, that i marked every hour from 9-6…if i drink much after 6pm, i’m up at night to go & i’d rather not be 😉
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
I love those capris and your sneakers! I know I don’t drink enough water during the day! I get so busy, I don’t even think about it. I really need to work on that!
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I have those same ReeBok capris and I love them!!
I drink water all day long. I have a Tervis tumbler that goes everywhere with me!
Annette@FitnessPerks says
That’s such a fun idea!
I like drinking cold (ice) water the most, so yep, I’m pretty good at drinking up. Esp since if I don’t, I tend to get headaches.
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove.com says
I bought a nice, BPA free bottle that I fill up twice a day. I do struggle sometimes but always feel better when I’ve drunk my quota.
Shannon @ Skinny Sometimes says
I’m great about drinking water M-F when I always have a full bottle on my desk, but I don’t do so well on the weekends when I’m on the move! You’re new job seems really great, I love all the programs they have set up, sounds like you’re a perfect fit.
alyssa @ life a la wife says
I bought a camelbak and that really helps me drink water. I know I need to fill it up 4 times throughout the day!
Jackie Macharsky says
I think I drink more than that but I had to quit soda cold turkey originally in order to stop. Now I can have one every so often and let it be one!
Tamara Lee @ Lively Happenings says
That’s a great idea! I am also glad you are enjoying your new job!!!
Lauren @ Rustic Honey says
Glad to see you are loving the new job! I use a starbuck’s tumbler (16 oz) with a straw. I make it a goal to fill it up at least four times throughout my workday. Having a straw makes all the difference for me when I’m sitting at my desk! Slurp! 🙂 It also helps me fight the urge to eat when I’m actualy bored or just thirsty!
Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers says
Totally agree about the straw!!
Dana says
Great idea!! Recipe please for that amazing looking chicken salad? 🙂 Ditto to Shannon- M-F I’m pretty good because of my work routine. I also have cups of water in between my days of ‘much needed coffee’ I don’t do sugar in my coffee though-just some skim milk. Weekends are tougher because we are always on the move doing something else.
laura says
I love the water bottle idea. I need reminders to keep my water intake up at work or I’ll just guzzle diet coke all night.
Michelle says
I work a desk job and keep my water bottle handy all day. I seem to do much better at work than I do when I’m out of my routine or on the weekends. I probably just need to be “that girl” who carries a water bottle at all times (even in my house). I laugh at my sister-in-law who brings her water bottle over when she could just use a glass but maybe she’s onto something.
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
Love that water idea that is awesome. At work I’ve been busier of late so I’ve found it harder to keep up my water consumption consistently.
Glad your new job is going so well and am going to be on the lookout for those capris.
Cathryn says
I am a water junkie. I have a 20 oz. Tervis water bottle that I would say I easily drink 5-6 full ones a day. Recently I’ve been adding frozen strawberries or a sliced lemon to keep in there during the day to change things up.
Ashley says
Absolutely love this idea! I seriously need to keep up with drinking water because I always get dehydrated and hungry!
Debbie B says
I actually drink TOO MUCH water. I used to drink about 80floz before 10am which is usually when I would go jog. And then of course drink more as the day went on. Since I learned this is terrible and a trainer could see my skin was water bloated, I have tried to cut back. I really like that water bottle idea though! I could use that, but for the opposite reason 🙂
Cori @ olivetorun says
I have the opposite problem… I drink TOO much water (and decaffeinated green tea). I am CONSTANTLY taking water breaks. I guess that’s what you get when you’re a distance runner.
Jennifer says
Great idea on the water bottle. I work from home and you would think it would be easy access to water all day. However, I just really struggle drinking more than a glass a day (I am sure contributes to my frequent headaches). I am trying to change this… I am down to 1 can of diet coke a day! I have started (this week) keeping slices of lemon readily available to give some taste to my water. So far, I drank 5 glasses yesterday (huge improvement) and on my 4th today. I do lose track so maybe the water bottle idea will work best. Thanks!
Nicole says
I’ve become a workout capri convert! UA Compression capris are my favorite so far.
Great idea about the H2O bottle with the time goals.
I have to walk down/up 4 flights of stairs to fill my water bottle–so it forces me to take a few minutes away from my desk to stretch and walk.
Sonia the Mexigarian says
i think i get enough water. i probably drink 2 L of tea a day plus my 24oz camelbak bottle. great idea though. i should do that for my dad. he needs more water.
Heather @fitncookies says
I love that idea!!! It’s totally doable! Sounds like you are fitting in quite well!
Beth @ Mangoes and Miles says
I’m so jealous! I’d love to have a job where I can wear athletic clothing to work!
I carry my Nalgene with me everywhere I go. (Literally. It never leaves my side.) It’s become a habit for me to sip from it every now and then. I actually overdeveloped that habit to the point where I was drinking an unnecessarily large amount of water each day, so I’ve slowly started attempting to scale that back while still getting enough! My bladder has thanked me. 😛
Heather says
I have always struggled with drinking enough water. I have started again and drink Trader Joe’s Sparkling spring water in Mandarin Orange. This helps a great deal, love it!
Beth Sheridan says
I am also jealous of your work apparel!!
I ALWAYS want a flavor when I have a drink, so it’s hard for me to drink as much water as I’m supposed to. Most of the time, if I know I need to be drinking more, I’ll grab a piece of peppermint gum and a cold bottle of water and the flavor from the gum seems to help, as weird as it may seem 🙂
Fizz says
I definitely struggle with not drinking enough water!
One thing that worked surprisingly well for me was simply buying a really cute water cup. I bought a spotted cup with lid and straw and I find myself drinking waaaayy more water than before!
Sometimes it is the littlest, silliest things!
Nicole @ FruitnFitness says
I have no problem drinking water, I actually think I usually drink too much water. It’s better to drink water than soda though adn as long as you don’t mind frequent trips to the bathroom keeps me feeling refreshed all day.
Tara says
I use to hate the taste of water, leaving years of being dehydrated. Now I can’t get enough! I’ll drink 1-2 liters a day, which is good for my metabolic needs.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
oh I definitely don’t struggle to drink enough water! I have a big camelbak water bottle and I probably drink anywhere from 6-10 of them a day!
Emily Mastrantonio says
I definitely struggle with drinking enough water. I started buying LaCroix (the coconut flavor is the best) and use that as a carbonation fix instead of Coke.
Shannon in Tustin says
That is one thing I don’t struggle with; I drink loads of water. I have a 24 oz tumbler with straw that I fill repeatedly at work. I probably drink 3-4 each day. My biggest trouble is cutting myself off early enough for my evening run (can’t empty my bladder fast enough!) 🙂
Love the capris, but my man calves look awful in anything that is in-between like that. I must stop above the knee or go all the way to my shoes. Oh well…
Happy Tuesday.
Andrea B. says
I do good while I’m at work, but I struggle to be good at water consumption when I am home. I’m just too busy to think about it.
Victoria @ Reluctantly Skinny says
I probably don’t drink enough water – my fiancee yells at me all the time – but I’m working on it! I keep a tumbler with me at work that I try to fill up every time I pass the sink, but at home I tend to forget about it while I’m doing other things. I’ve been trying to keep a water bottle out as a reminder.
Chelsea says
I KNOW I need to drink more water, and I’ve seen this flaring around Pinterest, but I have a hard time finding clear bpa free water bottles :/ one day, lol!

I’ve never seen a Nalgene bottle that wasn’t 100% BPA free! Glass bottles are up and coming as well, if you can trust yourself not to break it (I can’t haha)
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I always make sure I have a water bottle or a glass of water with my most of the time. That way I drink enough water.
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
That time deadline water bottle idea is great! I actually don’t usually have a hard time getting in enough water – sometimes I probably even end up drinking too much 😳 One thing that really helped me get into the habit of drinking enough when I was first struggling was to fill up a 2L jug of water and make sure I finished it by the end of the day.
Melissa @ Freeing Imperfections says
I go on and off with my struggle to drink enough water. I got a good water bottle that was finally big enough, and the straw part broke, so now I’m back to square one. I feel like I go through good water bottles fast so I am not keen on buying yet another. It’s annoying to refill so many times in one day but I’ve just started using two different ones.
Valerie says
I have a large 30 oz tumbler (with a purple straw!) from a hospital visit, with measurements printed right on the sides, so the nurses can make sure you’re drinking enough. It still helps me keep track! I fill it at least three times a day.
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I keep a water bottle at my desk and drink from it all day long. I usually try to drink 20 oz. by lunchtime, and then another 20 oz. from lunch until I go home. Strangely enough, when I bring a water bottle with a straw, I seem to drink a lot more!
candice@hungrymotherrunner says
I use to struggle but started trying to drink a gallon a day and it kinda stuck. I carry a bottle in my purse, in my car , in my gym bag, EVERYWHERE I go, I always have it with me. If I forget I have that same feeling that you get when you forget your phone!
PS. I just redesigned and renamed my blog! check it out!

Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
Drinking water is my downfall. I drink other liquids like green tea and chocolate milk, but I can never motivate myself to just have WATER!
Jessica @ FromtheKitchentotheRoad says
I am pretty good about drinking water. I have a huge water bottle that I carry around with me. I try to drink 2 of them per day. It works out to a gallon a day. I am a heavy sweater when I work out so I think I need more than the average person. I drink when I am thirsty which is all the time.
