Seriously.
Just look at this mess!
I kind of want to cry, scream and jump for joy all at the same moment. Cry because I’m sad we’re leaving Orlando. Scream because in addition to boxing everything up, we’re also disinfecting EVERYTHING because I don’t want any trace of mice germs coming with us to Ocala. (It’s taking foreverrr.) And I want to jump for joy because I’m excited about this next part of our journey.
I’m not particularly good at handling the unexpected when it comes to big events.
When Ryan and I decided to move to Ocala for his new job, I figured the transition would go smoothly and we’d find ourselves moving into a nice home without a hitch. I didn’t anticipate moving our stuff into storage, living out of a suitcase and having no set home to move into on the horizon.
I like a plan and in my day-to-day life have most things in my personal and professional life ironed out way ahead of time. I’m punctual, organized and responsible and this whole moving experience is testing all of these traits and making me explore my more go-with-the-flow and whatever-happens-happens side.
I can’t wait until I’m blogging from my own home office! There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Pig Bath
In other news, some of Sadie’s favorite toys got a bath this morning in preparation for the big move.
These little pigs were diiirty! Sadie has a serious love for her toy pigs and they were in desperate need of a run through the washing machine.
Much better!
Lunch
After boxing up all of our junk (we still have yet to touch the room of shit) and doing multiple loads of laundry, we took a break for lunch.
Ryan tackled the kitchen in his morning boxing session, so I limited my lunch options to the food that wasn’t boxed up yet and used mostly food from the fridge.
I made myself a big ol’ salad with peaches, turkey, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and chia seeds, all dressed up in a balsamic vinaigrette.
The peaches were the best part! I love a pop of sweetness in my salads.
As I was typing up this blog post, we got a call about another house in Ocala, available August 1!!! We’ve basically ruled out the possibility of moving right into a place from our current apartment, so it would be AMAZING if this one works out.
We have an appointment to see it at 3 p.m., so I gotta boogie!
See ya for dinner, friends!
Question of the Afternoon
- Are you a planner or are you a more go-with-the-flow type of person?
If you’re more go-with-the-flow, please teach me your ways!
Lauren says
I’m definitely more of a planner, and have a hard time not freaking out if my plans don’t happen, or change unexpectedly. I’m trying to ease my control freak ways, though, and just be happy with whatever happens. Good luck with looking at the house–I completely understand the stress you’re under, and I hope it works out for the best 🙂
Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles says
I’m a planner and my husband is a go-with-the-flow type of person – we balance each other out!
Good luck with the new house – hope it works out!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
WOOHOOO! Good luck with the house, girlfriend!
And how on earth do you keep Sadie gently using those piggies? Chloe tears all her cute ones to shreds.
peanutbutterfingers says
She has three un pictured pigs that are too frail to make it in the wash. 😉
Junieb says
i am a planner! i need 6 weeks notice before i can even think about moving and i need a spreadsheet!!!
peanutbutterfingers says
Hahaa I feel ya!
Laura @ prettylittlewords says
Ooooh, good luck with the house!!!
Doesn’t moving make you want to throw everything away and start over?? Haha
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
WAhoo!!! Good luck with that house!
I love moving because it makes me de-junk….but I hate it, because it makes me have to pack. Hah.
Best of luck—light IS at the end of the tunnel!
Jen from The Paper Pod says
Planner! I try to be “on the go” but it pretty much stresses me out! I love Sadie’s Pig Collection! Good luck with the move. I can’t wait to hear about the progress!
Amy says
I am SUCH a planner!! Talk about anxiety when something unexpected comes up…I try and remember that life throws blips and there’s nothing you can do!!! Good luck with the house today 🙂
Girl in the pink says
Ahh I hate to pack!!
I’m your total opposite, I hate to plan! Although, I would go nuts not having a comfy home base – I like having my house in order!
Amanda says
Just think, it a short time while you’re sitting in your OWN beautiful house, you’ll be looking back at this little hiccup laughing. My husband and I bought an OLD home and re-did the entire thing, EVERYTHING! I was in tears throughout the process but looking back I wouldn’t change any of it. It makes you truly appreciate what you have!
peanutbutterfingers says
That would be so stressful to me, but incredibly rewarding. I’m sure your house is perfect now!
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
My fingers are crossed for you that this house is a winner!!
I’m a planner… I like to think I’m go with the flow… but alas, I’m not!
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
Ah, I’m a planner to a T, and living with a man who likes to fly by the seat of his pants can get a little stressful (and a little hilarious when I back off of telling him what to bring or pack and he ends up at the beach with no towel, only topsiders as shoes, and having packed one pair of boxers.)
I guess we kind of complete each other.
Jennifer says
I am a planner, but I’ve had to let that go in the midst of moving as well. Banks are SLOW and they don’t care if you want to just HURRY UP. I’m glad you ate a beautiful salad instead of grabbing fast food like I’ve been doing in the midst of moving. For more great healthy tips check out my blog runningwithmascara.com
Jess @JessCantCook says
I like the theory of planning but I’m pretty bad at the execution so by default I sort of go with the flow 🙂
Blair says
PLANNER. Big time!! I hope the viewing goes smoothly!
Brittany @ ittybitsofbalance says
The pig toys are adorable! I have a friend (a person, not a dog) who loves pigs and he’s always an easy one to buy gifts for 😀
Good luck on the move!
Ellen @ Cinnamonalicious says
Oh gosh I WISH I was more of a planner!!
I’m so laid-back I’m practically going backwards at times…
I think a healthy medium between you & I would be the perfect mix!haha!
I need to start packing my stuff up soon too…. dreading it!
Lisa says
I’m more of a go-with-the-flow person, although I can totally relate because there’s something daunting about having all of your stuff in boxes all over the place. It is just not comfortable!
I try not to hold expectations of how things will pan out day-by-day – you never know what life throws at you! I think it’s good to have a plan but keep your options open and your mind flexible to what may happen. You’re definitely doing the right thing by focusing on the positives! A home office is an awesome thing to look forward to! 🙂
Jaime says
I am the biggest planner, in everything, but especially when it comes to moving. I always have things packed months in advance. Part of that is I get excited to move, but it also makes it so much easier. That said, I have recently had some health problems come out of nowhere which have kind of forced me to let go of my obsessive planning. I also just did a last minute move. I found out on Thursday that I had to move and was in my new place by the next Thursday, and surprisingly my new less rigid self was okay with that.
I have also done temporary housing before. I lived in a hotel for about a month when I first moved from the west coast to the midwest because I had the worst time finding housing. It wasn’t too bad. I still miss the room service and daily housekeeping! 😉 Good luck!
Holly @ The Runny Egg says
I’m definitely more of a planner.
I love that Sadie loves pigs! I used to love pigs when I was a kid and had tons of stuffed animal pigs. So cute!
Mary @ food and fun on the run says
I am such a planner! I have to have everything very planned out – whether it is the weekend, vacations, etc. I don’t know where I got it from, because everyone else in my family is completely the opposite!
Yayan @ About a Kitten says
Good luck with the house! I hope it works out!
I definitely need to plan everything out…I get way stressed out otherwise!
Amy says
HUGE planner… One thing in particular is our weekly meal plan. My hubby picks on me about the “school lunch schedule” I have posted on the fridge every week. But hey, I like to know whats ahead of me! 🙂
Alexandria says
I am moving across the country next week & am dreading it/having panic attacks because of the physical moving part but am ecstatic about my new life. Moving always produces such mixed emotions & it such a hassle. I just want to get rid of everything & start over.
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
I’m very much a planner!
It must be difficult moving with Sadie in tow?
peanutbutterfingers says
that’s actually one of the major stressors. unfortunately all of the temp apartment housing won’t lease for just one month and the extended stay hotels don’t allow dogs… mehhhhh.
Hillary says
I am a planner to a fault. I try to be easy going, I swear I do, but it’s just not in my DNA. I try to let go of things that I have no control over, but if I do have a shred of control, you better believe I’m planning the crap out the situation ; )
Liza says
My husband and I are in the middle of a big transition as well. Actually, we have been for the past two years really! We moved from small town Ohio to Manhattan for him to attend law school…and then each summer we leave NYC and live in DC so he can work there and I can attend school. We both feel like we have been nomads for the past two years. He has one year left of school, but we just found out YESTERDAY we are going to be staying in NYC for another year because he accepted and offer to clerk for a federal judge upon graduation! We are both so so so excited, and slightly terrified. Currently, we are in student housing in NYC but the second he graduates they kick you out, so we know we have to move next summer. Up until yesterday we really had no clue where we were going to be the following year because he was applying to clerk all over, so now we are trying to think of where we are going to live in NYC. I am not the biggest fan of Manhattan so I think we are going to look in Brooklyn and try to find a place that feels more homey. It still has not hit me yet that we are actually staying in NYC (I have said for the past two years that the second he is done with school we are OUT OF THERE….but this clerkship opportunity is too amazing for him to pass up!). It feels good to know where we will be for the next two years, but still really nerve-racking to think we will be kinda on our own in the big city, without any sort of school keeping us there. Sorry for the long comment!
Lauren @ Sugar Coated Sisters says
the big text block caught my eye… SO happy that you can quit the nomad lifestyle for just a little bit! congrats to your hubs!
Alexa @ Simple Eats says
I can not imagine how you’re feeling! I would be stressed out too. I guess the best thing to do is remember, it can only go up from here! Plus, if this new house works out, that’s awesome!
Lauren @ Sugar Coated Sisters says
I’m a little bit of both…
My problem is that I overbook my calendar <- too much PLANNING
Then, to make it all fit, I HAVE to go with the flow.
That means bumming rides from San Francisco with random friends Sunday mornings so I can go out Saturday nights with them
It means waking up at 5am for the gym so that after work I can go play volleyball with friends or see a movie with my boyfriend… etc
But you know what, it is ALL WORTH IT. Repeat that to yourself over and over and over (maybe in a show tune melody? haha)
Hayley @ hayley daily says
I’d say I’m a mix between a planner and go-with-the-flow kinda person. For things that I care about a lot, I plan plan plan until I can’t plan anymore. Like…I already have meals planned out for when I move home in 3 weeks and can cook again. Yeah, a bit much, I know, haha.
AshleyC says
We’re moving over 1000 miles in a few weeks. I’m a little overwhelmed. And, I thought the same thing when I started pakcing all our stuff – We have a lot of crap!
Stephanie says
I’m definitely a PLANNER! Especially when it comes to traveling, and so is the rest of my crazy family. On the first family vacation my fiance came on we had a 5am flight for 10 people (2 of which were babies). At 10pm the night before he had not packed ANYTHING, couldn’t find his passport (!!!), realized he didn’t own flip flops (who doesn’t own flip flops?!), and decided it would be a good time to take down the christmas tree. I was furious and freaking out. He was laughing at me and telling me it will all be okay, and it was. It always is!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I think I am a mix between planner and go with the flow. I don’t plan everything last detail, but I do like to have a general plan. If the plan deviates, I usually don’t freak out. Usually. 😉 I LOVE how Sadie likes her stuffed pigs. She’s such a cutie.
Have you looked on rentals.com? I used it when I moved to Charlotte. There seem to be a good bit of houses for rent in Oscala…although you may still face that 20 minutes from everything problem.

Danielle says
I’m much more go with the flow, but all of my friends/mom are planners, so I totally get it. I LOVE the picture of Sadie with her pigs. The caption is perfect!
Lisa @ Read.Breathe.Relax. says
Good luck, Julie!! I really hope that house works out for you! I’m going to miss you tons!! :'(
Claire @ Live and Love to Eat says
Aww, you’re getting me stressed about moving – but its right after we get married so I’m way more stressed about that! Sadie’s pigs are too cute!
Rachel says
i think i’m an in-betweener. i like change but i also like to be settled and know what’s going to happen (i’m not a huge risk taker).
i moved out of my old apartment in early january and couldn’t move into my current place until mid-february. i lived out of a suitcase for 6 weeks and had boxes piled in my temporary place.
i was absolutely ready to be settled somewhere but living out of a suitcase made me realize that i have way too much crap!! if i can live with just a few things for 6 weeks then i probably don’t need all the stuff that i do have.
good luck! hopefully something works out sooner for you guys!
Danielle Spellman @ Squirrel Snackin' says
In the past week I’ve learned that packing to move is NOT fun! You really don’t realize how much stuff you have until it’s time to pack it up. Now I’m looking at the pile I have to unpack here in Fort Walton Beach lol Good luck with the move!
P.S. Your pictures of Sadie pretty much always make my day 🙂
Nathan Miller says
Plan, Plan, and Plan. My plans have to have plans with them. I am very organized and perhaps a bit too organized and a planner for those around me, but it just makes me feel so much better throughout the day if I know what my schedule looks like weeks in advance. I plan the weeks supper menu for us on the Thursday before!
Andrea @ Onion in My Hair says
Think of this time in your life as a good lesson!
I think almost ALL women are type-a planners.
(I am a card-carrying control freak myself!) And it’s easy to let situations like moving ruffle our feathers.
Everything will work itself out; you guys will find a gorgeous home and one day (this is SO true!) you will laugh about the time period that you spent stressed about it.
This much I promise you! Good luck with the appointment!
Amy @ Elephant Eats says
omg, I’m such a planner and I dread having to do things without advanced prep…especially something like moving! In nyc you can’t look for an apt any more than 2 wks ahead of time since things move so quickly…but I couldn’t deal with that since I knew I had to be out of my other apt at a certain time. So I basically looked for places about 2 months ahead and ended up having to take an apt that was ready a month before I needed to move just because I was nervous about not finding someplace otherwise. This also meant paying two rents for one month. Ugh, sometimes I need to learn to let loose…if you learn anything in this process, please pass it along!
Diana says
I feel like it’s a very feminine trait to be a “planner” and one that I definitely wish I had!
I am “go with the flow” to an absolute fault – making plans and not having wriggle room for spontaneity gives me hives. I also generally find that life works out better than I could’ve planned it, anyway, so sometimes you’ve just got to let go and let the universe sort it out for you!
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Sending good house vibes your way! Hope you love the place!
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I feel ya. I have a hard time with uncertainty and changing plans. Only on vacation can I truly relax and go with the flow. Everyday life? Forget about it! I need to make a list for everything and love checking things off. Good luck with the move!
Jillian says
I am totally a planner, but have been trying to adjust to being able to go with the flow! It’s hard but I think it’s all mental!
Hope says
I am a huge planner. I need to have everything planned out just so or else it drives me crazy. Good luck with everything! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for your appointment! 🙂
Your salad looks great by the way! 🙂
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
I’m like you… the organizer and planner. And this year has really been a test of my faith and patience. When I moved up to Ohio from Florida, I lived with a family that I didn’t even know for about 4 months before Brandon and I got married. And half of my stuff is still down in Florida at my mom’s place. So I’ve had to adjust to living with the bare minimum. And now, I have to drive 1.5 hours each way to and from work every day, since Brandon’s house hasn’t sold yet.
None of this is complaining… I really have learned to just go with it. But I can tell you that I sympathize with you! 🙂
kristen says
Hope it works out!
Alisa @ Running with Knives says
Good luck with the house!
I’m totally a planner and organizer, without a doubt. But I can play it by ear, as long as I plan that free-time into my schedule and can make concrete plans around it.
Shanna, Like Banana says
I’m a total planner with little stuff and the day to day and weekends, but I also LOVE big changes. If my hubby said we were moving to the East Coast next month, I’d be ALL for it!
Good luck on the house!
