Is Wednesday too late to share some highlights from our weekend? Perhaps, but let’s dive into some of the high points from last weekend when two of my best girlfriends from college came to visit!
- Laurel and Merri Meet Chase
Merri lives in NYC and Laurel lives in Orlando and since they both live a plane flight away, it meant a lot to me to have them visit us in Charlotte. It was so neat to see two of my very best friends from college hold Chase for the first time and seem so excited about our expanding family. Oh how times have changed from our crazy nights out in college to loungin’ on the couch with a baby!
Chase loved both Merri and Laurel and having two friends to hold Chase all weekend gave me and Ryan a little break from full-time baby duty. Merri made the comment that anytime someone else would hold Chase, I’d go into overdrive mode and start baking muffins for breakfast or straightening up the living room. I think I’ve fallen into the habit of doing as much as possible whenever I have help with our little guy! Fortunately I did make a concerted effort to just relax a bit during their visit and spent my fair share of the weekend chillin’ on the couch chatting for hours with my girlfriends. (<—The best!)
- Hiking
The last time Merri visited us in Charlotte, we took her hiking at Lake Norman State Park and since she loved the hike, our little group headed up to Troutman to complete a three-mile loop on Sunday morning. Of course Sadie came along and had a blast. We’ve been having our fair share of rain in Charlotte (apparently the #NoSunNovember hashtag has gained momentum in our area), so it was nice to have a little reprieve from the rain and we definitely made the most of it.
Laurel and I spent most of the hike talking about Thanksgiving favorites (hiking and talking about food = totally our style) and we dove deep into important discussions about things like the best pies, Thanksgiving sides and more. Can you tell we were hungry on our hike!? (FYI, I think stuffing is the BEST side, followed closely by sweet potato casserole. And pumpkin pie will always be my favorite!)
- Bro Babies Reunited
After our Sunday hike, we stopped for milkshakes and lunch before arriving back at home where we were joined by our friends Jarian and Melissa and their 9-week old baby boy! We’ve been dying to get our kiddos together since our last visit when they officially became “Bro Babies” and it was so fun to see them wiggle and squirm next to each other on the couch. I loved seeing all of their similarities (so many cute baby grunts and coos!) and am excited to see them continue to grow up together.
- Game Time
With the dreary weather in full force on Saturday, we ended up spending more time around the house than we initially planned, but thankfully games, stand up comedy specials on Netflix and candy made things much more fun! We played several rounds of Scattergories and Chase fell asleep in my arms in the most awkwardly hilarious position (seen above). What a little champ!
And that was our weekend in a nutshell! I hope you guys are having a great week so far!

Looks like a great weekend! Chase is getting so big! Quick questions, I love your distressed jeans, where are they from?
Julie says
Nordstrom Rack! They were only $30. The brand is Just USA (I think it’s actually a Juniors brand – haha – but hey, you can’t beat $30)!
Christina @ Embracing Simple says
Good morning Julie!
Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with your two besties, and Lake Norman is looking seriously stunning! I can’t wait until I’m back in Charlotte 🙂
Have a great day!

Aww, love that your friends came such a long way to see your little guy! And, hey, I STILL rush around the house like a lunatic when my son is asleep/someone is here to entertain him!

Love your friend Merri sweater in the first pic. Any ideas where she got it from?
Bro babies is so cute!!

I know all about living hundreds (thousands :'( ) of miles away from your besties! But visits ease all the pain 🙂 So happy you got a fun weekend with your friends!!

So, sweet. It is fun when your friends get to see you as a new mom. It is almost like they are meeting a new person. Motherhood not only changes you, it changes all of your relationships too. My friends and I love playing “Things” lately. Check it out if you haven’t played. SOOOO fun!

Love this – you’re friends are amazing to keep traveling in to see little Chase! Granted, he’s the sweetest little guy in the world, so I can’t say I blame them…
Hope you caught up on some great Netflix! This is our last casual weekend (other than registering for our wedding) leading up to the holidays. I’m already incredibly excited to fit some r&r into our plans. 🙂

Okay, so I know that I think all babies are pretty much adorable, but you have a spectacularly cute baby! Seriously, I love his toothless smile.

I was waiting for this update and no I do not think Wednesday is too late! I commented on your meal planning post and I realize it probably sounded short but I was just curious about how you did it and was posting quickly during work -so, my apologies. I love your blog so much. I am pregnant (only a few weeks left) and love all the pregnancy and baby-related posts but what I love most about your blog is all of the personal stuff you share about how you fill your time and also how you are coping with being a new mom. I love reading these types of blogs but they are difficult to find so thanks for not being afraid to be real with us because it really makes for good reading! Also, you seem like a great mom!

The rain and gloom here has been pretty awful lately, hasn’t it?! At least the sun is out this week! Looks like you had a wonderful weekend regardless. PS – I saw you mentioned in the Charlotte Agenda email and almost squealed! Felt like an insider 🙂
Kim from MN says
It’s never too late for weekend updates, even weeks later! Weekend-days are fun days, and reminiscing about them (mine and others) gives a great boost to any week. Looks like you had a fun time – your conversations with your best girlfriends remind me of my conversations with my best girlfriends. Sooooo happy! (Can there BE anything better than great friends??)
Just have to toss out a big LOL on Chase’s sideways sleep position. LOL. THAT is adorable. ha ha! Maybe he’ll become an early planker? A baby planker? (Remember that trend? Blast from the internet-past!)
Oh! And I have a game recommendation for you – Consensus!! I think I may even have recommended it here once before, but it’s fantastic. All ages love it, and I bring it to parties with friends and parties with my whole family (Thanksgiving), and from 14-84, everybody loves it.

Love your hat and in desperate need of something similar. Where’s it from??
