White chocolate and peppermint.
A match made in heaven.
I would love to paint a beautiful holiday picture in your head and tell you that I made this recipe last night and Ryan and I cozied up on the couch together in front of the fire to enjoy it while watching A Charlie Brown Christmas.
But that would be a lie.
First, during round one of this recipe, I burnt the popcorn
Second, we don’t have a fireplace.
And third, while we did eat it together on the couch, our movie of choice had a little less Snoopy and a lot more wolf pack (umm, The Hangover).
I got the idea for this recipe when I saw white-chocolate covered popcorn at the grocery store yesterday and then saw white chocolate and peppermint-covered pretzels on sale in the next aisle.
I’m such a sucker for sweet and salty, so when I had some white chocolate and lots of crumbled peppermint pieces leftover from the peppermint bark, I popped up a bag of popcorn and got creative!
White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn
Serves Two
Ingredients:
- 1 100 calorie-size bag butter popcorn
- 3 ounces white chocolate (I used Baker’s white chocolate baking blocks)
- 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 5 peppermint candies or one candy cane (plus more for garnish, if desired)
Directions:
- Pop popcorn according to package instructions in microwave. Set aside.
- Pulse peppermint candies in food processor until pieces are very fine and near dust-like consistency.
- Melt white chocolate in microwave on high in 30 second intervals, stirring regularly.
- Stir peppermint extract and peppermint candies into chocolate.
- Pour chocolate over popcorn, stirring quickly to ensure even coating over the popcorn.
- Garnish with additional peppermint candies and enjoy!
Be warned: This recipe was inhaled in less than two minutes in our house and left us with white chocolate-covered fingertips which we happily licked clean.
Ohh this looks dangerously good…alternative ideas are going on in my head right now like milk chocolate and crushed hazelnuts!
yessssssss! i want some of THAT!
Well now all I can think about is where I can get my hands on some Nutella
Oh oh oh, I’m going to have to make some of this, too!!! Yummm!
Chocolate and popcorn are a match made…yes! Every year we usually do a peanut, popcorn and chocolate bowl for everyone to munch on…it lasts around 5 minutes!
Yum, yum, yum. I LOVE white chocolate, but I might try this with Nutella tonight. I can’t imagine it’ll last that long in my house either!
I am obsessed with peppermint bark right now so I would love this too. I also made chocolate covered peppermint marshmallows for in hot chocolate yesterday – yummy!
that sounds unreal!
Sweet baby Jesus, this looks AH-MAY-ZING.
UM this sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing!! I’m definitely going to try this.

Sadie is so yawning! Funny ! 😀
This looks soooo good!! I can’t help but laugh out loud at the Sadie picture! She is one photogenic pup that is probably happy to be the center of attention again after your ‘girls weekend’!
Yep, this is happening at our house soon. Sounds amazing!
Umm…heaven?! I think so!
Such an amazing idea!! sweet and salty anything is delicious. I’ll have to make this!!
Mmmmm to me, peppermint covered pretzels sound amaaazing!! It’s so funny b/c I hear the sweet+salty thing is mostly for women. Most men don’t tend to fancy it that much 😛 I love it too! Like, sea salt dark chocolate!
Oh my gosh you are amazing! That looks so delicious :D.
Great idea. I’m also a sucker for the sweet/salty combo. Gets me every time!
Oh wow, this sounds fantastic Julie! Love the salty and sweet combo – and it sounds so easy to make (provided that the popcorn popping goes according to plan!)
Love how I was scrolling through and up pops Sadie with her mouth wide open. HAHA.
Peppermint is absolutely my favorite seasonal flavor as far as treats go. I can’t wait to give this a go later.
Such a great and easy idea!!! Yay fat pants 😉 haha I love xmas
Interesting idea! I’d definetly need to use a bigger bag of popcorn though. 😉
You are a genius – this looks delicious! I’m a sucker for sweet/salty stuff too, so I’m sure I’d love this.
I absolutely love peppermint bark and popcorn so I will definitely have to try this. I need to invest in some peppermint extract first though.
P.S. I just added you to my blogroll. I’m an avid reader 🙂
thanks so much, maria! i feel honored!

I just almost LOL’d at work when I saw the picture of Sadie thrown in with all the food pictures.
That was so funny!!!
YUM! Making this tonight! The BF loves white chocolate and I love mint so I imagine this will be gone in seconds flat.
Yum! White chocolate, pepperment, and I are best friends this time of year. Throw in salty, and I am one happy girl!
I kind of just died and went to popcorn heaven. This looks amazing.
Yum! 🙂 I think I’ll try this, but with dark chocolate..it’s what I have at the moment and I love dark chocolate! I used to love sandwiching raisinettes between my popcorn at the movies. 🙂 so maybe I’ll toss in some raisins, too! Will the hot chocolate make the popcorn soggy at all?
LOLOLOLOLOLOL The random photo of Sadie made me laugh right out loud in front of my students!!!!!! She’s so adorable!!!
Looks delicious and very easy to make!
This looks really good!! Perfect movie snack!
Ohh this looks so good! And I love the hangover! So funny!!
I love the flavored popcorns!! What a great combo!!!!!!
I cannot wait to try this popcorn. YUM! Thanks for the idea!
White choc + peppermint is a fave combo of mine. Sweet + salty is another fave combo. In other words, that looks dangerously delectable.
Miss you!
OMG this looks amazing!!!! I feel like I’m always tempted by those specialty popcorns but had no idea it would be so easy to make one myself! YUM!
You have the best food on you blog – I think I’m going to gain weight just from reading it! That popcorn looks AWESOME!

…have you seen the jet-puffed peppermint marshmallows??? i can’t wait to try some rice krispy treats with them!!
That looks amazing! I’ve never thought of making my own flavored popcorn! Lots of combos of chocolate, caramel, and nuts are furiously racing through my head. Must. Have. Popcorn.
Salty sweet combo is so good! When I used to live in Atlanta (circa 2001), the grocery store there had Rice Krispy Treat popcorn. It was amazing!
We totally watched the hangover last night!! But we snacked on frozen yogurt with boba candy on top! So fun when the candy pops in your mouth!
