Today is going to be a pretty solid mix of work and play! First up: Work (that really felt like play)! My alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. and I drove to the gym to teach my 6 a.m. spin class. Today’s class ended up being all women which was fun and also a bit unusual since I usually have a pretty decent split of half men and half women. Apparently all the guys were sleepy this morning!
My rockstar women riders and I had a good time on the bike and when I was done, I stuck around for another 30 minutes to get some things set up for the day before driving home and picking up Ryan. I had to take him into work today since he cannot drive (he tore his ACL on his right leg, so driving is out for a little while) and after I dropped him off, I made a pit stop at Starbucks to redeem my free birthday drink coupon at Starbucks.
(Latte + Chocolate Overnight Oats)
I stuck with a decaf cinnamon dolce latte but wish I had the ability to come up with a more creative drink to make my free drink coupon feel a little more special. But at least I know a cinnamon dolce latte will always be a winner!
Aaand just because typing the above paragraph made me curious, I Googled “most expensive drink at Starbucks” and found this:
Don’t say I never taught you anything.
And now let’s reel things in after that lovely little anecdote…
Like I said, today is going to be a solid mix of work and play!
- Work: Teach spinning
- Play: Pedicure date with Brittany
- Work: Back to the gym for more work
- Play: Coach Girls On The Run
- Play: Girls On The Run Coaches Dinner
Time to hop in the shower!
Question of the Morning
- If you have ever worked at a coffee shop, what are some of the craziest things you’ve seen people order?
Marielle says
Omg that drink sounds terrifying!!! lol! Well I’m from Seattle so I’ve heard some ridiculous orders before regarding the coffee temperature and people complaining about foam and no foam. I keep my order pretty straight forward with a vanilla latte! 🙂
Sky says
How could you justify paying that much on a drink?! I guess if you really really like coffee.
I love days where I get to work and play. The fly by!
Alexa says
i think she ordered it for her free birthday drink! otherwise… she crayyyy
Kelly says
Just thought I’d share that LOFT has a bunch of maternity clothing on sale and is having an extra 40% off all sale items!
Annette Perkins (@FitnessPerks) says
That does sound like the perfect mix of work & play. Enjoy! I so need a pedicure ASAP, so you must post a pic of what color you chose!
Jenn @ Fairest Run of All says
I think the challenge should be modified so that you have to use a Starbucks cup. I mean, this is definitely impressive, but I’d like to see what creativity the constraint would spark!
Julie says
I agree!! I think that would be more intriguing!
JordynAshley says
Sounds like an awesome day planned 🙂 Have you had any caffeine at all since you have been pregnant? I have this vision that when I’m pregnant, I won’t drink any caffeine at all but who knows how well that will go 😉
UnlockingKiki says
Wow that Starbucks drink is crazy, 100 shots!
Chelsea @ Raw N' Toned says
I always forget about that HUGE drink haha last fall Starbucks had some halloween inspired drinks, and I remember when my coworker got one and I thought it was ridiculous haha. Nope, that $86 dollar one takes the cake!
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul says
I need to get a pedicure so badly! I’m hoping tonight!!
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
That drink is insane. I wish I was that creative! My heart would prob explode after drinking it though…
Monica says
A regular Starbucks latte with half hazelnut syrup and half toffee nut syrup is incredible!
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
100 shots! Why oh why would anyone need that! Cinnamon dolce is my favourite at Starbucks too.
lisa valinsky says
I love thinking about getting something fun when I’m up for my Starbucks birthday reward…but never end up coming up with anything too outrageous. Ha.
Enjoy your pedicure! That sounds lovely, and makes me think I’ll have to go with my mom and sister for Mother’s Day.
Tricia says
I was a barista for three years! The most interesting? A strawberry smoothie with a shot of espresso… 😛
Julie says
oh wow!! not exactly appealing right off the bat, but I’d give it a try if it were a free sample 🙂
Katie says
I am so envious of your day, I need a pedi bad, after I run my half this weekend I am scheduling one! I am working at home today due to our offices being closed as a result of all the violence in Baltimore. I am happy to be home safe enjoying some coffee out of the Keurig, but my favorite by far is Wawa!
Christina M says
Your day sounds like fun!! Don’t forget your free bday gift @ Sephora (if you’re a Beauty Insider – which is free to become!) – my sister always reminds me of this each year!! 🙂
Hayley @ Full of Life says
Wow that drink is intense! I always just crack up when women order super lengthy complicated drinks “decaf 1 pump sugar free no foam light room…” etc. I am super basic with my coffee orders so I always wonder when the person at the registrar is thinking when someone is really picky!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
There’s nothing wrong with sticking to your faves! I always order a green tea matcha latte if available, otherwise it’s some sort of tea. How nice of your to drive Ryan around! Have fun with the girls tonight! 🙂
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Yikes, that Starbucks drink sounds crazy! I could never drink that!!
Enjoy your pedi!
Stefanie says
I don’t remember any weird orders, but the coffee shop I worked at allowed us free drinks while we were working, so my coworkers and I decided to make an Italian soda with every syrup flavor we had, which I want to say was easily 20 different flavors……and let’s just say our creation did not end up in the menu.
Beks says
My teeth hurt looking at that drink! Yikes! Though, if you want your money’s worth. LOL
Char @ Run Happy says
Wow, I am jaw-dropping shocked at that Starbucks order. That is both disgusting and absolutely crazy! I’m hoping she was sharing that with 80 people haha. I once did a trial shift at a coffee shop in Australia when I lived there, but I couldn’t accept the job. Their coffee names and system is just WAY different than ours. I felt like I would need a manual to learn it all. I ended up working at Wet ‘n’ Wild there instead haha.
Morgan @ Managing Mommyhood says
I’ve seen that drink posted somewhere before, but not with the caffiene content listed! I accidently had my first caffienated latte since I was pregnant (my son is 11 months) ) and I shook all afternoon! Can you imagine the jitters that drink would give someone?!
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
That drink looks incredibly intense…I’d never be able to have anything like it! I stick to iced coffee usually, I’m not one for frills in my drinks. Plus as a New England native I drink iced coffee in December 🙂
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
That Starbucks drink is INSANE!!
Enjoy your pedicure with Brittany! That sounds pretty amazing right about now. 😉
Somer @PupsOnTheBrain says
Yowza that drink is crazy. I’m so thankful I’ve never worked as a barista before because I think complicated drink orders would stress me out to no end. I give serious credit to the people who do it well!
Lindsey says
As a former barista for many a coffee chains, I’ll say the woman that ordered(via her “assistant” she sent) a venti caramel frapp with caramel drizzle allllllll over the cup, plus ever 2 inches, she wanted a thick layer of caramel sauce. It was so sickening to make!!!! Also the most obnoxious were people who would get ANGRY when their “usual” drink of a white mocha had coffee in it!! Trying to explain to them that it always comes with shots of espresso was entertaining …
Shel@PeachyPalate says
Enjoy all the play!! 🙂
Brittany @ Lemon Lime Life says
Your day sounds full of fun (work or play)! After seeing that Starbucks, a caramel frappuccino sounds delicious right about now!
Kelly says
That drink sounds like it’d give you a heart attack! If not from the caffeine, from the sugar and fat. Wowwwwww. I can’t believe someone ordered that 🙂
Love that your days are so active. I wish I could be more active in my work-life.
Erin Cox says
Oooooooooh pedicure. I sure could use one of those. It sounds like the best little treat. So does your coffee. Sounds like a great day lined up. Jealous! 🙂
Nina says
I just laughed out loud into my salad about “Don’t say I never taught you anything”! I always freeze up when it’s time for me to order my Starbucks birthday drink and get something boring…now I know I need to step up my game.
Christina Stott says
I worked at a coffee shop all through college, and had one “regular” who would come in every single day and order a 20 ounce breve, which is a latte made with half-and-half instead of regular milk. So….20 ounces of half-and-half every day! Yikes, ha ha! Happy belated Birthday by the way, hope Sadie and Ryan spoiled you lots!
Amanda @ Slimplify Life says
No crazy coffee orders, I just needed to tell you that you win the impressive award for the day for having an alarm clock go off at 5:30am and in the gym teaching by 6AM.
Run Eat Play says
I was thinking the same thing!
Nona @ RunningHigh says
Omg that drink is huge. How do you even lug that around?! I worked in a coffee shop a few times, but never had anything really strange ordered. I guess people are typically safe with their coffee!
Dietitian Jess says
I always try to get something slightly creative when I get a freebie: next time add a couple pumps of mocha to your cinnamon dolce latte- its amazing!!!
Julie says
ooh! love that suggestion!
Melanie says
That drink is crazy!! Your day sounds like fun! Enjoy the pedicure 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
Teleport me so I can be included in these pedi plans with you girls, k? Thanks. 😉
Stacy @ Sweating TulipZ says
Oh Lord…I never got into Starbucks so when I do need a pick me up and am near one, I NEVER know what to order! But that Caffeine heart attack I think would kill me! Happy Belated Birthday!!!
Shelby says
Hi Julie! I am a newish reader of your blog!! I love it, by the way! I work at Starbucks and have for 5 years! People can be crazy particular about their drink, but it’s kind of fun to hear the concoctions people come up with! Cinnamon Dolce one of my favorite syrup flavors we have! You should try a cinnamon dolce latte with 2 pumps of the cinnamon dolce and 2 pumps of white mocha..tastes like a cinnamon roll! Another favorite of mine is an Americano with an extra shot and 2 pumps of white mocha, & 2 pumps of toffee nut!
Stephanie says
Hey Julie!
I’m interested in becoming a spinning/cycle instructor and was hoping you could give me some tips as far as which certifications to get. I don’t have any other certifications at this point so should I go to the group fitness certification first or the MDA Spinning or will I need both? I’ve been asking around at the gyms in my area too, but I’d love to hear any insight you might have!
Thanks!
Catherine Dream says
Love to read what you did in a day : )
Have you tried a London Fog at Starbucks? I love them to death, REALLY good. : )
trace says
Have you tried a latte with toffee nut syrup? The “TNL” was a holiday offering years and years ago with added toffee nut bits on top, but now they still carry the syrup and it’s delicious! And if you ever go to a local, specialty coffee shop, try a flat white! Microfoam is sorcery. The American starbucks flat white is not the same as most starbucks baristas don’t know how to make one properly.
Steph says
I worked at Starbucks for years and one regular would come in and order a venti of whipped cream in addition to his frappuccino every day….I love me some whipped cream, but that was gross!!
If you’re feeling adventurous try a latte with 2 pumps of white mocha and 2 pumps raspberry syrup….my fave 🙂
Julie says
Ooooh I want to order that!!!
Alana says
My neighborhood Starbucks now has the special reserve coffees and the Clover coffee machine. If you have one near you, try the West Java. It is AMAZING.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I’m not a coffee drinker, so maybe I don’t understand, but I can’t imagine spending $100 on a drink!
Melissa says
I definitely have a “go-to” Starbucks drink.. typically brewed coffee (ideally, the blonde roast) with sugar-free vanilla syrup. Yum! I’m looking forward to my birthday drink this coming week!
Caroline says
Hi Julie!
I’ve been a reader for years – I feel like I know you! I had a questions, a little random. I am planning my wedding and stumbled upon bridesmaids dresses I loved and saw your sister’s wedding featured through the site. Would you be able to provide me with your opinion on the tulle & chantilly dresses? Anything you would recommend or recommend against? I would really appreciate it!!
Also – so so so happy for you guys and the little bundle of joy on the way 🙂 You’re going to make amazing parents!
Thank you!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Lol…I have done some work in coffee shops, but haven’t been witness to any crazy orders. 🙂
Dottie (@crazyfitmommy) says
I haven’t had any tea or coffee in 3 years, but when I was a Starbucks regular I either got a quad shot americano or a brownie frappaccino with caramel…about as opposite as they get 😛
