Good morning!
I love that ridiculous face.
Workout
I awoke this morning with hamstrings that were still pretty sore from Monday’s leg workout.
I initially planned to workout legs today, but that just wasn’t happening. I decided to swap today’s workout with tomorrow’s planned run and ran five miles instead.
I was actually quite happy with this plan because I’m running in a 10k on Saturday and taking two days off from running before the race will help me feel fresh on race day. (The last 10k I participated in was more than a year and a half ago – back in March 2010! I’m excited to do another one because 10ks are my favorite race distance.)
I kicked up the pace of my morning run a bit, but incorporated a tiny bit of walking in the mix as well, so my run looked like this:
Distance | Speed |
0 – 2 miles | 6.5 |
2 – 2.1 miles | 4.0 |
2.1 – 3 miles | 6.5 |
3 – 3.1 miles | 4.0 |
3.1 – 3.5 miles | 6.5 |
3.5 – 4 miles | 6.8 |
4 – 4.1 miles | 4.0 |
4.1 – 4.5 miles | 6.8 |
4.5 – 4.8 miles | 7.0 |
4.8 – 5.0 miles | 6.8 |
Increasing my speed at the end of the run felt great. Even though Ryan is wonderful about running my pace during our long runs as we train for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, I have a feeling he’d ideally like to go faster, so any time I see progress in my speed, I’m a happy camper.
Breakfast
Breakfast today was delicious and comforting.
Gotta love pancakes on a week day!
I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes, topped them with nutmeg, banana slices and syrup and dug in.
Please make these if you haven’t already! They even got parental approval from Alyssa’s parents last week. That’s big time, folks.
Breakfast was served with a side of Godiva pumpkin pie spice coffee that made me wish I could open my windows, let in the cool fall breeze and watch colorful leaves blow by (because leaves frequently blow past your windows in the fall, you know).
After checking weather.com and seeing that today’s forecast calls for a high of 91 degrees, my dreams were squashed pretty quickly. And then I remembered that the owners of our house scheduled the pool guy to come by today to turn our swamp of a pool into a nice swimming environment again for all the hot days we have left and my fall wishes were really squashed. (Seriously, you should see our pool right now. It’s disgusting and likely crawling with amoebas.)
Speaking of fall, I told myself I must wait until October 1 to break out the fall décor. Have you guys decorated yet? I have some fall-themed placemats on our new table in our living room that I bought two weeks ago ($1.50 at Big Lots, baby!), but other than that, everything is boxed up until October. I’m getting antsy!
Lindsay says
I decorated the 1st of September… that seems to be the unofficial beginning of fall here in New York. We’ve already experienced 40 degree days and the leaves are well on their way to being completely orange and yellow.
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
A 10k is the only race I’ve ran to date and I really loved the distance. (Then again I havenothing to compare it to).. but after this weekend Iwill have run a half marathon, too!
Good luck in your race!
Kelsey says
Like so many others, Fall is my favorite season too… evidenced by the fact that I can’t type or write the word without capitalizing the F, while I’m fine just writing spring, winter, or summer. 🙂 I haven’t started decorating yet, though! I have seen some fun Halloween decorations up around my neighborhood and that is inspiring. I have to get on it!
Joey says
I can’t bring myself to get the fall decor out here in Vegas… I might have to though because I’m really missing fall in Indiana!
Also, good luck with your 10K… I ran my first one last weekend as a training run for RNR LV!
KaraHadley says
I’m dying to start making soups and chili and wearing boots! But I’m holding off because I know that I’ll get tired of them long before spring if I start now. But maybe, just maybe, I feel fall in the air.
Katy @ HaveYouHurd says
I decorated for Fall this past Sunday because this past Friday was the technically the first day of Fall. I understand waiting until 1 Oct for you especially with 91 degree weather floating around. I’m waiting unil the 2nd weekend in Oct to do Halloween decorations though 🙂
Laura @ Unchartered 20s says
Ohh i made myself wait until SEPTEMBER 1st to decorate for fall. Oops 🙂
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I made myself wait until September 1st, but I broke out my fall decorations after that! Now, I’m waiting till October 1 to put out the Halloween stuff!
Katherine says
I’m running a half marathon on Sunday and needed to run 3 miles this morning, but it was raining and yucky outside when I woke up. So I’m putting it off until this afternoon. Thanks for giving me some motivation to get it done Julie!
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
I say go for the decorations! I have a fall candle and a cute pumpkin making my kitchen happy right now. 🙂 It’s in the nineties here too…I’m trying to counteract it!
Kelly says
I am SO ready to decorate for fall!!! Break out those autumn decorations!
stevie says
I decorated last friday, which was the first day of autumn. But now I’m waiting till October first to put up the halloween decorations. I’m excited!
Jessica says
No fall decorating for me personally – yet. But it’s everywhere here in PA. We lived in Orange Park, FL before we moved to PA last year so I know exactly what you mean when you say it doesn’t feel / look / sound / act like fall at all right now!
Ruth says
I made your banana pancakes both Sunday morning for my boyfriend and last night for my roommate and me. Both loved them!! SO good 🙂 Pumpkin protein pancakes are up next!
Heather says
Good call on listening to your body. When something is super sore, you gotta rest it!
I haven’t broke out the fall decor yet. It’s still upward of 75 degrees in Massachusetts! (Fun fact: The pumpkin that I had as part of my dorm room decor last year lasted from October to May without rotting!)
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I just bought a fake pumpkin at Target the other day and put it out. I can’t wait to bring out some of our other stuff but am totally doing it this weekend!
You could totally ease into the season by just putting out a few pieces right now, then going wild on Oct 1. 🙂
margo says
At least you don’t live in frozen Minnesota!! Oddly enough, I work for a pool store and if its 91, you still needs lots of chemicals for it to be safe! Good luck!
Michelle says
Can’t wait to get the halloween decorations up! Best thing about fall has to be the pumpkins, only time they are readily available in Ireland. Eek! Pumpkin Muffins, Pancakes and Soup here I come 🙂
chelsea says
I’ve never gotten into the seasonal decorating when I lived with my dad..I live with my mom now and she’s such a decoration person so I just might drag her into the holiday themes =DD
Nathan Miller says
Ah yes, Fall, the GREATEST time of the year…Charlie Browns Great Pumpkin episode, cooler temp, soups, apple pie…anyway, indeed, we had to go the Apple Orchard last weekend for our yearly trip! Picked up 8 Spaghetti Squash, 3 Acorn Squash, 3 Pumpkins, 2 bussel of apples picked, apple cider, pumpkin butter, apple butter, and amish chow chow. Now all the decorations are up…And Playoff baseball is coming!
Krystina (Organically Me) says
Every day I wake up and look outside thinking “Today is the day that it’s going to be crisp and breezy outside!” and then every day I go outside and am kicked in the face with humidity and heat. Oh, Florida…
Ashley says
Fall is my fav time of year so I definitely broke out the fall decor! Once the calendar officially said “Autumn Begins” on September 23rd, I figured it was all fair game. I live in Seattle though, so the weather is definitely starting to cooperate. I plan to post my new fall decor along with a new fall recipe on my blog in a couple of weeks.
Hilary says
Sooo I think you may be doing the same 10K as me this Saturday. If so… I hope I see you and i may be a little starstruck hahah… is that weird? I will be sure to say hi!
Sarah @ The Dirt Road Dreamer says
Fall is my FAVORITE season! But summer finally decided to show up and it’s been pretty warm here in San Diego too. I have the same rule though… no fall decor until October 1. I can’t wait to break it out this weekend!
Mandi L. says
Definitely decorated already!! In my house it has to be up by the first calendar day of Fall. The weather takes too long to change and I’m too antsy to wait.
Ps. I have the exact same placemats! Go Big Lots!
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I told myself I’d wait until the first too. I’m going pumpkin picking on Sunday so I hope to get some nice ones to put out on my porch. I’ve seen so many cool ideas on Pinterest, that I can’t wait!
Hillary says
I don’t decorate for fall, but I do have a hankering for some fall-scented candles. Cinnamon and pumpkin and apple! Oh, my!
Allison says
I ran a 5K this past weekend with my fiance [who isn’t a runner] and he initially kicked my butt and sped off wayyy out in front… But it came back to bite him in the butt at the end because he was exhausted and his knees started to hurt so I caught up to him! It was nice to have him running with me, he pushed me to run much faster than I would have alone!
Lyndsay says
I always decorate for fall at the beginning of September – lots of cute scarecrows and leaves. I usually leave them up until Thanksgiving, when I start decorating for Christmas! The house always looks so much nicer when it’s around the holidays, so I tend to leave them up for cheeriness 🙂
Danica @ It's Progression Not Perfection says
Hey Julie–do you know what I could replace the cottage cheese with in your banana bread protein pancakes recipe?? I would love to make them but avoid dairy whenever possible…
peanutbutterfingers says
i know people have had luck with greek yogurt, but that won’t really work for you. maybe pumpkin + more banana? i’m really not sure! i wish i could be of more help.
Danica @ It's Progression Not Perfection says
I’ll do a little experimenting in the kitchen and give that a try, thanks! : )
Jenn says
That is so strange to me?! Growing up in Aus, we didnt have winter or summer decor for the house.. we did with clothes, but that was about it. You have totally inspired me to purchase some new place mats etc. Thanks for that!
Melissa @ Will Work for Veggies says
I definitely have not pulled out the fall decor yet! It’s almost 90 degrees here too.. I think I’m only going to wait until October 1st though. I’m antsy too! 🙂
Amber K says
91? While I certainly don’t wish for that, I wouldn’t mind it being a little warmer here. It’s definitely Fall!
Julie says
those pancakes look divine…now I’m hungry for breakfast food!! 🙂
Brittany says
I made the same plan to decorate october 1! I have fall placemats out too but that’s it. haha it’s soon1 🙂
Ellie@fitforthesoul says

eliza@zestyappetite says
That coffee sounds so awesome!!!!! I want it right now and maybe a side of those amazing pancakes. Ahh good job getting out there and running julie.

our living room was looking a little bare in between seasons, so I decorated for Halloween in early September 😡
Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats says
I do have a bit of Fall decor around! I bought some adorable mini pumpkins and gourds at the Farmer’s Market and my mom surprised me with a package with a cute little pumpkin decoration and a couple of Fall colored placemats!
Jane says
Never too early to decorate!!!!!!
Katie May says
I asked my husband if I could put up the Christmas decorations after labor day…he said I had to wait AT LEAST until after Halloween. Rude. 😉
Liz says
I’ve got my fall decorations up! We’ve had some pumpkin stuff & a jack-o-lantern light pole up for a little while now. I also have been wearing my Halloween scrubs shirts to work 🙂
Jenika says
Great pancake recipe. I tried it this morning. Quick and easy! The nutriotional profile ain’t too shady either: 19.2g of protein and 5.3g of fibre. Nice! Thanks for sharing it!
