Good morning!
I love that ridiculous face.
Workout
I awoke this morning with hamstrings that were still pretty sore from Monday’s leg workout.
I initially planned to workout legs today, but that just wasn’t happening. I decided to swap today’s workout with tomorrow’s planned run and ran five miles instead.
I was actually quite happy with this plan because I’m running in a 10k on Saturday and taking two days off from running before the race will help me feel fresh on race day. (The last 10k I participated in was more than a year and a half ago – back in March 2010! I’m excited to do another one because 10ks are my favorite race distance.)
I kicked up the pace of my morning run a bit, but incorporated a tiny bit of walking in the mix as well, so my run looked like this:
Distance | Speed |
0 – 2 miles | 6.5 |
2 – 2.1 miles | 4.0 |
2.1 – 3 miles | 6.5 |
3 – 3.1 miles | 4.0 |
3.1 – 3.5 miles | 6.5 |
3.5 – 4 miles | 6.8 |
4 – 4.1 miles | 4.0 |
4.1 – 4.5 miles | 6.8 |
4.5 – 4.8 miles | 7.0 |
4.8 – 5.0 miles | 6.8 |
Increasing my speed at the end of the run felt great. Even though Ryan is wonderful about running my pace during our long runs as we train for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon, I have a feeling he’d ideally like to go faster, so any time I see progress in my speed, I’m a happy camper.
Breakfast
Breakfast today was delicious and comforting.
Gotta love pancakes on a week day!
I made a batch of banana bread protein pancakes, topped them with nutmeg, banana slices and syrup and dug in.
Please make these if you haven’t already! They even got parental approval from Alyssa’s parents last week. That’s big time, folks.
Breakfast was served with a side of Godiva pumpkin pie spice coffee that made me wish I could open my windows, let in the cool fall breeze and watch colorful leaves blow by (because leaves frequently blow past your windows in the fall, you know).
After checking weather.com and seeing that today’s forecast calls for a high of 91 degrees, my dreams were squashed pretty quickly. And then I remembered that the owners of our house scheduled the pool guy to come by today to turn our swamp of a pool into a nice swimming environment again for all the hot days we have left and my fall wishes were really squashed. (Seriously, you should see our pool right now. It’s disgusting and likely crawling with amoebas.)
Speaking of fall, I told myself I must wait until October 1 to break out the fall décor. Have you guys decorated yet? I have some fall-themed placemats on our new table in our living room that I bought two weeks ago ($1.50 at Big Lots, baby!), but other than that, everything is boxed up until October. I’m getting antsy!
Meg says
I just tweeted lastnight about Halloween and decor haha! I think it’s definitely time to bust out the fall shenanigans 😀
My lower half feels like it wants to detach itself from my body this morning from my workout yesterday, I feel ya!
Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission says
No fall decor yet — but I can’t wait to break out the mini pumpkins and the themed place settings 😀 We have Thanksgiving coming up next week in Canada, so I have to start decorating soon!
Khushboo says
Woo great going on the run! I have a 6-miler planned for tomorrow morning and my day off today has gotten me PUMPED!
Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat says
I have a few fall-y decorations up, and the other day I bought some fall-y food props (LOL! you know you’re a food blogger when!) that are featured in some of the soup pics on my blog today. Still though, I’ll appreciate every bit of warm weather while it’s still here! Have a great day Julie!
alyssa - fashion fitness foodie says
I’ve already fully decorated for fall! Pinterest got to me and I just couldnt help it.
laurel anderson says
I’ve already put my halloween decor out…I’ve restrained myself from putting up the spider webs, but that will be happening this weekend 🙂
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
I need to get over my college budget and buy some fall decor! Maybe I’ll hit up Big Lots– a house isn’t a home without a themed placemat or two 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
all of my fall decorations are so cheap. check big lots, bealls outlet and joann’s for cheap but cute decor.
Traci says
I have gotten into fall mode 🙂 We put up some decorations over the past few weekends. I am in New Jersey though, and the leaves are starting to change. I’m looking out the window at work right now to a sea of yellow leaves. The temps are still all over the place (hello 90 yesterday, 60 today?!), but I’m pretending it’s full-on fall.
Jessica @ Sushi and Sit-Ups says
I get so antsy for fall too! I get into the fall mood right after Labor Day!
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Our fall decorations go up right when September hits haha 🙂
Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) says
I decorated in September… a bit early, but I knew my hands would be full come October 🙂
It’s warm here in NC again today, but this weekend has highs of 73- wahoo!!
Taylor @ Crumbs Don't Count says
I’m not gonna lie…I already have up my Halloween flag. And I am already so excited to see Christmas decorations out in stores…I love Christmas and I am one of those people that starts listening to Christmas music in Oct/Nov…and sometimes July!
Jenny says
I cannot imagine not having crisp mornings in the fall!! Move to the northeast gf 😉
Krista says
I’ve done my first round of decorating for fall! I live in DC so it’s a bit cooler here. I do 3 rounds- fall, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving! Obviously I use a lot of the same Fall stuff throughout, but I was so excited! I broke it out the first day it was 60 degrees! Then it went back up to 80s, but I’m still excited for my fall decorations!
Ali @ Ali Runs says
My parents’ house is totally decorated already! But I guess up North it’s easier to decorate earlier because the leaves are already orange and red. 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I’ve been using pumpkin plates, and I love it! Hello Fall!
Gotta try those pancakes this weekend, thanks 🙂
Amanda says
My favorite fall decoration are those baby pumpkins you can get at the grocery store. I buy tons of them and put them all over the house! They are so cute. When I have guests over during the month of October, they are always shocked to see baby pumpkins in the bathrooms! 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
that’s such a cute idea! i never thought to put them in the bathrooms.
Kelsey says
I looooove baby pumpkins and gourds too! My mom always decorating with those during Fall when I was a child. I especially love the tiny white pumpkins and they funky gourds with blotches of color and imperfections. 🙂
Melissa says
I’m moving into a new condo this weekend & I can’t wait to decorate! I already have my fall-scented candles waiting in the wings!!! Eeeee! 🙂
Steph @ A Hungry Bookworm says
You have more self control than I do, my fall decor went up about a month ago!
p.s. those pancakes look amazing.
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
I made your pancake recipe! Although I was an idiot and used a kitchen aid instead of a blender causing them to come out thick and very oat-y. I was going to make the pumpkin ones last weekend before Josh and I’s trip but we wanted to get on the road, so I’ll likely be making them this weekend before we head to the Poconos.
I’m jealous you can still swim in a pool! As much as I love fall I’d love some more summer time!
peanutbutterfingers says
you can also use a food processor if you have one!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Oh good to know that works too! Josh has both, he loves to cook. When I was remarking that I think I did something wrong because the recipe didn’t look like the pictures he asked to look at the recipe and pointed out my mistake. My boyfriend is a better cook than I am! ;p It still turned out great though and he loved it because you could still taste the cottage cheese and its one of his favorite things. He actually put more on top of the pancakes!
Ali says
I live in Phoenix, so I totally get you on the wanting fall to get here ASAP! I can’t wait for the cooler temps and fall decor. We don’t have trees here which really squashes my dreams for fall foilage.
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
I still need to make those pancakes! They look so good.
I put my Fall decor up a few weeks ago already! It was starting to feel like Fall here in Utah at that point, so I thought it was a pretty good excuse. 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
When we lived in FL I remember going crazy this time of year wishing for the seasons to change and of course they wouldn’t. One day we got a Frontgate catalogue in the mail and it had all fall decor and winter stuff in it and I literally starting CRYING b/c I missed the seasons so much. So, I hear ya. Keep the A/C on, light a fall candle and pretend 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
my family and i all cried the first christmas we lived in florida after moving from illinois. of course there were a lot of things behind our emotions, but not having snow on the ground or even having to wear a coat took a lot of getting used to.
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
It’s really warm here too! I think Ireland finally got its summer 😉
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
My brother just recently asked if I decorate for the seasonal holidays…. alas, seeing as how my apartment is the size of my parents’ basement storage area, I have nowhere to keep it all year round… So, if I wanted to decorate, I’d have to do it for every holiday, all year round. Christmas bathroom, St. Patrick’s day…oven? Valentine’s day closet!
Hilliary @ Happily Ever Healthy says
It has been really cold in Minnesota, but we are hitting a warm streak this week! I cannot wait to decorate for halloween, we usually do not decorate till october!
Colleen @ Jimmy Choos on the Treadmill says
My mom loves fall so she already got a head start on the decorating!!
Lindsey says
I decorated for fall September 1st 🙂 It looks like fall but doesn’t feel like it yet, we have had record highs this past week!
Jodi says
I SO look forward to the day when I can do 5 miles on the treadmill with that little rest time. Just not there yet…
I have to try the pancakes already; they’re callin’ mah name!
peanutbutterfingers says
you’ll definitely get there! it took me a LONG time to build up to five miles.
Nathan Miller says
Indeed! Keep your head up and push yourself each run, even if its for 2 or 3 extra minutes or even a few extra steps! Remember if/any exercise you choose to do is more than 98% of people even THINK about doing that day!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
i bought some pumpkins and hard winter squash at whole foods yesterday to decorate our table with, but so far that’s it! i can’t believe it’s almost halloween. my favorite spot for seasonal decorations is home goods, though — super cute, CHEAP finds.
Natalie says
awww… sadie looks so cute and sleepy.
peanutbutterfingers says
i thought the same thing 🙂
Liz @ Tip Top Shape says
My apartment is pretty un-fall-ified. I’m too cheap to buy decorations–waiting until I go home and will then filch a bunch from the parents!
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I’m a firm believer in not decorating prematurely. I hate that stores have up their Christmas stuff already. I think the holidays are more special if you only have your decorations up for a couple weeks. Also the high temperatures just don’t make me think fall. I’m crossing my fingers we don’t hit 100 today
Cait's Plate says
Why is it that pancakes on a weekday feel so darn special? This move we’re doing has caused my breakfast variety to go downhill quick. I can’t wait for it to be done and over with so I can have things like waffles and pancakes again!
Kati Mora, MS, RD, Kellogg's FiberPlus(R) Wellness Advocate says
I LOVE fall – definitely my favorite season! And what’s better than having some pancakes or waffles on a brisk fall day? I like to top my Kellogg’s Eggo FiberPlus(R) Buttermilk pancakes with bananas and a little a cinammon too.
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
Good Lord- 91 degrees?! Reminds me of my hometown, Vegas.. Come on over to D.C. though- it’s definitely fall here!
My mama just gave me a delicious smelling fall candle- it’s pumpkin and caramel!
peanutbutterfingers says
i REALLY want to visit D.C.!
Emily says
i carved a pumpkin last weekend. its never too early for fall decor 🙂
gina says
a) i tried these pancakes and they ROCKED. i was honestly a little unsure at first because i had to use yogurt instead of cottage cheese – i don’t even think they have cottage cheese in france – and because the batter looked suuuuper thick in the blender. but in the end, total success!
b) i am SO jealous about the decorating – halloween is my faaaavorite holiday and they also don’t have that in france 🙁 i’m 0 – 2 right now!
peanutbutterfingers says
so glad to know yogurt works well in them, too!
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
Your doggie is RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE. That face is just priceless!!
And the pancakes are pretty great-looking also! I will definitely be trying them out this weekend (or maybe for dinner)!
Sarah Elizabeth says
We’ve decorated up North! It’s already peak foliage up here in Vermont. Go for it and decorate already, girl!
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
It looks like a fall threw up all over my house already. I blame in on having a 3 year old. Of course, it’s probably all me. I won’t tell if you won’t.
peanutbutterfingers says
too cute! i bet your house is extra festive in december!
Theresa says
i havent decorated as of yet either, but mostly because the weather has been sooo weird that it doesnt even feel like fall yet! 🙁
i definitely need to make myself some of those pancakes, they look like a great sunday breakfast to me! (only bc i have no time to make such breakfasts during the weekdays, haha)
Bethany @ More Fruit Please says
I just decorated for Fall this weekend. I bought a bunch of fake pumpkins and decorated them with lace, glitter, and flowers – all ideas off of Pinterest, of course!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I got some super cheap stuff from Michaels for fall decorations! I’m talkin’ $0.67 and $1.50 cheap.
and that’s right… Gin and Bob loved the ‘cakes. 😉 you smartypants (and you’re right… they fill you up all. day. long).
peanutbutterfingers says
hug your parents for me, please! 😀
Liz @ Something To Chew On says
Those pancakes look AMAZING! I have a great day Julie!!!
Corrie Anne says
Oh yeah. Bust out the fall decorations. It’s a limited time so you must maximize the celebrating!!
Kelsey says
haha, I agree… I’m one of those people who puts up Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving. You’ve only got a month so you’ve really got to take advantage of it! 🙂 I need to have that same inspiration when it comes to Fall holiday decorations!!!
Rachel @ The Avid Appetite says
I am slowly starting with the fall decor. I picked up a little bag of fresh mini pumpkins and gourds last week at the store for my fall centerpiece. I’m also learning to use a sewing machine this weekend and making a fall table runner!
Hope says
I love decorating for fall! I haven’t started yet. I love buying the little baby pumpkins. I usually put them all over the house. 🙂 The weather is supposed to be fall-like this weekend. I’m totally looking forward to it.
Lindsay says
I literally want to kiss your dog all over her face! Look at that nose~ My parents have a golden Chesapeake Bay Retriever that looks similar in the face and I’m so in love with her!
Great job on the running. You’ll do great! 🙂

Olivia @ PeanutButterNerd says
I used to make banana pancakes all the time (even when I wasn’t focused on eating healthy)! They are super good and have me quite tempted!
