It’s amazing how fabulous sleeping in until 6:15 a.m. can feel when your body is used to waking up at 4:20 a.m. What a world of difference!
Since I didn’t have to work the early shift this morning, I slept a little longer than usual and woke up feeling like new.
After brushing my teeth and letting Sadie out, I walked into the kitchen to make breakfast.
On the menu for today was a delicious batch of scrambled eggs prepared with turkey bacon, spinach and mozzarella cheese.
Warms the soul!
With breakfast in my belly, I headed out the door to a local coffee shop to work on a freelance project this morning. Guess who walked in to grab a cup of coffee while I was working away? The police officer who looks like James Marsden who pulled me over a year or so ago. Awesome.
I was able to get a solid 90 minutes of work done at the coffee shop before I started working on this blog post, which felt great. Hooray for a productive morning!
I’ll be packing up soon to head off to the gym for a morning workout before I have to attend a brief meeting.

Isn’t it kinda cool how quickly our bodies adjust to new schedules? I have never been one to sleep tell noon but I used to sleep tell 9 with no problem and now I am wide awake by 6:30 without an alarm.
Lisa says
It’s funny how our bodies adapt to new schedules, but it totally feels a little more satisfying when you can sleep in just an extra bit.
I remember working early and on the weekends even an extra hour makes a huge difference in my days.
Glad you got a productive morning in while you had your morning free, that always feels amazing.
Charlotte @ Commitness to Fitness says
Oh i know what you mean- granted I get up at 5:30 to workout, not 4-something, but on my off day sleeping til 6:35 feels like heaven. actually the thing is, i tend to wake up at 5:30 automatically now anyways, but staying in bed til 6:35 is very nice 🙂
Annie says
Ok weird question but, you brush your teeth “before” breakfast? I’m french so maybe it’s common in american but sounds weird to me lol
Angela @ Health's Angel says
Haha! Thought the exact same thing when I read this post. I’m American and I always brush my teeth AFTER breakfast. It’s probably just personal preference. 🙂
Jan @ Sprouts n Squats says
I couldn’t imagine getting up at 4.15am but can understand once you get used to a wake up time how nice it is to sleep past it.
Sounds like you had a very productive morning already 🙂
Nicole says
For me, 8 hours of sleep doesn’t feel the same when waking up at 5am versus 8am 😉 my favorite thing is when my body wakes up a minute before I hear the dreaded alarm clock ring!
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
How do you breakfasts always look SO good?? I think that you are the queen of breakfast! 😉
Bailey Rodgers says
That’s crazy to me, to you sleeping until 6:15 feels late! I can barely drag myself out of bed at 7:45 most mornings!
Amanda @ .running with spoons. says
I’m a morning person and usually have no trouble getting myself out of bed at around 5 or 5:30, but I definitely notice a huge difference in my mood and overall energy levels when I get a good sleep vs when I’m tossing and turning or going to bed too late… which is why sometimes only a nap will help 🙂
carrie (carrie.on.) says
dear god! can’t say i’d be all too upset if a james marsden look a like pulled me over. haha.
Beth Sheridan says
I have NEVER been a morning person, however, having a baby can change that a little bit for you. I was always one who could sleep until 10am without even moving, but now, even if my Rylnn isn’t awake yet, I will be awake and not able to go back to sleep at 7am. Craziness…
Jamie @ Sometimes Healthy Living Blog says
haha that sounds like the type of police officer I’d want to pull me over 🙂 Your morning egg scrambles are inspiring me to switch up my breakfast!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I love mornings like that! Which don’t happen too often around here. And its crazy to know that certain police are around us still, because back in high school I had a terrible tummy ache and drove past a stop sign near high school and got a ticket! Guesss what. That same officer still gives the same ticket to students and people I know in that same area. 0_0 ha!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
Hehe just read about your officer. Cute story! 😛
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
It’s amazing what a couple extra hours of sleep can do, eh? I feel ya on that one! Yesterday I was up at 4 AM with the babe and for whatever reason, I couldn’t get back to sleep after he went back to sleep. This morning I woke up at 7 AM (his dad took care of the early morning feeding), and I feel like a new woman!
Megan says
I haven’t been eating eggs lately and all your scrambles have been looking delicious so I made a big egg bake this week! So good!
Mallory @ My Quarter Life [Crisis] says
James Marsden = dreamy
Meghan @ After the Ivy League says
Waking up in the 4am hour must be so rough! There’s no way I can go to bed any earlier than 10ish so I would end up losing a good amount of sleep. I can’t fall asleep when it’s still light out!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
It’s amazing what a little extra sleep can do for you in the a.m. I need to make that egg scramble. Looks so good!
Chelsea says
Man, sometimes nothing feels better than being able to go to bed WITHOUT setting the alarm! It doesn’t even matter that I more often than not end up getting up almost as early as I do with my alarm, but the very act of being able to NOT set my alarm because it doesn’t *really* matter is just…very relaxing. Glad you were able to get so much done today, there are few things as satisfying as a truly productive day 🙂
Julie @ Sweetly Balanced says
I love productive mornings!! Especially when you are able to just be super focused and crank out everything before 10am! thats the best feeling! 🙂
Sarah @ Yogi in Action says
I find sometimes it’s the difference between waking up on your own or with an alarm clock. If I wake up at 6:30 because I naturally woke up, I feel way more energized than when my alarm wakes me up. Maybe it’s just my own mentality though?
Lauren says
You know what warms the soul? The laugh of your child. Traveling the world. Volunteering. You know what doesn’t warm the soul? Fake bacon.
Brianne says
HAHA! I have to agree… when i read that I thought, “really? bacon and eggs evokes that much emotion?”
Lauren says
You mean fake bacon.
Miranda @ Miranda Runs says
I love productive mornings! Too bad I haven’t had any this week 😉 Mon-Wed I had a 3.5 hour late start at my school so I basically just did nothing all morning until I had to leave. Productivity at its worst! Haha!
Maureen says
I can get 8 hours of sleep, but getting up at 5am is sooooo much harder than getting up at 7am. lol I do not like rising before the sun!
Sara @ sarasmiles says
Wait a tick…I literally think James Marsden is the best looking man EVER. I just re-read your post about it…If you ever see him again seriously hook me up. I would totally move to Florida (and yes I’m single)
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I don’t often like to sleep in too much because I feel like I lose my day but I was so tired this weekend from a long week at work that I slept until 7:30 on Sunday (that IS sleeping in for me)! It was amazing and I felt refreshed and ready to tackle the day!
Lauren says
Happy National Peanut Butter Cookie Day!! 🙂
Julie @ RDelicious Kitchen says
I’ve been waking up around 5 every morning .. I slept in the other day til 8 .. I felt like I slept in forever .. but I still had a full morning which was great
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I’m headed to Starbucks now, hopefully I’ll be plenty productive as well! And I can’t wait for tomorrow morning, I normally get up at 4:50 but I don’t have morning class! Haha let’s see how late I actually sleep though… I’m guessing 6.
Ashley says
Oh my gosh after waking up super early a few days in a row even an extra hour makes me feel like a new person!

HAHA! I know who that deputy is! The lookalike is a friend of my fiance’s – the two work together!!! Super nicce guy – hope you got out of a ticket! 🙂

If I saw a cop that looked like James Mardsen I think I would run outside and do something semi-illegal so he would have to come and speak with me. Of course, I don’t want to do anything to get myself into real trouble.
Ashley @ Sweat for Sweets says
I love that 6:15 am is a sleep-in for you. It’s like pulling teeth to even get me up for 6:30! Also, that’s hilarious about that cop walking into the coffee shop. I just re-read that post and had a few laugh out loud moments 🙂
Jennifer says
So much gets done if you wake up early. I love it!!!
Iris says
Thank you for linking to the PopSugar article on sugars! I’ve been reading a lot about them and thinking about how sugar plays a role in my eating/nutrition, so it was great to see more information on it. 🙂
Iris @ Anatomy & Intuition
P.S. Why don’t the cops who pull me over look like James Marsden…?!?!
Hope @ With A Side Of Hope says
I can totally agree about sleeping in! I get up at 5am during the week. So if I can even sleep until 7 or 8 on the weekends, it’s amazing. It may not be that late but those extra few hours really help. 🙂
dalia says
I wake up at 3:30 am for my job….yes, you read that right. 3:30 am. It is BRUTAL. Luckily, I won’t have to do it anymore after next Friday! 🙂 But waking up that early makes getting up other days easy peasy. Amazing to me how 6 am, or even 5:30 am used to seem like a nightmare, and now I get excited when I can wake up anytime after 5 am. When i am able to wake up at a ‘normal’ time every day my body is going to be so thrown off!
Danielle says
Do you work out every single day now?
Bill H. says
I feel like it is easier to adjust to waking up later, but if you want to adjust to getting up earlier it’s harder and takes longer to adjust.
