We’ve assembled furniture together before and say that the task tests a couples’ relationship like no other (kind of like moving), but fortunately yesterday there were no quarrels or pieces of furniture thrown out the window in frustration.
Success!
Ryan and I each tackled two pieces of furniture on our own and would just ask the other person for help when necessary. Having total control of our own “project” made the process fairly painless.
I say that, but I didn’t have the furniture with drawers. Thank you to Ryan for assembling the hard stuff.
My stuff wasn’t a walk in the park though, I swear.
Just check out my brand spankin’ new bookcase that I assembled all by myself!
It’s big and cumbersome but putting it together only took two hours. (And no, it’s not crooked. Not sure why it looks that way in the picture.)
Guest Bathroom
I believe I promised you guys some pictures of our fully decorated guest bathroom yesterday!
Our bathroom was decorated around these towels I bought using a gift card to Anthropologie yesterday.
I’ve had my eye on these towels for more than a year. (I wanted to register for them for our wedding, but Anthropologie doesn’t have a registry. Bust!)
After finally purchasing the towels yesterday, our bathroom came together fairly easily since I have an affinity for yellow décor and already had a lot of stuff that seemed to work well in the bathroom.
I bought the “shabby chic” shower curtain at Target earlier this week and love the vintage feel!
If I could I would make every single room in our house have a yellow theme. I love the bright sunshiny look of the color.
Breakfast
I’m not sure why I was up at 7 a.m. when Ryan and I didn’t get to sleep until after 2 a.m., but I’m going to blame my body’s desire for a yummy breakfast for the reason I awoke so dang early.
Breakfast included a toasted sweet wheat bagel, topped with melted sharp cheddar cheese, a fried egg and raspberry jelly.
Great pre-walk fuel for a nice 30-minute morning walk with Ryan and Sadie.
Today is going to be spent working on decorating our house. I need some frames, storage items and pretty candles to complete the look of my home office. Hopefully I’ll have it decorated and ready to show you guys soon!
Oh and my sister is stopping by today because she was nearby in Gainesville with some friends for the UF game last night. Can’t wait to see her!
It looks awesome. You have such an eye for decor! I didn’t even know Anthropologie sold towels– I have a mug from them that I absolutely love!
Your bathroom is so cute! The yellow color adds such a cheery feel to it! I can’t wait to see your office–I’m sure it will be awesome!
i can’t wait to show you guys. i’m kind of obsessed with it already and it’s only half way done.
I love seeing people’s houses and decorating styles. I can’t wait to see the rest of your house!
Congratulations on still having a marriage after all of that! 😉 I’m impressed that you guys got all that stuff built. I love the yellow guest bathroom. The brightness really makes it a great space!
Looks great! Love the yellow myself as well 🙂 We are moving/decorating our places at the same time…I’m going to do some more shopping today to make my place feel more homey. It feels so good once your place feels like comfortable and YOURS! Good luck, can’t wait to see more pics 🙂
The yellow bathroom defo mote than makes up for the blue walls: love the shade and it really brightens up the bathroom!
Love your bathroom…I’m a big yellow fan as well!
I must give you major props, Julie. I’ve tried to assemble IKEA stuff before and it has turned into one giant catastrophe haha
Maybe you should consider going into carpentry 😉
Your bathroom is adorable!! I love the cheerful yellow decor and how your lotion and soap even matches! 🙂 The towels and shabby chic shower curtain fit perfectly!
looks awesome! anthropologie does have a registry by the way, i wish i had known before too!
Those towels are awesome and your bathroom is SO pretty 😀 I’m not one for yellow (I like earthy colors) but it does look quite cheery. I can’t wait to see the rest of your house (and office) come together.
Loveeee the Target Shabby Chic line! I decorated my college apartment bathroom/bedroom with all of their stuff and it is so pretty 🙂
I have those Athropologie towels in blue. Love them in yellow, too!
i wanted to buy them in every color! i liked the beige ones, too.
I love the bathroom done in yellow! Yellow is such a cherry, welcoming color 🙂
Ummm, cheery, not cherry!
Way to go girl! Yellow is such a happy color :)!
You’ve got a very nice bathroom!
I know assembling ikea stuff can become a little annoying and long! I remember when I moved into my apartment, all those furniture I had to assemble, it seemed like everything needed a screw driver!
You’re such a good decorator! Wanna come help me??? 2 years later and I’m still finalizing rooms!
Loving those towels!
Yellow is a great color, especially to wake you up in the morning. Anthro doesn’t have a wedding registry? Weird.
I know that this makes me about as weird as you can get, but…. I love putting together Ikea furniture. It’s like a great big puzzle!
Oooh I love the yellow! It’s so bright and cheery 🙂 I would love to be a guest in your house and wake up to that every morning!
good job on the bookcase. that is impressive.
OK, I definitely need to try adding jam to my egg sandwiches. I just can’t resist anymore! 🙂
Have a great day!
Great job on the bathroom decor Julie! I’ve got a yellow kitchen and it’s amazing how much the colour can brighten up your mood on a rainy day. I agree that IKEA furniture assembly can be relationship testing! I had to assemble all of the IKEA furniture in my house with my mum and some relatives, and I thought that a fight might break out over all of my shelving!
So pretty! I love yellow 🙂 good work on the bookshelf Bob Villa 🙂
How FUN! I bet decorating a new house is such a blast! I can’t wait to do it myself!
I love the yellow, p.s.!
the bathroom looks great! if you’re looking for candles-bath & body works has their big 3 wick ones on sale 2 for $20 🙂
This is making me want to remodel my bathroom! Making bathrooms this pretty makes you never want to get out!
Putting furniture together with a significant other is no joke. Glad you guys survived ; )
Can you please come decorate my house? We have lived here 8 months and your house is already more “homie” than ours! HELP!!!
lovin the colors of the bathroom!! so glad you and ryan are all almost moved in and ready to roll! 🙂 there is something so amaizng about knowing YOU put together a piece of furniture, right?!
I love the yellow theme! So bright and cheery!
I love the yellow!! We moved into our first home this winter and that definitely tests a marriage, but just wait til you go through the mortgage process!! Ay yay yay. We made it though 🙂
Happy Sunday!!
Love the bookshelf and the yellow bathroom. It’s true about yellow rooms. My kitchen is yellow and I love it because it always makes me smile. Plus, other bold colors pop against it, adding a lot of contrast. Can’t wait to see the rest of the place!
I already tweeted you that I love the bathroom, but I have to say good job on the shel building skills ; )
Can’t wait to see your office!!
I like the towels! They have a very vintage appeal.
I had some similar in college. Mine were real cheapo though, I got them at Big Lots.
Love the towels! Usually I’m not yellows biggest fan, but they look brilliant in your bathroom. So happy and sunny!
I was kinda afraid you were going to diss yellow rooms (my kitchen is yellow). I LOVE it 🙂
I live in Gainesville, so it’s so fun to see it mentioned! 🙂 Love your blog! (And Anthropologie! Woo hoo!)
It looks awesome. I want to do my kitchen in yellow. Just curious, what is a sweet wheat bagel? I’ve only ever seen regular ol’ wheat ones.
it’s just the flavor of the bagel! 🙂 like honey oat… but sweet wheat!
I love the bookcase! I really need one.
Oh gosh I die every time I go into Anthropologie! Their home stuff is so flipping cute!
I love that they have crystal and antique-looking door knobs! I’ve thought about changing every single one in my place!
I absolutely love those towels! Anthropologie always has the best stuff! Great job on the guest bathroom!
Love the sunny guest bathroom! Looking forward to seeing more pics of the new place.
We ran all around yesterday picking up craigslist finds and then closing out Ikea. That place can really take the steam out of you! We are spending today putting together our bedroom and office. Exhausting but fun and so gratifying when it’s all done and put together.
I love yellow! I painted my bedroom yellow last year, and it looks so cheery. It’s impossible to ever feel sad in a yellow room. 🙂
Your bathroom is beautiful! I love the yellow. Definitely very cheery!! And the bookcase looks awesome, I love the candles on it!
Love the yellow bathroom & Anthro towels. <3 !!! Also the Sadie photo frame (I assume) behind the toilet 🙂
Thanks! And yes, that is Sadie. 🙂
I love Anthropologie, but only buy stuff when I get a gift card. I love walking around in the store though.
Whoo Hoo on getting ikea items built with hubby and no blowouts, or disasters! My hubby seems to think that you don’t need directions. Now I lead the build and just direct where I need help. It seems to work better that way 🙂
I love those towels… and the mugs!! I am going to have to look and see if there is an anthropology in Canada!
You are a brave girl! I stayed far away when my boyfriend was assembling his ikea office furniture! I was not expecting to be a fan of your bathroom because I normally don’t like yellow… But it turned out beautifully! My favorite part was the flowers by the sink
